5 England Players who Should Be in the Squad

Updated on September 8, 2012

2. Rio Ferdinand

Update: 10.06.12

Hodgson said is his press conference today that he prefered to get a young inexperienced player to warm the bench than having to bench a player with a bigger reputation and ego who may not take quite as warmly to a bit part role but the counter arguement is that we bring the strongest team and players no matter what.

Roy Hodgson insists thats Rio's exclusion is purely for Footballing reasons, amidst mass speculation that it is his rift with John Terry that is responsible for him not getting a callup.

I get that hes getting old now and may not have the same fitness as he used to but lets not forget that Italy won the world cup with a defensive back four older than the Dinosaurs themselves. He has been a regular feature within the Manchester United back four still this season and his experience and cool head under pressure makes him invaluable, i still think his injury leading up to the 2010 world cup in South africa was a huge loss to England and who knows he may have been able to prevent us conceding 4.. yes four goals against Germany.

Cristiano Ronaldo has recently shown support towards Rio insisting he is the best defender England have and one of the best in the world still

3.

Is one of the only Manchester City players who has managed to keep his place since the mass investment from the Saudi's, this is testiment to his ability and i felt sure when he first hit the scene that he would have secured an England spot by now, hes big strong and fast and i certainly wouldnt complain to see him in an England shirt.

Glen Johnson

4.

One of the most exciting players in English football in a long time. Only ever comes on the final 20 minutes for both club and country but always manages to impose himself on the game cutting on that left foot and either scoring or coming mightily close.

He is direct, positive and has the ability to take on his man and carries a real goal threat. Theres a real freshness about Adam Johnson and this is the player i am most amazed isnt a definite within the squad, i would even go as far as giving him a regular first team place.

Perhaps his downfall is that its quite easy to forget about Adam since hes being continually wasted on the Man City, if City dont give him a more important role this season he needs to move clubs because he could be a key player for most clubs.

5. Joe Cole

Joe Cole was a wonderkid and being a left sided England midfielder was like gold-dust, hes very technically gifted and always players with a optomistic direct approach but somewhere along the way we lost faith in him.... why?

Just because the super rich Chelsea only considered him a rotation player and then he went and had a bad few games at Liverpool does not change the fact that Joe Cole is still the best naturally left sided midfielder we have.

England International Peformance

10 goals to Downings 0 and i still remember Joe Coles belter vs Sweden in a tournament where Joe Cole was probably our best player

Club History

Joe Cole has more goals in 9 apps for Liverpool than Downing has in 28 apps

If you could take only 1 of these 5 players, which would it be?

Do you think Phil Jagielka should be in the EURO Squad?

Has never been anything but reliable for England.... Lets not forget it was the heroics of him and Joleon Lescott who neutralized arguably the most potent international attack force in recent history (Spain) as England managed to hold out for a 1 - 0 win in an international friendly recently. Jag's reward for that... not even on the plane.

Update : Jag got another game again last night England vs Norway (International Friendly) and once again another clean sheet from him and Lescott... the argument for him to play is building.

UPDATE: WELL IT WOULD SEEM THAT ROY HODGSON IS A KEEN FOLLOWER AND HAS LISTENED TO OUR OPINIONS ON PHIL JAGIELKA, KEEP EM COMING
