Best Men's Hiking Boots 2013

What's the Best Hiking Boot for Men?

That's really a difficult question to answer because it depends. There are certain qualities that you want in every hiking boot - comfort, support, good fit, and durability are a few essential qualities that come to mind, but it really all depends on terrain or where and how you plan to go hiking. For example is your hike through the woods on a trail that you made up yourself? The kind of hiking boot required for this kind of adventure is completely different than the kind you would take on a casual hike up an oft-used trail with few rocks or objects in your way. How long is your hike going to be? Are you going to be taking a lot of additional weight with you? Understanding the answer to each of these questions should help you narrow down which of the hundreds of hiking boots you should choose from.

Choosing the right shoe for your hike is the most important aspect of trip preparation. It affects your performance and safety. If you are a serious hiker, then make sure you pick the best. For casual hikers, there are many mid-range hiking boots that are more than adequate in the $50-$100 price range. I've listed hiking boots for both types of hikers below.

Best Hiking Sandal

When conditions allow for it, some hikers like to take their more ridged boots off and wear sandals which offer appropriate support and breath-ability. Other hikers like to take a comfortable shoe just about wherever they can go with a conventional hiking boot. With these incredible sandals you can almost do just that!

Newport Leather Bison - Comes in 9 colors. These lightweight sandals from KEEN feature a rubber outsole with a multi-directional lug pattern and razor siping for amazing grip over any surface. Because of the metatomical footbed, the shoe comforms to your foot's shape in order to provide maximum comfort and protection. Waterproof and washable.

Teva Men's Omnium Closed Toe Sandal, Bungee Cord - This incredible hybrid shoe features a PU-coated synthetic leather for quick drying and ultimate lightweight fit. The greatest part of it is that you can hike almost anywhere in comfort while having the breath-ability of a sandal.

Teva Men's Dozer - The Dozer from Teva features extra protection by providing a durable synthetic upper for extra foot coverage.  Use the pull cord for one pull adjustment.  Like the others this men's hiking sandal offers a mixture between a lightweight shoe with breath-ability and durability.

Top Men's Trail Running Shoe

Trail running shoes are typically used for hiking, casual wear, and the increasingly popular trail running.

Salomon Men's XT Wings Trail Running - This shoe has the durability and stability you need for any trail run coupled with the unparalleled speed (13 oz for size 9) and comfort cushioning of a running shoe. For those who need pronation control like I do, this shoe provides that in the midsole as well. This is a fantastic shoe! Here's some additional information about the Salomen XT's construction. The upper shoe is textile, the panels are quick drying breathable mesh. The outsole is running contragrip and the midsole is triple density EVA. High lacing has been placed for arch support and the shank is an agile chassis skeleton which helps to prevent unnecessary sprained ankles.

Don't Just take my word for it

A reviewer on Amazon said that the Men's Salomon XT Wings Trail Running shoe is "perhaps the most technologically advanced shoe I've every worn. It has stability control, traction control, a durable upper, a comfortable midsole, great handling on any terrain."

New Balance 813 Men's Trail Running Shoe - Hopefully this isn't too biased because I have loved pretty much every New Balance Shoe I've owned (that I purchased in the right size). Using a breathable blend of synthetic and mesh the 813 provides comfort and durability over long distances in a very affordable price range. The patented N-ERGY cushioning is great for shock absorption over long distances and the N-Durance is great for traction.

Also Check out: You might also want to look into Adida's Kanadia Trail 2 Running shoe as a great mid-range option. With shoes, I tend to go with the brands that fit me the best, so if you've had good experiences with Adidas this could be a great option for you. It's one of the bestselling Trail Running Shoes on Amazon and has had some great reviews.

Even though I've given a few examples of good cross hiking and off-trail boots, make sure to do your homework to look around for the best cross hiking and off-trail boots. Hi, interesting hub and well written. I always thought as long as the boots fit wear them, but clearly there have been improvements over the years.

Very nicely done, but I was hoping to read more about boots than shoes. Quality boots are crucial. I've had cheap boots wreck my feet and knees, so I'm on the lookout for some quality back country boots that fit my wide feet.
