IPL V – King’s XI Punjab Vs Rajasthan Royals

Australian Batsmen Collectively Fail

Dream Start for Rajasthan Royals

Rahul Dravid began a dream start in the only version of cricket that he is playing now. His side Rajasthan Royals started the IPL season with a victory over King’s XI Punjab (KXIP) yesterday at Jaipur, its home ground. In the process, its batsman Rahane scored a near century. He was just out for 98. The Trinidad lad Kevon Cooper joined Rahane to make his side win the match handsomely. Rahane plundered the KXIP bowling without taking any undue risk at the same time.

Australian Batsmen Collectively Fail

In the end, the margin of victory was only 31 runs. After Rajasthan Royals put up a sterling total of 191 for 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, I thought that they would win by a wide margin. My belief got confirmed when the KXIP wickets fell at regular intervals. Adam Gilchrist promised only to disappoint and exited for 27 runs. Valthaty, Marsh and others departed. Mandeep tried to salvage some prestige by hitting 34 runs off 25 balls with five boundaries. KXIP managed to score160 for nine wickets. Had the Australian players Gilchrist, David Hussey and Marsh succeeded, KXIP could have pulled off a wonderful victory. But collectively all the three of them failed, gifting away the match to Dravid.

Rahane Demonstrated That It Is Possible To Play a Perfect Innings in T20

The partnership between Dravid and Rahane built the base for the team’s victory. The crowd in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur applauded and appreciated both of them as they carried on their task with dedication and determination. Whether Praveen Kumar bowled not too well or the Rajasthan Royals batsmen were able to hit him out with their batting skills was not clear. Rahane demonstrated to the world that it is possible to play a perfect innings in a T20 match without making any mistake even under pressure. Rahane was a failure in last season’s IPL and he made up that in the opening match itself. There was no surprise that Rahane was declared the man-of-the-match. Rahane committed the only mistake of his innings when he tried to cross bat a shot and was out just two runs short of his well deserved century.

Dream IPL Debut By Cooper

Kevon Cooper bagged four wickets, giving away just 25 runs. Cooper also held two catches. He dropped a catch offered by Adam Gilchrist which was a difficult one. But luckily that did not cost Rajasthan Royals as Gilchrist departed soon after. Ironically Gilchrist was consumed by Cooper who made no mistake this time. This was Cooper’s debut in IPL and he made the best use of it. Adam Gilchrist is a great hitter and number one entertainer of the crowd. Indians love his batting and also his smiling face. There are some Australian players Indians do not like. For example Indians hate Mitchell Johnson who stated that he wanted to break the ribcage of Virender Sehwag. Indians do not like Jeff Thomson, Denis Lillee and Greg Chappell. But everybody likes Gilchrist. In fact when Gilchrist got out, the huge crowd in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur were disappointed. I hope Gilchrist will strike his true form sooner and give a thrill to the Indian spectators.
