I Went to the Los Angeles County Fair..............and I Saw.......i Saw

Updated on August 30, 2013

The fair was here and is gone

I'm so sad......................the Los Angeles County Fair is gone for another year. Oh, but I had fun. I saw...................I saw, and I saw, (do you see how excited I was),so many of my favorite things. I saw FOOD, FOOD, AND MORE FOOD. I saw animals, I saw, exhibits, demonstrations, games, new technology, horticulture,so many things that I can't boil them down to words, but most of all I saw PEOPLE, oh did I see people. The Los Angeles County Fair is ranked the largest county fair in North America by the International Association of Fairs, and I can totally agree, because, I would venture to say, I saw millions, well at least hundreds of thousands of people each time I went. I only went six times this year. I usually try for a minimum of 8, maximum of 10, of course I've gone less. The perpetual "Fair," child in me has begun my countdown for next year.

Oh The Food At The Los Angeles County Fair

One of my favorite things to do is eat, and eat I did. I ate barbecued turkey legs, curly fries, barbecue, roasted corn, (yum), lemonade, always from "Hot dog on a Stick," the best lemonade at the fair. I also had a funnel cake every time that I went, and, oh yeah, the Texas style cinnamon bun. I have this ritual..............as soon as I get to the fair, I get my turkey leg, curly fries, and lemonade, then I go to see the spas, and I move on. I don't know why I do it that way, but I haven't deterred from that routine for years. I haven't done the barbecue for years, but on one of my visits I went with some friends that wanted barbecue and we had it, needless to say, the next time, I went back to my turkey leg. Oh I forgot to mention they came up with new foods this time, one is "chocolate covered bacon," yes, I said bacon. Also something else that's been on the menu for awhile is "Pork Chops on a stick ." I'm sitting here now salivating, thinking about the food. But I've got to get over it, because I won't see the likes of it again until next year this time. Now get this I don't even eat french fries, under normal circumstances, but the fair mesmerizes me and I eat things, that I would not ordinarily eat. Okay, okay so I put on a few pounds, so what, I'll lose them, or not.

My fair photos, please take a look

Miscellaneous

I did something that I haven't done in a long time. I played games in the midway. I did something that I always do and that is go over to the Fairview Farms to see the animals. This year they had a different setup. There was a maternity barn, where a whole host of animals were expecting, and some had already given birth, now that was fascinating. They also had something else different this year, it was a trip back to the olden days. In that part of the park, they had an old school house, barn, livery stable, general store, etc,(no pics, sorry), I got a picture of the oldest Bible not in the Smithsonian. I could go on and on. Can you see my excitement? I was totally like a kid in a candy store each time I went. My friends make fun of my excitement. Oh yeah, my daughter bought me a season pass, and it completely paid it for itself. This is the first time in years that I haven't gone by myself, but it was still fun. I usually like to go alone, because I like to stand and study some of the exhibits. Now even with seeing all of these things, it was only about 75% of what there was to see and do.

I Saw The Los Angeles County Fair through different eyes

I decided to do the Fair different this time. Because I'm writing articles, I decided to get to know some of the vendors. In years gone by I use to see the vendors through the eyes of the products that they presented. However this year I even, dare I say made a few friends..............Like, Marilyn. Marilyn(Royal Reflections), sells hair from, India and everyone knows that's the best hair for wigs and weaves. Marilyn is also a hair stylist. Her card says that she specializes in hair replacement. I can say from what I saw she does very good work. I want to point out that I have included photos of my Fair experience, so please click through and see through my eyes how good the fair was.

One of my favorite people was a lady from a company name STARFIBER, selling something that I go to the fair for every year, and that is cleaning supplies. If I buy nothing else, I buy cleaning supplies. And this year was no exception. Charlene, (I think her name is), was selling a product called STARFIBER. This is one of those mop products that is a dry, wet, dust mop thing. Now I bought this mop over 10 years ago, but I didn't know what to do with it. Charlene explained it so well, that I bought replacement parts. Oh yeah I'm a pushover. I'm a sucker for cleaning supplies and nice people, and not necessarily in that order. Remember I wrote a hub, I LOVE TO CLEAN, so it's not hard to believe.

I saw jewelry of all descriptions. I met Donna Welch of Cookie Lee Jewelry, beautiful stuff. They do home parties, which I think that I will be doing one soon. Oh, and you've got to see the jewelry from a place called Flagstaff Traders out of Moreno Valley, Ca. They not only had Turquoise jewelry, but a host of other colors, you've just got to see the colors, as you click through the photos take a look at the colors. Yes and furniture, these are people that I've seen numerous times, but for some reason I'm drawn back to their booths. One is Luie Kona, of (Hermosa Design Center out of Hermosa Beach), who's been at the fair for over 40 years and is retiring and leaving the business to his children, hate to see him go, but I will be back to his booth over and over again. Another one is Furniture Trends West, beautiful oak furniture.

I saw Sewing Machines that does everything, but get up and dance. I'm serious, all you have to do is program it and stand back and watch. One of the vendors at the Moore's booth gave me a demonstration. Again as you flip through the photos you'll see them.

Have you ever been to a county fair?

It's all over until next year

So now it's all over until next year. So if you are in or around Los Angeles California, USA, 2010 around September, stop on by. I guarantee you will have the time of your life. I took people this year that had never been before, and they too were hooked, some even returning a second time. In my hub Why I love Southern California, I list the L. A County Fair as one of the reasons. I would even suggest that you make this time of the year a time to visit Southern California, so that you can take in the fair. Believe me it's nothing like you've ever seen before, well that's my opinion.

So even though it's over I will live vicariously through my photo, and so can you, enjoy.
