IPL V – Mumbai Indians Vs Pune Warriors

Unbelievable Defeat For Mumbai Indians

Unbelievable Defeat For Mumbai Indians

It was unbelievable IPL cricket. Mumbai Indians, who had exhibited a good show just recently in the opening match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai caved in under pressure to the not so fancied Pune Warriors. But Pune Warriors deserve all appreciation for the way they handled the match. It was Pune Warrior’s bowling that decided the match in their favour. In batting, except for Robin Uthappa and Steve Smith, there was little to talk about. Lasith Malinga bowled well in both the spells. Nobody crossed 40 runs in Pune Warrior’s innings. In fact during the entire match, no player touched 40 runs. It was reminiscent of the World Cup final in 1983 between India and West Indies when the top scorer was Kris Srikkanth with 40.

Mumbai Indians Collapsed Like A Pack Of Cards

130 is not the best of targets to set in an IPL match. But it proved sufficient for Pune Warriors. Mumbai Indians openers Richard Levi and Ambati Rayudu were known for their batting prowess. Levi in fact had just completed a half century in the opening match against CSK. But surprisingly the top batting order of Mumbai Indians collapsed. At one stage the scoreboard read five runs for the loss of three wickets. Franklin and Dinesh Karthik tried to salvage the Mumbai Indians but it proved to be insufficient. In the end Pune Warriors won the match by 28 runs.

Yuvraj Singh Was Missed

It was sad that Yuvraj Singh was not present in the Pune Warriors team. Last year during IPL, Pune Warriors were led by Yuvraj Singh who developed cancer subsequently. He has completed his treatment in USA and one hopes that Yuvi will be back in the team soon. For Pune Warriors, Dinda did a good job bagging four wickets for 18 runs. Steve Smith was declared man-of-the-match.

Sachin’s Absence Was Felt

It appears that Sachin Tendulkar’s absence has affected the Mumbai Indians. Had Sachin been present, he could have made a difference to the outcome. Sachin was retired hurt while batting in the earlier match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. It was reported that he was suffering from dehydration. One hopes that Sachin will be back in the side for the next match to entertain the crowd. Pune Warriors had made a good beginning by winning their opening match and that too against a big team. They should sustain this momentum in the coming matches and capitalise on this.
