12-14-09 Solo-Stereo-Winter-Ride

Updated on December 15, 2009

Music To Ride By

Don't wear ear plugs that come with portable stereo systems when you're cycling. It's unsafe. You may not be able to hear that car coming behind you. However I will. Today is a lonely winter ride and I have no company but Bonnie Rhaitt, Ray Charles, Dwight Yokum, Gladys Knight, Bruce Springsteen.... All pictures on this page were taken on this 33 mile bike ride today, 12-14-09.

Bonnie Rhaitt

Something in your eyes, Makes me want to lose myself,

Makes me want to lose myself, in your arms.

Something in your voice, Makes my heart beat fast,

I hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life.

If you knew how lonely my life has been,

And how long I've felt, so alone.

If you knew how I wanted someone to come along,

And change my life, the way you've done.

Feels like home, to me. Feels like home, to me.

Feels like I'm on my way back, where I come from.

Feels like home, to me. Feels like home, to me.

Feels like I'm on my way back, where I belong.

A little faster please Bonnie with "Kokomo Me"

When you get home baby, write me a few of your lines.

When you get home little baby, write me a few of your lines.

That'll be consolation, Lord honey, on my worried mind.

I left my baby, standing in the backdoor cryin'.

Well, I left my little baby, standing in the backdoor cryin'.

I never felt so sorry, Lord honey, till he said goodbye.

Kokomo me baby Kokomo me right.

Kokomo your mama, she'll be back tomorrow night.

I'd like to cry in your arms tonight, baby.

Baby, don't you want to go?

Right on to Lemon Light city,

Sweet home Kokomo.

"Do I Ever Cross Your Mind", Ray Charles

Do I ever cross your mind
Darlin' do you ever see
Some situation somewhere, somehow
Triggers your memory
And do you ever wonder
What became of all the time
Honey, do I ever, ever cross your mind

Do you ever want to know
Do all dreams go on endlessly
Or do they just run down somehow
And gradually become the custody
Of that melancholy jailer for the time, oh no
Do I ever, darlin', ever cross your mind
Do I ever cross your mind, uninvited?
When you're lonely
Or does it only happen to me
Darlin', do you ever want to know
What became of all the time
I wanna know, do I ever, ever cross your mind
Oh, baby, baby

Little darlin'
Do you ever wonder
What became of all the time
Please tell me, do I ever, ever cross your mind
Do I ever, ever cross your mind

Bruce Springsteen brings it down just a little.

I love to see cottonwoods blossom in the summer spring.

I love to see the message of love that the blue bird brings.

But when I see you walking with him down a long strand,

I wish I were blind, when I see you with your man.

I love to see your hair shining in a long summer's light.

I love to watch the stars fill the sky on a summer night.

The music plays, I watch how you touch him as you start to dance.

And I wish I were blind....

The Boss picks it up a bit-"First Time I crossed My Heart"

First time I crossed my heart I was begging baby please,

At your bedside, down on my knees,

When I crossed my heart, when I crossed my heart.

I crossed my heart, pretty baby over you.

Dwight Yokum-"Home For Sale"

Home for sale
That's much too large
Too many rooms
Big ole empty yard
Far more space
Than the owner needs
Price includes
All memories

Home for sale
Restored like new
Just a place
Two lives outgrew
A change in heart
Forces move away
Would like to keep
But just can't stay

Listen close and you might
hear the sound
Of what you think is rainfall
leaking down
The roof is fine
Set aside your fears
It's just a few remaining tears

Home for sale
Not all that old
A family's dream
Stands dark and cold
Scenic views
That go for free
Of all the love
That used to be

Home for sale
That's much too large

Cream-"I Feel Free"

Bum bum bum pa bum bum, I feel free,

Bum bum bum pa bum bum, I feel free,

Feel when I dance with you.

We move like the sea.

You, you're all I want you know.

I feel free. I feel free.

Creedence- "I Put A Spell On You"

I put a spell on you, because you're mine

You better stop the things that you're doin'

I said, "Watch out, I ain't lyin'", yeah

I ain't gonna take none of your foolin' around

I ain't gonna take none of your puttin' me down

I put a spell on you because you're mine, all right

Procol Harem-"Whiter Shade Of Pale"

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels cross the floor
I was feeling kind of seasick
The crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
But the waiter brought a tray

And so it was later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

You said there is no reason
And the truth is plain to see
But I wander through my playing cards
And would not let it be
I'm one of the sixteen virgins
Who are leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might just as well been closed

Otis Redding or Delbert McClinton will do!

I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
I've got dreams Dreams to remember
Honey I saw you there last night
Another mans arms holding you tight
Nobody knows what I feeled inside
All I know, I walked away and cried
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen to me] I've got dreams, rough dreams Dreams to remember
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw him kiss you again and again
These eyes of mine, they don't fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen honey] I've got dreams
Dreams, rough dreams
Dreams to remember
I still want you to stay
I still love you anyway
I still don't want you to ever leave
Girl, you just satisfy me! [Ooh-Wee!]
I know you said he was just a friend
But I saw you kiss him again and again
These eyes of mine, they don't fool me
Why did he hold you so tenderly?
I've got dreams
Dreams to remember
[Listen to me mama]
I've got dreams
Dreams, bad dreams
Dreams, rough dreams
To remember

Delbert McClinton- "I Want To Love You"

I want to love you,
Take you in my arms and love you
It's not just because you're always on my mind,
With me all the time
I just want to love you

I want to kiss you,
Girl, and let you know I miss you
I'm having feelings like I've never had before,
And all I want is more
I just want to love you

Baby, are you ready to stop wasting time?
Would it blind you if I let my love light shine?

I want to trust you,
Turn my feelings over to you
Let you see the frightened child inside of me,
How frail a man can be
I just want to love you

Baby, are you ready to stop wasting time?
Would it blind you if I let my love light shine?

I want to kiss you,
Girl, and let you know I miss you
I'm having feelings like I've never had before,
And all I want is more
I just want to love you

Ray Charles- "You Give Your Hand To Me"

You give your hand to me
And then you say, "Hello".
And I can hardly speak,
My heart is beating so,
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well -
Well, you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)

No, you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night,
And longs to kiss your lips
And longs to hold you tight.
Oh-oh, I'm just a friend,
That's all I've ever been -
'Cause you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)

For I never knew the art of making love,
Though my heart aches with love for you.
Afraid and shy, I-I've let my chance go by,
A chance that you might love me too.
(love me too)

You give your hand to me
And then you say, "Goodbye".
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy.
Oh, to never, never know
The one who loves you so -
Well, you don't know me.

Dixie Chicks

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I'm still waiting

I'm through with doubt
There's nothing left for me to figure out
I've paid a price
And I'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can't you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don't mind sayin'
It's a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Sayin' that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I'm still waiting

Dixie Chicks-"Heartache's On Me"

You coulda heard a pin drop
When they walked through the door
I turned my eyes away
My heart fell to the floor
Someone whispered
'Where's her halo?'
She had an angels face
He stood there smilin' holdin' on
To the one who took my place.

So tonight
The heartache's on me, on me
Let's drink a toast to the fool
Who couldn't see
Bartender pour the wine
'Cause the hurtin's all mine
Tonight, the heartache's on me

I wonder if he told her
She's the best he's ever known
The way he told me every night
When we were all alone
She'll find out when the new wears off
He'll find somebody new
She'll learn what heartache's all about
And what I'm goin' through

But tonight..
The heartache's on me, on me
Let's drink a toast to the fool
Who couldn't see
Bartender pour the wine
'Cause the hurtin's all mine
Tonight, the heartache's on me

But tonight..
The heartache's on me, on me yeah
Let's drink a toast to the fool
Who couldn't see
Bartender pour the wine
'Cause the hurtin's all mine
Tonight, the heartache's on me

Yes tonight,
The heartache's on me

Don Henley-"Last Worthless Evening"

I know you broke up with him
And your heart's still on the shelf
It's been over two years for me
And I'm still not quite myself
You can't be with someone new
And you can't go back to him
You're beginning to realize
That it's sink or swim
I see you around sometimes
And my heart just melts
You're lookin' like if you had your wish
You'd be somewhere else
And it just breaks my heart
To see you here this way
Someday I'll get the nerve
To walk up to you and say
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
Just gimme a chance
To show you how to love again
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
'Cause I'll be there
When your broken heart is on the mend
Every night it's the same old crowd
in smoky rooms
You catch a faint glimpse of love sometimes
But it never blooms
I've been around this block a time or two
And I've made some big mistakes
But girl I promise you, I promise you
That this is the worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
Just gimme a chance
To show you how to love again
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
'Cause it won't be long
'Till your little heart is on the mend
People inside their houses
with the shades pulled down
God knows, we could use some romance
In this sleepy bedroom town
I know you're still afraid to rush into anything
But there're just so many summers
And just so many springs
And this is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
Just gimme a chance to show you how
to love again
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend, baby
'Cause I'll be there when your broken heart
is on the mend
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend
Just gimme a chance, gimme a chance
To show you how to love again
This is the last worthless evening
That you'll have to spend 'cause it won't be long
'Til your little heart is on the mend

Drifters-"Save The Last Dance For Me"

You can dance- ev'ry dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye
Let him hold you tight
You can smile
Ev'ry smile for the man who held your hand
'Neath the pale moonlight
But don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin', save the last dance for me, mmmm

Oh, I know (oh, I know)
That the music's fine
Like sparkling wine
Go and have your fun
Laugh and sing
But while we're apart
Don't give your heart to anyone
But don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin', save the last dance for me, mmmm

Baby, don't you know
I love you so
Can't you feel it when we touch
I will never, never let you go
I love you oh, so much

You can dance (you can dance)
Go and carry on
'Til the night is gone
And it's time to go
If he asks if you're all alone
Can he take you home you must tell him no
'Cause don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arm's you're gonna be
So, darlin', save the last dance for me

'Cause don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arm's your gonna be
So, darlin', save the last dance for me, mmmm

Save the last dance for me, mmmm-hummmm
Save the last dance for me, mmmm

Drifters-"Sand In My Shoes"

I've Got Sand In My Shoes
The Drifters

Oh, the boardwalk's deserted
There's nobody down by the sho-o-o-o-ore
And the ferris wheel ride isn't turning around any m-o-ore-ore-ore
The heat wave and the crowds are just old new-ooh-ews
But I've still got some sand in my shoes.

(Sand in my shoes)
Brings mem'ries of the salty air
(Sand in my shoes)
Whoa-uh-oh-oh the blanket that we used to share
How we fell in love down by the sea-ee
Come back to me (back to me, back to me) with the sand in my shoes

Whoa, oh
When the water was cold
You would tremble and hold me so ti-i-i-i-ight
And we'd sit on the beach just to wait for the stars to come out at night
The heat wave and the crowds are just old new-ooh-ews
But I've still got some sand in my shoes

(Sand in my shoes)
Oh, brings mem'ries of the salty air
(Sand in my shoes)
Whoa-oh-uh-oh the blanket that we used to share
How we fell in love down by the sea-ee
Come back to me (back to me, back to me) with the sand in my shoes

(Sand in my shoes)
Whoa-uh-oh-oh
(Sand in my shoes)
Whoa, la, la, la, la, uh-whoa
(Sand in my shoes)

Drifters-"Saturday Night At The Movies"

Well Saturday night at 8 o'clock
I know where I'm gonna go
I'm gonna pick my baby up
And take her to the picture show

Everybody in the whole neighbourhood
Is dressing up to be there too
And we're gonna have a ball
Just like we always do

Saturday night at the movies
Who cares what picture you see
When you're hugging with your baby in the last row in the balcony

Well there's technicolor and cinemascope
Just out of Hollywood
And the popcorn from the candy stand
makes it all seem twice as good

There's always lots of pretty girls
With figures they don't try to hide
But they never can compare
To the girl sittin' by my side

Gladys Knight-Really Got To Use My Imagination

I've really got to use my imagination
To think of good reasons
To keep on keepin' on

Got to make the best of a bad situation
Ever since that day
I woke up and found
That you were gone

Darkness all around me
Blackin out the sun
Old friends call me
But I just don't feel like talkin to anyone

Emptiness has found me
And it just won't let me go
I go right on livin'
But why I just don't know

Staring down reality
Don't do me no good
'Cause our misunderstanding
Is too well understood

Such a sad, sad season
When a good love dies.
Not a day goes by
When I dont realize

I've really got to use my imagination
To think of good reasons
To keep on keepin' on

I got to make the best of a bad situation
Ever since that day
I woke up and found
That you were gone

Gladys Knight--"You're The Best Thing"

I've had my share of life's ups and downs
But fate's been kind, the downs have been few
I guess you could say that I've been lucky
Well, I guess you could say that it's all because of you

If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever reason there might be
Ooh, you'll be there between each line of pain and glory
'Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me
Ah, you're the best thing that ever happened to me

Oh, there have been times when times were hard
But always somehow I made it, I made it through
'Cause for every moment that I've spent hurting
There was a moment that I spent, ah, just loving you

If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever reason there might be
Oh, you'll be there between each line of pain and glory
'Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me
Oh, you're the best thing that ever happened to me
I know, you're the best thing, oh, that ever happened to me

Greg Brown- "You Drive Me Crazy"

Hello darlin'.
I been gone for awhile.
Come on in and see me,
I ain't wearin' nothin' but a smile.
Just when we should be kissin',
seems like we fuss and fight.
You say you don't know why,
and I say I don't know why.

You drive me crazy,
with all the things you do and do not do.
Umm, I love you so much,
I'm gonna drive you crazy too.

Well like that mythological goon,
pushing the stone up the hill,
if we don't get over pretty soon,
I don't think we ever will.

Is it the way you look right past me,
with your hands upon your hips?
Is it the little twinkle in your eye,
or the snear upon your lips?

You shoulda married someone,
a whole lot more like you--
drink coffee in the little cafes,
and you could go out shopping too.

I shoulda married someone,
who likes to camp and fish,
and make love for two days straight,
And you say, "don't you wish".

I love to sit beside you,
when the storm is past,
and we don't know what happened
but there's sweet peace at last.

We'll be alright for awhile,
and someday we'll be free,
and even if we both still look puzzled
let your face be the last one I see.

Garth Brooks-"If Tomorrow Never Comes"

Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day
That she's my only one
If my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance
To tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day
That she's my only one
If my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes

Lynyrd Skynyrd — "Call Me The Breeze"

Call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
I ain't got me nobody
I don't carry me no load

Ain't no change in the weather
Ain't no changes in me
Well there ain't no change in the weather
Ain't no changes in me
And I ain't hidin' from nobody
Nobody's hidin' from me
Oh, that's the way it's supposed to be

Well I got that green light baby
I got to keep movin' on
Well I got that green light baby
I got to keep movin' on
Well I might go out to California
Might go down to Georgia
I don't know

Well I dig you Georgia peaches
Makes me feel right at home
Well now I dig you Georgia peaches
Makes me feel right at home
But I don't love me no one woman
So I can't stay in Georgia long

Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
I ain't got me nobody
I don't carry me no load
Oooh Mr Breeze

Joan Baez- "I Just Can't See A Stranger In My Place"

I see the town where we were born
I see the place we were raised
I see all the things you wanted that I never gave
I see sadness, I see sorrow, I see pain on your face
But I just can't see a stranger in my place.

I can see now where we quarreled
I can see now I was wrong
I can see where you might weaken when I wasn't strong
I see mem'ries of a love gone bad that time can't erase
But I just can't see a stranger in my place.

No one seems to know you quite like I do
No one knows the things that make you cry
Looking back it seems I never showed you
And now I lie alone and wonder why.

I can see now where you might grow tired
Of dreams that don't come true
I can see where I have fallen short
Of the things I promised you
I can see now through my tear filled eyes
No love on your face
But I just can't see a stranger in my place...

Joe Cocker-"Jealous Kind"

Don't be angry if I seem rude
Each time we meet
Someone that you once knew
that you say used to be
so close to you
It's just that I'm so afraid
Someone might steal you away, I'd lose my mind
So please forgive me for the way I act sometimes
I'm the jealous kind
If you only knew where I lived
And didn't mind
[?] can't you see [??]
That I'm losing my mind
I want you all to myself
I don't want you shackin' with nobody else
I can't help it if it's the way I act sometimes
Because I'm the jealous kind
You know I love you girl
Just one more thing now,If you only knew
How much it hurts me just to hear you say
How, when we first met
I can't think that those were the good old days
Why must you hurt me so
I can't stand it no more, I'm tryin'
So please, I can't control these tears in my eyes
Lord I'm the jealous kind
I love you baby
You know you've got me baby
You know I'm the jealous kind

John Prine-"The Glory Of True Love"

Oh, the glory of true love
Is a wild and precious thing
It don't grow on old magnolias
Or only blossom in the spring
No, the glory of true love
Is it will last your whole life through
Never will go out of fashion
Always will look good on you

You can climb the highest mountain
Touch the moon and stars above
But Old Faithful's just a fountain
Compared to the glory of true love

Long before I met you darlin'
Lord, I thought I had it all
I could have my lunch in London
And my dinner in St. Paul
I got some friends in Albuquerque
Where the governor calls me "Gov"
You can give 'em all to Goodwill
For the glory of true love

Glory glory glory glory
You can't never get enough
Time alone will tell the story
Of the glory of true love

Glory glory glory glory
You can't never get enough
Time alone will tell the story
Of the glory of true love

John Prine- "The Glory of True Love"

John Prine-"Morning Train"

I saw you
All dolled up
Singing a song in your pickup truck
You put me on a morning train
You put me on a morning train
Ain't no need to explain
You put me on a morning train

Hey, Hey, Brother Ray
What'd you mean by "what'd I say"
You put me on a morning train

You put me on a morning train
Ain't no need to explain
You put me on a morning train

If it's gonna rain
And I wish that it would
Just go ahead and rain
Get it over for good
If there's really a hole in that big blue sky
Then move it on over and let me by

Constantinople is a mighty long word
Got three more letters than mockingbird
You put me on a morning train

You put me on a morning train
Ain't no need to explain
You put me on a morning train

I like you with your make-up on
All dolled up
Singing a song
You put me on a morning train

You put me on a morning train
Ain't no need to explain
You put me on a morning train

John Prine-"The Moon Is Down"

The moon is down
All over town
The forecast is grey
Now that she's gone away

The stars in the skies
Fell out of her eyes
They shattered when they hit the ground
And now the moon is down

The sun will be fine
It'll still shine all the time
The sky will be blue
And do what it's supposed to do
Ya see gravity pulls
But it can't keep you around
It'll be one long day
And now the moon is down

The moon is down
All over town
The stars in the skies
Fell out of her eyes
The gravity pulls
But it can't hold you down
It'll be one long day
Now the moon is down

It'll be on long day
Now the moon is down

John Prine-"Speed of the Sound Of Lonliness"

You come home late and you come home early
You come on big when you're feeling small
You come home straight and you come home curly
Sometimes you don't come home at all

So what in the world's come over you
And what in heaven's name have you done
You've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
You're out there running just to be on the run

Well I got a heart that burns with a fever
And I got a worried and a jealous mind
How can a love that'll last forever
Get left so far behind

It's a mighty mean and a dreadful sorrow
It's crossed the evil line today
Well, how can you ask about tomorrow
We ain't got one word to say

You're out there running just to be on the run
You're out there running just to be on the run
You're out there running just to be on the run

Photos

Some of the pictures above were taken without stopping. There were some with the animals and some spots I did stop, especially with the old house. I had to jump a ditch to get that one. So the ride went a little slow but I dressed for the cold weather.
