Fantasy Football is for the ultimate NFL fan

Fantasy football is a great way to get engaged with the NFL when it’s not Sunday afternoon or Monday night. Many Americans simply love the game of fantasy football and the fan base has continued to grow each year since its inception. The ability to control a professional NFL football crew of men is a dream come true for a lot of sports loving Americans. Play against other teams in a private league and build the ultimate dream team. Picking out the cream of the crop from the hundreds of competitors is a feat attempted each week by every participant.

Modern fantasy football is actually traced back to a Raiders Game tailgate get together planned as a cross country trip. The ground work for the rules and guidelines currently followed by all modern day fantasy football players developed out of this blend of ultimate fans.

Quick overview of how to play

The goal is to pick the team or players owning the best stats during any given week of play. The combination of statistical numbers for all chosen squad members determines a winner or a loser for fantasy playing. The top figures as a total take first place and the lowest is in last. Teams are arranged moving throughout the league for each position (or an entire squad such as defense or special teams).

Statistical numbers come from actual NFL team play. For example, if the San Diego Chargers quarterback for the season through three interceptions during this weeks games and this is the quarterback for your fantasy lineup these are your stats. Each position of an actual NFL squad lineup is selected.

Who to compete against

Choices are made by individual players trying to win against friends, family or even strangers. Depending on which site data or stats are organized on determines how the games are played. For the most part the rules and arrangement mirrors the actual NFL. The AFC and NFC are followed as well as the division configurations.

Strategy

The success of a fantasy football player relies on making better choices with selections than the opponents for a given week. How those selections are made depends upon a formula. Nearly every player believes that they have the winning fantasy football formula. Putting a strategy in place to achieve the best single one is not a simple task. In fact, there is more than one way to get the best tactic or plan of action.

Just as every individual player in the league has an enormous amount of ingrained talent among other things in their skill-set to get to the ultimate realm of play, each personal playing a fantasy game is honing his own skill set to win. Part of that skill set is a formula.

Statistics

Success or not losing is actually a little bit of everything. Some people say the winning one or main focus is stats. They hunker down and pore over the NFL team’s data, player’s numbers, special team’s stats and probably the owner’s historical numbers if they have the information at hand.

After these, as if they are studying for the MCATs or medical school admission tests, they have achieved what they envision as the ideal NFL team. Every slot or every position based on these gives a projection on paper of a great outcome of winning a fantasy football team league competition. The belief is through the numerical data of all or some of these he has finally found what it takes to be a winner.

Superstitious

There are the superstitious players. They take a quick look at stats to have some sort of actual "proof" to back up the decisions made. Though, the ultimate choices on who they play, pick up or sit out for their fantasy football season is based on personal football superstitions applied with no method to the madness in nearly all cases.

You hear him analyzing his game play with statements such as “He doesn’t play good every second season. Since this is his fourth trade in the league he will play better next season with this team” (what?!), “that one cannot return any kicks his first six months after getting the flu on a Wednesday”, “he sucks when they play in football throw back jerseys” or “this guy who is wearing his lucky socks always makes the extra point each and every time they play in temps above 20 degrees” .

These are players who absolutely and positively shouldn’t have any wins under the belt, but they do. Whether they have data which actually backs up the assumptions or not.

Breaking new ground

Imagine one using a practice or method no one has heard of before. How many games would anyone imagine this joker to win. Even the superstitious fellow occasionally throws in some type of material laying a groundwork to support his assumptions based on data or facts. This is one where none of these things apply.

The emotional state of a member of the NFL comes into play with winning and losing for this particular type of individual. They want to know who is getting divorced, which center attended his sister’s confirmation last week and which tight-end is going to be a father for the first time or got their wedding called off.

The scheme embraces foolishness like if a kicker bought a house with blue trim on a Wednesday. This tells them, for some reason only they see, he will or won’t play well this season. Which combination is a winning one and which one leans the opposite direction is only seen by the player making the call with their fantasy team.

Of course they are working for to locate the very best formula for getting a better team than others in their league. However, there is something to be said for even glancing at the stats to make an informed decision about your NFL team and players. Even the fellow checking out the wind speed and throw back jerseys has a little more credibility than this guy.

Mixture approach

Then we have the fellow putting into play a combination of more than a few or blending a couple or more of these. He sometimes even tries out using all of these and more. All of these make up his mojo and creates the NFL team dreams are made of.

Bring it all together each week

In conclusion

The NFL has to thank the inventor and all of the predecessors that contributed to the first cross country band of brothers putting it all together. Since a player needs to follow all of the teams, each week of the NFL season there have been more fans watching more of the games than ever before as fantasy football has a population that is continuing to soar.

This cracks me up:). I grew up with all females so no boys to learn football. My husband is a fanatic and splays Fantasy - I finally decided to play because if you can't bear them join them, right? So the first year I chose my players based on: cuteness! They had to be cute or have a nice face, so ething like that...or because I liked the ring of his name:->. Haha the guys were so mad when I eneded up in 1st place week one:) lol. I've been playing ever since! Haha! I won the survivor league last year! So the guys will not let me play during the reular season - they will only let me play in the play off's and the guy who runs it told me because they don't want to get beat by a girl!! Makes me mad...

I would LOVE to start doing fantasy football. I used to hate football because I thought it was boring. My son started playing a few years back and that's when I really got into it. I'm now officially the Madden Queen in my house full of boys lol.
