IPL V – Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Delhi Daredevils

RCB, A Formidable Team to Beat In the IPL

Crowd Got Their Week-End Entertainment

De Villiers and Muthiah Muralitharan ensured the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Delhi Daredevils in the IPL match yesterday at Bangalore. Muralitharan has retired, like Rahul Dravid, from all forms of cricket except IPL. Indian spectators are fortunate to see him in action. Even Muralitharan’s countrymen in Sri Lanka are not lucky to see their hero in action. Muralitharan is just nine days short of his 40th birthday. He gave away 25 runs to capture three of the Delhi Daredevils wickets to bowl his side RCB to a victory at the packed Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The crowd had thronged the stadium to enjoy their week end and got the entertainment to the fullest extent.

De Villiers Shines

Muralitharan would have loved to perform like this before the Colombo crowd but performing before the Bangalore crowd was all the more great and that too in the opening match of the IPL for the RCB. Earlier, when RCB batted, De Villiers made an unbeaten 64 to take the RCB total to a somewhat respectable 157 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. De Villiers made those runs off 42 balls with the help of six boundary hits and two sixes. One expected a lot from the seasoned Virat Kohli, but Kohli disappointed the crowd by scoring just 8 runs.

Oja and Finch Put Up a Fight

The organisers should have found difficult to choose the man-of-the-match between De Villiers and Muralitharan. Ultimately De Villiers got the award. Considering the margin of victory of 20 runs, De Villiers’ contribution assumes all the more significance. When Delhi Daredevils replied, Aaron Finch simply continued from where he left in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He whacked Zaheer Khan for three boundaries in the very first over of the match but Zaheer had the last laugh when he claimed the priceless wicket of Virender Sehwag for a duck. Naman Oja hit a six to signify some fighting spirit.

Irfan Pathan Tried To Repeat His Feat

But when Daniel Vettori, the RCB skipper, brought Muthiah Muralitharan after eight overs, the match turned in favour of RCB. Muralitharan secured the wickets of both Finch and Oja. Muralitharan’s first spell read 3-0-11-3. The damage was done and Delhi Daredevils never recovered from it afterwards though Irfan Pathan put up a dying fight. Irfan Pathan hit Muralitharan for a four and a six in his final over.

RCB, A Formidable Team to Beat In the IPL

RCB is well placed to win the IPL tournament. If Chris Gayle returns to the side after his fitness problems are over, RCB will be a formidable team for its opponents to defeat. If Virat Kohli, the superstar also strikes form, no team can approach the RCB nearer. But something in my mind keeps telling that the RCB will never win the current IPL tournament. I do not know the reason for my thinking as it is only an intuition.
