Five Best Camping Air Mattresses - Including Camp Heavy Duty Mattress
Going camping is not all about seeing the beauty of nature and communing with it. It's also about relaxing and enjoying yourself. So you need a good night's sleep after those grueling hours of trekking, right? So if you're one who expects comfort while out camping, you might want to consider making a camp mattress part of your standard camping equipment.
So what type of camping air mattress you should buy then? Can you sleep like a baby when you're out in nature? A good place to find a comfy mattress is Amazon, where you'll very likely find something affordable, and, it'll be delivered right to your door.
Here are some tips to consider when shopping online for camping air mattresses.
· First, as you will be using it in the outdoors it should be thick and tough to withstand possible punctures from rough and sharp rocks, and it should be waterproof in case of rain.
· It should be portable enough to fit it inside your camping backpack or its bag should securely sit on top of your backpack.
· It should be easy to repair in case of punctures.
· Take note of the contours, bumps and textures of the mattress; some people don't like textured mattresses.
· Don’t forget to consider how it's inflated; is it done manually with the use of manual portable air pump or is it blown up with a foot pump? You can also buy a battery powered air pump for quicker inflation. Just make sure your pump matches the air mattress’ air valve.
· Shop for a repair kit as well in case of puncture accident. Choose an all-purpose but quality patch kit appropriate for repairing holes in air mattresses.
Don't forget to consider the size of the mattress. Basically, air mattresses come in twin or queen size. And they can be raised. Raised air mattresses are more comfortable but you'll have to buy a portable air mattress frame so it will be protected from the soil. A mattress frame will enable you to take your mattress wherever you want without worrying it may get punctured by sharp objects
So let’s take a look at the best air mattresses (IMO). You will see a lot on Amazon and eBay but here I'm sharing five of my best choices. These are affordable and some of them even have warranties.
Coleman Double-Sized Quickbed with 4D Pump and Wrap 'N' Roll Storage
This double-sized quickbed is good for camping or if you just need an extra bed at home. It's made from puncture-resistant PVC so it can stand up to some wear and tear. It has 40 coils inside it to make it a more supportive and comfortable mattress. It has an airtight system that can guarantee no air leaks. Inflating it is a breeze because it comes with a pump that is included with the mattress. The pump does require 4D batteries though; I'm a big fan of rechargeables. If you'll be camping for days, bring extra batteries. Or you can just use a manual air pump.
The price is right and it's comfy. This mattress is really probably most suitable for caravan camping, but it's easy enough to roll it up and put it in its portable bag and stuff it in your camping backpack.
Intex Downy Twin Bed
This Intex airbed has 14-gauge vinyl beams and waterproof flocked top. Unlike a lot of other ordinary air mattress, its wave beam construction will eliminate the uncomfortable surface bumps that can make your back sore. The wonderful thing about this airbed in my opinion is it is sturdy enough to take the weight of a 300-pound person or two adults. When fully inflated, it can raise as much as 8.75 inches tall.
This is a popular airbed because it doesn’t take up much space in backpacks and it's very light to carry. If you will be taking it camping, it'd be a good idea to pair it with a battery-operated pump or a bigger foot pump.
Coleman Translucent Twin Quickbed with 4D Pump
Do you want a camping air mattress that looks good as well as performs well? Well, this Coleman air mattress is popular for its translucent features. It has a soft suede top that is made from PVC and 15 percent more durable against punctures than the average bed. For easy inflation and deflation, it also has a double lock valve that can open extra wide. It comes with a 4D quick pump so you just need 4 D-size batteries (rechargeables are a good idea) to inflate it to its full capacity of 74 by 39 by 8.5 inches. Having this airbed in your tent will be luxurious because Coleman makes sure all their airbed products are combined with their airtight technology and ComfortSmart coil system that can lock air in 2 ways. It's so comfortable and affordable, a lot of students use this bed in their dorms.
At home, you can use it as an extra bed and your guests will be glad you did. This is a good quality bed and it inflates quickly. Good value for money.
Aerobed Simply Rest Inflatable Bed, Twin
This aerobed inflates in just one minute and deflates in 15 seconds because of its quick air release. It has puncture-resistant construction with heavy-gauge and non-allergenic PVC vinyl. It is a perfect bed for sleep-over guests and ideal as a camping bed. When fully inflated, it's 9 inches thick, 78 inches long and 60 inches wide so even two adults can sleep together. Some people who have used this air mattress say it can hold the weight of a 600 pound man.
It comes with a storage bag so you can strap it to your back pack and hike away if camping is your thing. If not, it's a great extra bed for home. The included pump has two extra tips so the pump can also be used on other air beds.
Coleman Rocky Mountain Twin Quickbed with Wrap 'N' Roll Storage
This one is also from Coleman so it also has the Coleman ComfortSmart coil system; this one has 32 coils and soft suede top. This is another product that can deliver leak-free performance because of its heavy duty construction and quick wrap and roll storage system. Fully inflated, it's 74 inches long and 39 inches wide so you and your bedmate can comfortably sleep on its 5 inche thick cushion. This air mattress is good for camping or as an extra bed for guests at home. When using it as a camp bed, you don’t have to worry it might get punctured easily because its construction is pretty heavy duty.
