Whether you use a campfire, or a camping stove, these easy camping breakfast ideas and recipes will make the camp cook seem like a genius.

From light to hearty, and grab-and-go to a sit-down meal, these camp meals are flexible enough to fit into any camping agenda.

Hobo Baggie Omelet Camp Breakfast

Quick and easy, and using the least camping cookware, this breakfast recipe is also a special treat for kids because it is a camping meal they can make themselves - with just a little adult supervision.

The concept: Omelet ingredients are combined in a qt.-size Ziploc freezer bag and cooked for about 10 minutes in a pot of boiling water. (this method is a tried-and-true safe way to make an omelet)

Cookware needed: 1 large pot, 1 skillet*, 1 cooking spatula, 1 pair of tongs or large serving spoon, qt.-size Ziploc freezer bags. *breakfast meat can be cooked at home instead of in camp - to save time and effort

Ingredients: Eggs, sausage, (and/or bacon or ham), shredded cheese, salt & pepper. *Optional: diced onions, diced green peppers.

Instructions:

  1. Add two eggs, a portion of cooked sausage and/or bacon, shredded cheese, and salt & pepper, (to taste), to a baggie.
  2. Gently squeeze baggie to force most of the air out. Close bag seal and squeeze and "smoosh" the ingredients to mix.
  3. Drop in boiling water and cook for approximately 10 minutes - you will be able to see when they are done.

Notes: If multiple varieties are being made - it's a good idea to label each bag with the camper's name. And of course any other ingredients you want to use can be added with the eggs and stuff. (detailed recipe link below)

Cheesy Grits Breakfast Bowl

This easy camping breakfast recipe will change a lot of minds about grits when they taste this hearty combo.

The concept: A 1-bowl breakfast that combines Southern Grits topped with eggs, shredded cheese, and crumbled bacon. This breakfast is even easier if you cook the bacon at home and re-heat it at camp.

Cookware needed: 1 pan or teapot to heat water, 1 skillet*, 1 cooking spatula, 1 large serving spoon.

Ingredients: Eggs, bacon, 2 packs of instant cheesy grits per camper, shredded cheese, salt & pepper, and butter.

Instructions:

  1. Cook bacon and set aside, drain pan and cook scrambled eggs.
  2. Put 2 packs of instant grits in each bowl and mix with appropriate amount of hot water.
  3. Add 2-3 pats of butter to top of grits, then top with a generous scoop of scrambled eggs, then top the eggs with 2-3 strips of bacon, (crumbled), and shredded cheese. Salt & Pepper to taste

Notes: Any flavor instant grits can be used, but cheese-flavored grits work best. Serve with toast or biscuits. (detailed recipe link below)

Sausage and Egg Burrito Camping Breakfast

Hearty and convenient, this Sausage and Egg Burrito recipe idea will quickly become a camp menu favorite. You get all the traditional breakfast foods in a hand-held grab-and-go burrito wrap

The concept: Sausage, (and/or bacon), scrambled eggs, cheese, and hashbrowns all wrapped-up as a burrito that can be served ready to eat, or as a buffet set-up to let each camper make their own. *Note: For ease of prep the breakfast meat(s) can be cooked at home and brought to camp in a Ziploc.

Cookware needed: 1 large skillet, 2 if you can multitask, 1 cooking spatula, 1 large serving spoon, heavy-duty foil.

Ingredients: Eggs, sausage, (and/or bacon or ham), shredded cheese, hashbrowns, (frozen. diced hashbrowns work best), tortilla wraps, cooking oil, salt & pepper. *Optional: diced onions, diced green peppers.

Instructions:

  1. If used, cook the bacon first, set aside and save bacon grease. Cook the sausage, using the spatula to keep it chopped-up in small chunks. Set aside.
  2. Cover the bottom of the skillet with bacon grease or cooking oil and cook the hashbrowns until well-browned. Set aside.
  3. Cook the scrambled eggs until almost set. Stir in 1 cup shredded cheese and cook until scrambled eggs are done.
  4. Heat tortilla wraps - *wrap in foil-pack with a damp paper towel and heat on campfire grate, or in a skillet on the camp stove.
  5. Spoon a generous portion of the cheesy scrambled eggs on tortilla, top with hashbrowns and breakfast meat(s), and fold into a burrito.

Cheater's Country Sausage Gravy Camping Breakfast

This Cheater's Country Sausage Gravy breakfast will surprise everyone. If they don't see it made - they won't be able to tell it from Grandma's gravy. Accept no substitutes!

This recipe specifically uses Pioneer Brand Country Sausage Gravy Mix, if you can't find it in your grocery store don't settle for another brand! The recipe details and printout links below will show you where to find it.

The concept: Delicious country sausage gravy served over buttermilk biscuits or toasted English muffins, - with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns.. *Note: For ease of prep the sausage and biscuits can be cooked at home and brought to camp in a Ziplocs.

Cookware needed: 1 med. large (2-4qt.) pot/pan, 1 large skillet, 2 if you can multitask, 1 cooking spatula, 1 large serving spoon, heavy-duty foil* (*for reheating the biscuits).

Ingredients: Eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, (frozen. shredded hashbrowns work best), biscuits and/or English muffins, gravy mix packets, cooking oil, butter, and salt & pepper. *Optional: diced onions, diced green peppers.

Instructions:

  1. Cook the sausage, using the spatula to keep it chopped-up in small chunks. Set aside.
  2. In the med.-lg. pot, prepare gravy mix and water per package instructions.
  3. Cover the bottom of the skillet with cooking oil and cook the hashbrowns until well-browned. Set aside.
  4. Cook the scrambled eggs, seasoned with salt & pepper to taste. Set aside.
  5. Warm the biscuits or toast the muffins.
  6. Combine the finished country sausage gravy and the cooked sausage in skillet, bring to simmer and serve.

A hearty crowd-pleaser, this Mountain Man 1-Skillet camping breakfast will fill even the biggest of appetites. All the traditional breakfast foods, plus cheddar cheese, together in a camp meal that will have them asking for more.

The concept: Sausage, (and/or bacon), scrambled eggs, cheese, and hashbrowns all together in a skillet, served ready to eat. Just set it on the table, add biscuits or toast, coffee and juice, and you have a meal they will talk about for a long time

Cookware needed: 1 large skillet, 2 if you can multitask, 1 cooking spatula, 1 large serving spoon, heavy-duty foil.

Ingredients: Eggs, sausage, (and/or bacon or ham), shredded cheese, hashbrowns, (frozen. diced hashbrowns work best), diced onions, diced green peppers, cooking oil, salt & pepper.

Instructions:

  1. If used, cook the bacon first, set aside and save the bacon grease. Cook the sausage, using the spatula to keep it chopped-up in small chunks. Set aside.

  3. Saute the diced onions and green pepper until onions are translucent, then add the scrambled eggs, (salt & pepper to taste), to skillet and cook until the eggs are almost set.
  4. Stir in 1 cup shredded cheese, breakfast meat(s), and hashbrowns, and cook until scrambled eggs are done. *Note: save a little of the crumbled meat(s) to sprinkle on top with the cheese topping.
  5. Top with 1 cup shredded cheese, cover and allow cheese topping to melt.
  6. Top with a few sprigs of parsley or fennel, (or any green herb), and set on the table to serve
