Free Basketball Clipart

Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a physical education teacher at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. The first basket was a peach basket, however one problem was that the basket retained its bottom so balls had to be retrieved manually after each "basket". Later a small hole was put in the basket so the ball could be poked out from below with a stick.

The peach baskets were used until the early 1900s when they were replaced by metal hoops with backboards and the game evolved to the game we know today.

The free basketball clip art includes basketballs and backboards and a combination of the two.

Thanks. Some of this will be useful. By the way, here is a question for you. Basketball players used to be referred to as cagers quite commonly. Why?
