Asia Cup – Sri Lanka Vs Pakistan At Mirpur – Who Will Win?

Malinga Will Make A Difference

Is Killing School Girls A Broad Minded Act?

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to meet tomorrow at Mirpur in the Asia Cup ODI. It is a match which can produce an exciting finish. Unless you have an important work to do, you should not miss seeing this match. Both are equally talented team. Misbah-ul-Haq stated after Pakistan’s victory over the home side Bangladesh that he was not satisfied fully about his batting performance. Misbah stated that Pakistan should have scored more than 300 runs in that match, particularly after taking into consideration the excellent opening stand. This was quite true. Misbah is an intelligent captain compared to Shahid Afridi. Misbah talks less and thinks more. He has a good brain. Afridi is an empty vessel which makes more noise. He talks unnecessarily. For example, after Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of India in last year’s World Cup semi-final at Mohali, Afridi told reporters that Muslims have broader mind compared to any other people. Who asked Afridi about Muslims or about their broad mind? Scores of school girls are being butchered in Afghanistan by the Muslims in the name of Prophet Mohammad and Holy Koran. Is this what Afridi calls broad mind? Hindus and Christians do not have this ‘broad mind’ as they do not butcher school girls.

Geoff Boycott Was Dropped After Scoring A Slow Double Century

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has a good batting line-up. Their top order batsmen are in impeccable form right from the Australian tri-series tour. Jayawardene, Dilshan, Sangakkara, Chandimal, Tirumanne and Tharanga – they form an impressive batting power for Sri Lanka. Even the tail-enders Kulasekara, Mathews and Prasad can produce some exciting performance and lend support to the side. It was a good thing that Mahela Jayawardene prepared to shoulder the responsibility of being an opening batsman. He is being successful too in that position. Tharanga was a failure as an opening batsman as he scores his runs very slowly. I know that Geoff Boycott, even though a slow scorer, was a ‘successful’ opening batsman. Once Boycott was dropped from the England team after scoring a slow double century in his home ground Headingly, Leeds in 1967 against India. Tharanga seems to be happy at his demotion and is scoring runs.

Malinga Will Make A Difference

It is not known whether Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lanka main bowler will play in tomorrow’s match. Malinga was injured and did not play in the match against India. That was one reason why India could win so easily. But if Malinga plays tomorrow, Pakistani batsmen are in for trouble.

It Will Be Good For Pakistan To Bat First

Pakistani opening batsmen can produce some scintillating performance. Pakistan lacks a finisher like Dhoni or Virat Kohli. Misbah himself is a good batsman but he lacks finishing touch. Unless Pakistani team hones up its end game techniques, it is difficult to press for victory while chasing the target. It will be good for Pakistan to bat first. But Sri Lanka batsmen can chase the target successfully if their top batting order clicks. If Pakistan bats first and puts up a total of around 275 and their bowlers strike vital blows early in the innings, then Pakistan can wrap up the match.

My Heart Longs For A Sri Lanka Victory

On the other hand if Sri Lanka bats first and puts up a total of around 300, it can bowl out Pakistan and win the match. There is an equal chance for both teams to win. The teams are equally balanced with Sri Lanka having an edge in batting and Pakistan an edge in bowling. In fielding, both the teams are equal. Therefore it is difficult to predict which team will win. I do not want to hazard a guess about this match. But being an Indian and Pakistan being an enemy of India, my heart longs for a Sri Lanka victory.
