Realization of Truth (Part 4 Life After Death)
Realization of Truth
Part 4 - Life After Death
What is Death? What happens after death? Simply put, death is the opposite of life. Many, however, believe that immediately after people die, they continue living in another form. They refuse to believe that a human being could stop living in any form.
If there were no death, people who choose to commit evil acts would do so indefinitely. People who choose to do right would have to suffer indefinitely from the evil acts of others. But we know that people die. Do they die and come back in another form of life? If they did, they would not be dead. Death is the end of life. After that, do people ever come back to begin new lives? If they do come back, then why do they die in the first place?
What happens at the moment of death? The body and mind cease to function, and the spirit of life leaves the body. The confusion about death is the result of a belief that human beings are immortal because they have an eternal soul or spirit. There are many beliefs about the soul and the spirit and what happens to them after death.
One popular belief is that a dead person's disembodied spirit or ghost leaves his or her body and continues to live. Another belief is that a dead person's soul is reincarnated or reborn into another body. Still another is that a dead person's soul or spirit goes to Heaven, if that person's sins are forgiven; or to Hell, if that person's sins are not forgiven.
Again, death is the opposite of life. If you die, but continue living as a ghost, or by being reincarnated into another body, or as a spirit or soul in Heaven or Hell, then you have not actually died. The truth is that each of us is born with three elements including the body, the mind, and the spirit. All these together form a living soul.
The spirit is the breath of life that comes from God; we receive it at birth. When someone dies, his or her spirit or breath of life returns to God. The spirit is not a person, but it gives life to a person.
If you believe that people die and continue living in another form, then you must believe that they are immortal. However, because people are imperfect, they cannot live never-ending lives. Even if they could, then what would be the consequence for those who commit evil acts? Most people believe that each person will always live in some form; but if that were true, the problem of evil would always exist. The truth is that people are not immortal, and when they die, only God can bring them back to life.
Why do many believe we are immortal? Long ago, before God created human beings, He created angels. At one time, all the angels were perfect and they were loyal to God. However, Satan, who was one of the angels, became envious of God. He decided to rebel against God and convinced some of the others to join him. God then banished them from Heaven, and now these fallen angels are demons led by Satan.
Since the time human beings were created, they have been deceived by Satan and his demons in many ways. One of these deceptions is that we don't really die. The purpose of this deception is to have us believe that we have eternal life. The truth is that we need God's forgiveness for our sins if we want to have eternal life.
How have we been deceived regarding life after death? Many believe that a person who dies with unresolved issues comes back as a ghost to try to resolve those issues. After that, he or she would be at peace and be able to "cross over" to the other side, wherever that is. Many believe that each of us continually lives and dies; and that after each death, he or she is reborn or reincarnated into another body. This would happen until a person reaches a state of enlightenment. At that point, that person would no longer die.
Still others believe that the soul of a person who dies is immediately judged by the Lord, and goes to Heaven or Hell. They believe that if the Lord judges you favorably, your soul goes to Heaven and lives in peaceful bliss for eternity. They believe that if the Lord judges you unfavorably, your soul goes to Hell and suffers in fire for eternity. Yes, Satan would even have us believe that someone could spend eternity suffering in fire.
The truth, however, is that human beings are not born with immortality. Without God's forgiveness, we cannot have eternal life anywhere, including Hell. In fact, our punishment would be eternal death. Therefore, the ultimate destiny of each of us is either eternal death or eternal life.
What happens in the hereafter? Can we live again or could death be absolute, meaning death without the possibility of a future life. What happens to people depends on whether or not God has forgiven their sins. Actually, those who die remain lifeless until they are resurrected.
Someday there will be a resurrection to eternal life for those whose sins God has forgiven. The curse of evil will be removed from them; they will be perfect, and not subject to death anymore. They will live eternally in a perfect world.
For those whose sins God has not forgiven, there will be a resurrection and judgment on Judgment Day. And because they are not forgiven for their sins, they will suffer in the Lake of Fire and be destroyed. This will be an absolute death. Human beings currently have a choice between eternal death and eternal life, but someday they will either be dead or alive for eternity.
In Summary, death is the opposite of life. However, many believe that, after death, people continue living in another form. Has anyone ever died and come back in another form? After people die, do they ever come back to begin new lives?
What happens at the moment of death? The body and mind cease to function, and the spirit leaves the body. But many believe that the spirit or soul is immortal, and after a person dies, his or her spirit continues to live as a ghost. Others believe that the spirit is reincarnated into another body, and others believe that the soul goes to live in Heaven or Hell. If people die and continue living in another form, they don't actually die.

We are imperfect and cannot live never-ending lives. If we could, what would be the consequence for those who commit evil acts? Many believe that people are immortal, and will always live in some form; but if we did, the problem of evil would always exist. We are not immortal and, after we die, only God can bring us back to life.
Why do many believe we are immortal? Before God created humans, He created angels. Angels were perfect and loyal to God. Some of the angels, including Satan, became envious of God and rebelled against His authority. God then banished them from Heaven. Now these angels, led by Satan, are demons who deceive human beings. They deceive many to believe they don't really die because they have eternal life. The truth is we need God's forgiveness for our sins in order to have eternal life.
Many are deceived about the hereafter. Some believe that, after death, many come back as ghosts and try to "cross over" to the other side. Some believe that we live and die, and after each death we are reincarnated into another body. We do this until we reach enlightenment; then we no longer die.
Others believe that when you die your soul is judged by the Lord and goes to Heaven or Hell. If you are judged favorably, your soul goes to Heaven and lives eternally in peaceful bliss. If you are judged unfavorably, you soul goes to Hell and suffers eternally in fire. But we are not born with immortality. Without God's forgiveness, we cannot have eternal life, only eternal death. Therefore, our destiny is either eternal death or eternal life.
Can we live in the hereafter or do we die without the possibility of a future life? Those who die remain lifeless until they are resurrected. Someday there will be a resurrection for those whose sins God has forgiven. Then they will be perfect and never be subject to death again. They will live eternally in a perfect world.
There will be a second resurrection for those whose sins God has not forgiven. They will be judged on Judgment Day, and then suffer in the Lake of Fire and be destroyed. This will be an absolute death without the possibility of a future life.
For now, people have a choice between eternal death or eternal life, but someday they will either be dead or alive for eternity.
From the Bible:
"Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in Hell."
(Matthew, Chapter 10, Verse 28)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John, Chapter 3, Verse 16)
