Facing The Demons

Walking among Demons

We might not be aware of their presence but the fact is that we walk among demons everyday without recognizing them. They just appear like normal people but are primarily responsible for turning our lives into chaos. What they love to do is to test our patience, throw challenges at us, hurt us like hell, turn our loved ones against us and often demean and ridicule us making us feel worthless and unwanted. They make our lives miserable in order to spin a deadly web around us and the worst thing is that we get so much caught up in this web that we forget the real purpose of being born on this planet. We involve ourselves in finding solutions to our (illusory) worldly problems to the extent that we constantly keep on corrupting our souls and severing ties with our creator, while attempting to fulfill our unending & unleashed desires. Finally, a day comes when we suddenly realize how far we have travelled from the ‘ultimate source’. Unfortunately, most people tend to realize the havoc they played with the ‘gift of life’ only in the last phase of their lives. That time it’s too late to make amends.

The Truth about Demons

When I was younger, I used to hate the thought of demons and wonder why God didn’t do anything to stop them, or better still, wipe off their entire race (whatever it was) from the face of this planet. However, as I grew older, I learnt that ‘good’ and ‘evil’ are both a part of ‘grand design’ and both are necessary for maintaining balance in the universe. If ‘good’ helps saving souls, ‘evil’ puts the souls through grueling tests and devours only the unworthy ones which means it helps sifting wheat from the chaff. If evil bruises your spirit and tests your mettle, God heals your wounds and helps you recoup from the shocks you suffer. One acts like blistering heat and the other, like flowing cascade of water. Both play a significant role in carving a ‘beautiful you’ provided you understand the bigger picture and keep playing the role assigned to you. The more I try piercing the veil between the two worlds, the clearer it becomes that ‘evil’, in fact, helps the souls evolve. How about calling it a favor being done to the human race! Whatever said and done, the demons act as scavengers by devouring the weaker ones and making space for the stronger and worthy spirits. It might sound crazy but the truth is that it is only the ‘evil’ that helps you learn your lessons by creating every possible obstacle (that you can’t even conceive of) in your life path. The only way to defeat a devil is to stop holding on tightly to all that belongs to this world, be it material desires, relationships or emotions (negative or positive) resulting from those relationships. If you succeed in cutting your cords with the materialistic world, the devil gets nothing to feed on and leaves you alone. Sounds difficult but then who said it was going to be easy!

Our Inner Demons

Just like the living demons (evil in flesh & blood) our inner demons surface from time to time. They dig their poisonous fangs in to our soul and leave our spirit (literally) wounded. When they get hungry they just need something to feed on, something to devour and satiate their hunger. The only way to prevent them from feeding on our soul is to fight them or distract them. (Imagine a man holding a gun in your face and you duck right in time and dodge the bullet. The bullet is, no doubt, fired but it surely misses its target which is all you want.)

If you intend fighting them then you should work on strengthening your soul first, because that is the only way you can fight a demon. Alternatively, if you sense a demon rising (in or around you) and you know that you are not strong enough to fight it then it’s much saner to manipulate or distract it. Give it something to feed on other than your soul or your virtues. When a demon surfaces, its only objective is to push you on a wrong path by creating illusions in your mind. It tempts you…entices you and promises you to give you all that you ever wished for. All glittering things come with a price tag, though! The demon misses out on a small detail while offering you a utopian world. It does not tell you the price you have to pay in return of what he offers on the platter. Devil has only one goal to fulfill; it needs more and more souls to feed on so that it keeps it strength going. If it does not tempt the gullible and innocent souls, how would anyone fall in to the devil’s trap. It’s perhaps why we say, so often, that if something seems too good to be true …it most likely is.

Do Not Feed the Demons

How about giving it nothing to feed on…no desires, repressed emotions, anger, vengeance or regrets? It feeds on your negative emotions (including greed, gluttony, lust, envy and anger) and throws them back at you with double the intensity. The resulting misery of your imprisoned soul empowers the devil further. That’s why we say it’s so liberating to ‘let go’. If you can’t let go in body, you can’t let go in spirit. The only opportunity you get to detach yourself from all worldly elements is while you are in your body, not when you enter the spirit world. That should explain why hundreds of saints for centuries, all over the world, have emphasized on good deeds, detachment from worldly pleasures, indulging in spiritual practices, oneness with Higher Power and so on and so forth. All of their teachings focus on strengthening the soul. (Only weak spirits fall prey to demons; stronger ones recognize them and turn away from them). It seems that all of those spiritually evolved saints wanted the living souls to understand that they have been given a chance to see who they actually are, recognize their true essence and make themselves worthy of God’s kingdom while they are alive.

The body that we are born with is a vehicle that should be used to transport our soul to our real ‘Home’ (the Eternal Light) because that is where all souls belong. The day we shed off our cloak, we should have already attained freedom from attachment to everything and everyone. That is the only way ….out of the Matrix.

Anjali, About two days ago, I told my sister that I watch Ghost Stories on Saturdays, where regular folks and celebrities share their experiences, some good others not so good, and a few have encountered evil spirits, and the occasional demon. I know that negative entities do exist in the spirit world and can influence humans if the spirit, mind or aura is weak. And I say why not? A mass murderer who dies is not going to become evolved just because he discarded his body.

I am at a point where my spiritual interests are no longer in methods to enhance my life, (except for energy healing and clearing the mind) but in releasing attachments, transcending this world, as a mind that is free from attachments and illusions, gives the freedom to experience the ultimate Love, beauty and peace of God: enlightenment.

Thought provoking hub!

Hi Marie! I've realized that once we start indulging in spiritual practices, our mind starts opening up for new revelations. Energy healing and meditation might just seem like small steps in the process of enlightenment but they are the gateways to the 'ultimate truth' and liberation (from worldly attachments). We all need to start somewhere and depending on how much time we get to spend on this earth, we surely will reach our destination, sooner or later.

Thank you always for your warm presence.

Hi Anjali, this hub will be useful for those who need to see it. The inner landscape is not easy to trek through. I can attest to this on a personal level. You've tackled this topic with wide vision. Well done.

Jewels: Thank you very much for being so supportive. The inner landscape certainly is not easy to trek through. It is full of doubts, illusions, partial knowledge, faded memories (from past lives), unresolved issues, bleeding wounds and so on and so forth. All this inner clutter serves as an excellent recipe for blinded vision and clouded judgment. All of us are destined to know the ultimate truth but ...in our own time. Thank you again for your valuable insight.

This is so true anjali. Easier said than done though, but it is important to atleast start the process. As it is rightly said in Geeta, you hav got nothing from the world n u will take nothing from it. Keep up the good work AC. I am sharing this hub. Cheers

Hi Jay! This was another attempt to share my thoughts with everyone. Who knows what is the 'Truth' but at least most of us keep trying relentlessly to follow the righteous path. Sometimes we succeed and sometimes we don't but the point is to keep trying. :)

Thank you so much for your presence.

Interesting read. I find sometimes when the demons win a battle, it's important not to forget to not give up but get back up and keep on with the fight.

Never used to believe in the devil but of late my ideas are changing. Probably people who commit atrocities are hosting the devil in their minds or whatever it is that gives rise to their actions. Interesting article. Also triggers off thoughts. Thanks!

As far as I'm concerned, I always used to believe in the existence of devil but of late I've started recognizing its power as well. We start seeing the flip side of any situation as we grow older...just like realizing a simple fact that not everything falls under black or white category, there are some grey areas as well. Thanks for joining in. Feel free to come back. :)

I am back feeling free! While growing up I used to think that the devil was a figment of somebody's imagination which was coveniently placed within the reach of those "in power." (not limited to politicians)

However in the recent past, having observed the antics of a certain "entertainer," (you guessed right!) I really began to believe there was some evil force that can penetrate the minds of mortals when the conditions are right, and completely take over the reins.

I guess the guidelines you have mentioned in this article would provide the barrier that could keep evil forces at bay. I hope so too! Thank you Anjaliechugh. :)

We have to fight with the demons who are in the inside more than on the outside. Only when we can no longer get affected by them can we hope to attain the ultimate goal of reaching our Eternal Home and becoming One with the Eternal One.

And this opportunity is given to only us humans. So make the best use of this life.

Great hub for thought!!

We mortals constantly need to be reminded about this.

Very true! This is indeed an opportunity for humans to wake up from sleep and realize their true essence. Knowing oneself is the first step to connecting with higher self. Wish more and more people understand this simple fact.

I think without demons, Life would be perfect for us.

If that thing happens, we will probably forget our God, cause what would we wish for? if we have a perfect and no worries Life? If we know that we are always safe?

Life should be balance, ;)

Your Hub really made me think about the recent past in my life which started with my soul mate and I marrying and then he cut me off completely. I was devastated and trying everything I could to fix it. I got worn out and when I was most weakened, temptations began with other men offering me what my husband willingly would not. What you said about making wrong things make sense in your mind is so true, and unfortunate for those it happens to. I have this path to correct and I thought it was resisting correction but perhaps I am the one resisting. Thank you for bringing this to my attention... I need to take inventory of my mind and direction! I thought I was correcting my path, but that may have been another illusion.

First off, I love your handle / title.:)

I wish life could also be 'that simple'.

Whether we want it or not, life, for most of us, is an unending cycle of repeated tests. The faster we understand the quicker we break this cycle and move on to the next level. Its difficult to undergo tough situations and at the same time remain unaffected but that's what the test is. I don't want to get started again here. :) I'm glad if my thoughts could be some help.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Keep coming back. :)

Have you ever even seen a demon? they are not people. They do not test and devour the "unworthy ones" we are all equal, only God decides who is worthy and who is not. Not some little bit of a demon. Anyone who has fought true demons will know that. Its good that you have an interest in them but just be careful.

Wonderful, interesting hub, I enjoyed it and learned how to deal with the demons, I do believe a special hybrid breed walks amongst us like humans yes, some people are so detached and evil, that in my mind, they can't be 100% human, but half human, half demon, there are different breeds, the half and half are not as powerful as the full demon, but they are still very powerful and can make your life a living hell, here on this earth. Thanks for the tips, and voted up for peaking my interest :-)

Very well explain. Demons are within all of us. While each human can control his demon, is it up to us to enter the darkness while being guided with our clean light. You can either become a devil, or gain the dark secrets and hold onto your faith. Evolving into a great creature that will have great treasure in heaven.

Neat approach, Anjali, sharp.

I appreciate how the Buddhists talk about the Hungry Ghost within all of us, and the Native American shamans about animal spirits inhabiting people, and other real spirits within the wind and the woods, and how the orthodox Jews speak of angels as pure gusts of energy and emotion, bodiless and not alive the way we are, but still a real presence, with some subtle influence. Most of these spirits are pleasant or benign.

As for the real Demons, I have to look no farther than the males with machine guns and explosives in Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Mexico, and here at home too. Who but a Demon would shoot at innocents as they go to classes or work, or sit down to watch a movie? That would be the human demon.

anjalichugh profile image

anjalichugh 3 years ago from New York Author

@Kenja: You're absolutely right about human demons...walking in flesh & blood. Life itself is a war and we have to fight many wars in one lifetime and the most difficult seems to be the one that involves fighting our own inner demons. I believe that's the only war in which we can control the outcome - we can choose to feed our demons or starve them.

Thanks a lot for your insightful comments. Please feel free to come back. :)
