Will Sri Lanka fight it out till the last this time?
An Interesting Match In The Offing
An interesting battle of nerves is in the offing tomorrow when Australia takes on Sri Lanka at Sydney in the next one day match of the triangular series. Australia will play without the services of its captain Clarke who sustained a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of the match. Australia will be captained by Ponting, who has ample experience in leading a side.
Last Match Had A Tantalising End
The last one day match between the two sides found a tantalising result. Sri Lanka, while attempting to chase the Australian total lost nine wickets and looked like losing the match. But the last wicket partnership between Angelo Matthews and Prasad produced a partnership which looked like taking Sri Lanka to victory. Aussies were really worried when this partnership was progressing. In the final over, Matthews, while trying to finish the match with a big hit, holed out a catch and Sri Lanka lost the match by a cat’s whisker of just five runs.
Aussie Invincibility Has Been Broken
This time the match is equally favourable to Aussies and Sri Lankans. But one important thing that was achieved by India in this triangular series was that they broke the invincibility of the Aussies in their last match by winning the game. The Aussie weakness in their bowling has been exposed. Now the Sri Lankan batsmen will go for an all out attack against the Aussie bowlers, whether they are batting first or chasing. Thus the match promises to produce an interesting finish.
Will Doherty Trouble The Lankans?
Sri Lankan batsmen showed some weakness while handling Ravichandran Ashwin of India. This was surprising given the fact that the sub-continent players are fairly equipped to play spinners very well. It will be interesting to see whether the Australian spinner Doherty is able trouble the Lankan batsmen. The performance of Dinesh Chandimal will be closely monitored as he is shaping up well in this series. For Australia, David Warner, on his day, can destroy any bowling side single handed. But Lasith Malinga is a true asset for Sri Lanka and if Malinga brings about destruction in his first spell, the Lankans will be well placed to win the match.
