England Massacres Pakistan

England Makes a Mockery of Pakistan Bowlers

On a day-night when Pakistan struggled to put up a modest winning target of 223, England made a mockery of the Pakistani bowling and made to look like a match where kids of below five years were bowling to them. Alastair Cook, England captain looked like hitting his third consecutive century. Nobody in the world, least of them the Pakistani bowlers, looked like stopping him when he himself decided to quit after hitting a score of 80. However, it was left to his opening partner Kevin Pietersen to complete the well deserved century. He remained unbeaten with 111 and in the company of Morgan, saw England through the winning target. Delhi Daredevils, his new team in the IPL (Indian Premier League) will be too happy to find that he is in good nick.

One-Sided Match from the Word Go

Right from the word go it was a totally one-sided match. It is really a surprise that England, after getting whitewashed in the test series by Pakistan, is making a comeback in the one day four match series in a spectacular fashion, having already won the first three matches and the series. Now it looks like Pakistan’s turn to get whitewashed at the hands of England if the fourth match also goes the same way as its predecessors.

England Bowlers Bowled Well But Were No Terror

Pakistan, batting first, lost quick wickets. A resurrection act was performed by the former captain Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal. Both of them scored half centuries and put up a good partnership. Had this partnership not come, Pakistan would have collapsed for a double digit figure and Pietersen would have lost a chance to score a century. Afridi scored a quick fifty (55 in 51 balls) whereas Umar Akmal took nearly double that time in his painstakingly crafted innings (50 off 92 balls). Stuard Broad and James Anderson bowled well and looked impressive. But I don’t think they presented such a terror to the batsmen to warrant a collapse.

Inconsistent Performances

England now looks like completing the whitewash and set to win the final match of the series. Can one praise this English side for this wonderful performance? Well, English cricket has been experiencing the wheels of fortunes. Last summer England whitewashed India in both the Test and one day series. But in the domestic one day series, it was India’s turn to pay back England in the same coin. Then England lost all the tests against Pakistan. Now England is once again on top. Inconsistency on the part of England deters one to present complements to the side for its performance. One cannot say that England will not be whitewashed in its next series.

Who Is The Real World Champion?

But England alone cannot be faulted for this kind of inconsistent performance. All the teams in the world with the exception of South Africa perhaps are experiencing this phenomenon. Australia looked like it was at the top of the cricketing world after it completed a clean sweep against India. But now it is struggling to hold on its own and has been battered like a baby by the less fancied Sri Lankan batsmen. India won the World Cup but lost all the one day matches and tests against England. Therefore it is difficult to make predictions and praise or criticise a team at present. Which side is the real world champion in tests of one day cricket or T-20 is difficult to say.
