2013-14 Austrian Cup: First Round Recap
Saturday Action OFB-Cup
Fifteen matches took place on Saturday with all clubs hoping to advance to the next round.
The first upset of the tourney happened when Austria Salzburg a third tier club defeated SV Scholz Grodig a top tier club. Tied 0-0 thru the first 90 mins both clubs scored in extra time to level the match at 1-1 heading into pealnty kicks. Salzburg would win 6-5 and advance to the next round. Grodig was hit hard when Mario Leitgeb was given a direct red card in only the forth minute. Dieter Elsneg would get a red card in 71st min leaving Grodig two men down. They still took the lead in 105' minute with goal from Tadej Trdina. Salzburg would score five mins later to level it with a goal from Nicholas Mayer.
Wolfsberger AC would defeat Schwaz 3-0 behind two second half goals from David De Paula and a goal from Sandro Gotal. Gotal, Michael Sollbauer and Nenad Jovanovic picked up yellow cards for Wolfsberger.
SC Wiener Neustadt defeated third tier club ASV Drabburg 3-0 behind two goals from Matthias Koch in the first half and a second half goal from Manuel Wallner. The only bad news for Wiener was Mattias Sereining picked up two yellow cards and was shown a red in 88th minute and sent off.
SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz had know problems with FC Team Wiener as the won 5-0 to advance to the next round. Marco Djuricin started things off with a goal in 18th minute. Robert Beric scored his first goal in the 36th minute to give Sturm Graz a 2-0 lead at half. They would get a goal from Imre Szabics in 63rd minute before Beric scored his second goal in 69th minute. Florian Kainz topped things off in 86th minute to give them a 5-0 victory.

Friday's Action OFB-Cup
Sixty-Four clubs started their quest for the Austrian Cup also know as the OFB-Cup this weekend with Round One play. This tourney has teams from the top three tiers in Austria football playing in it. This recap focus on those ten clubs from the top tier that are playing in tourney.
These games were played over the weekend with Sv Josko Ried starting off play for the big boys on Friday. Their opponent was SC Bregenz a third tier team. The clubs played a tight first half but Ried exploded in the second half with four goals to win 4-0 and advance. Ried received goals from Rene Gartler, Sandro Wieser, Robert Zulj and Toni Vastic.
Admira Wacker Modling also played on Friday, their opponent was SV Seekirchen. Wacker struck early with a goal in the sixth minute from Stephan Auer. They would get a second half goal from Markus Rusek to win the match 2-0 and advance to next round.
FK Austria Wien was the last club to play on Friday. They faced off against third tier club SV Oberwart. Two quick goals in the first 28 minutes gave a Austria Wien a 2-0 lead at half. they would add a third in second half to win match 3-0 and advance to next round. Philipp Hosiner and Alexander Grunwald scored in first half while Marko Stankovic scored in second half.

Sunday Action from OFB-Cup
Only three matches were played on Sunday all involving top notch clubs. Red Bull Salzburg had the biggest first round victory beating Union St. Florian 9-0. Martin Hinteregger scored in the 10th minute that was followed four minutes later by a goal from Marco Meilinger. Yet another four minutes went by a Alan scored to give them a 3-0 lead only eighteen minutes in. Stefan ilsanker ended the first half scoring with a goal in the 36th minute.
The second half was the Jonathan Soriano show as he scored three straight goals thirteen minutes apart to make it a 7-0 lead. Sadio Mane would make eight with his goal in 73rd minute while Havard Nielsen ended the scoring in 85th minute with his goal.
Wacker Innsbruck got three first half goals in route to their 4-1 win against SV Allerheiligen. Alexander Hauser, Thomas Bergmann and Christopher Wernitznig all scored in first half. Wernitznig would add another goal in second half. Allerheiligen's goal came in stoppage time.
SK Rapid Wien suffered the second upset of the first round losing to LASK Linz. Both clubs were scoreless for 120 minutes then LASK won by a 5-4 margin in penalty kicks to shock Rapid.
So eight of the top ten clubs advance to the second round which will take place in September. Clubs are gearing up as the 2013-14 Austrian Bundesliga kicks off next weekend.
