Better All-time, Kobe Bryant vs. Lebron James?

Kobe "Black Mamba" vs. Lebron "King James"

"Better all time, Kobe Bryant or Lebron James? Is Lebron better or is Kobe better? And are either Kobe or Lebron better than Michael Jordan? " These are topics that must be answered. A lot of discussion and arguments are listed here for you, and of course my opinion will be detailed.

Ever since Lebron James started to challenge the king of the jungle, Kobe Bryant, the same question has been coming up but has never been answered. Who is Better? Who will be better? And which one will be known as the best ever the play? Coming straight out of high school everyone knew James was the next big thing. "The one who can change history", people used to say. Setting records everywhere he went, everyone knew LeBron James would come out a huge star, but who thought he would be this good? All over the world this guy is being called "The King", in my opinion that explains enough. James will be in the league for many more years and the records will keep shattering, only one man stands in his way.

Kobe Bryant is that mysterious man, the guy who came off the streets and proved everyone wrong. Bryant is one of those players who makes the stadium shake and the fans get up on their feet. People buy tickets just to see this legend in progress play. It is pretty outstanding how well known this guy really is, he has billboards all around the world. And considering he is the only guy named "Kobe" its hard to even imagine this player will be forgotten. With all his rings and fame, no one seemes to be better than Bryant before James came along, but is he still the best or did James steal the title?

Lebron James Vs. Kobe Bryant

Air Born

LeBron James Rising 44" in the Air
LeBron James Rising 44" in the Air

Who is the Better Athlete?

Winner

LeBron James

Over the years LeBron James has shown extreme athleticism with his ability to literally fly through the air and make the basket look like a toy. LeBron James hands down has to be one of the most amazing athletes out there. LeBron had the choice to play either football or basketball, but given the choice I would go with basketball also. The reason for this is the damage football can really do to the body, and it also turns out James is not doing to shabby in the NBA. Yes, Bryant is a great athlete but James has the edge with his speed and "hops". James has the ability to jump 44" in the air and once ran a 4.4 40 yard dash. At 6'8 and weighing at 250 pounds, it almost sounds impossible, which is why James gets this one.

Mr. Clutch

Kobe Wins Another
Kobe Wins Another

Who is The Go To Guy?

Winner

Kobe Bryant

Bryant has proved himself in the league as one of the best go to guys ever. He has made a record breaking 4 game winning shots in the playoffs. Even though he is tied with LeBron with these playoff game winning shots, Bryant's percentage is 50% with these shots which is absolutely outstanding. Also as a more experienced player I would rather put the ball in Bryant's hands to win the game. Kobe has also proved he can win. The Lakers have been and always will be a dynasty, and a huge factor is because of Bryant's time with the Lakers. Bryant has 4 championship rings, while James is still struggling to win the big game. Even though James is younger and still has time, James just doesn't seem like the guy who can get the final job done. I do think James will eventually win a championship, but not four. In the end the ball goes to Bryant in the last 24 seconds.

Lebron James Blocked Shot

Who is The Better Team Player?

Winner

LeBron James

Many people might think Bryant has the team like characteristic in him, but James shows it on the floor. In the 2009 season James is not only recording about 30 points per game, but is also producing 8 assists per game. In 2008 James totaled 587 assists, his career high, and is on pace to beat that high with a predicted amount of 650 assists. He doesn't only get assists though, the guy is a defensive machine producing almost 2 steals per game and one blocked shot. LeBron knows how to play with the guys around him, and is why he helps a mediocre team like the Cavaliers make the playoffs every year.

Kobe is also a great team player, but he does have teammates that actually help out to win a ball game. Bryant has Gasol, Bynum, and the newly added Artest helping defensively and offensively. It almost sounds like an all star team. While Bryant is passing to guys who average double-doubles every game, James is passing to guys who can barely average 10 points. Which is why, on the floor, James is the better team-player.

Kobe Shooting

Kobe Bryant shooting over Dwayne Wade
Kobe Bryant shooting over Dwayne Wade

Who is the Better One-On-One Player?

Winner

Kobe Bryant

Kobe has proven himself to have one of the best shots in the game. He displays his shot with such ease and pose that it is literally impossible to stop. If teams get lazy and leave this guy open there will be a deep burn when they read the newspaper the next day saying he scored 81 points like he did against the Toronto Raptors. His percentages are threw the roof, making a three point shoot 35% of the time and stabilizing a shooting percentage of 50%. When Bryant gets hot the opposing team should save their self time and start the buses. Bryant is automatic and is sometimes described by critics as watching a video game because of how perfect the pro can really be. When a guy like Kobe is shooting over 7 foot guys and all that come out on the other side is a buttery swoosh sound you know he has to be one of the best to ever play the game.Of course James is a dominating offensive tool, and the Cavilers would love to have one-on-one matches with Lebron determine the game. But with Bryant shooting the way he does I'd call isolation all day.

Lebron vs. Kobe One on One

Who Is Better James or Bryant?

Winner

LeBron James

With James's ability to cut through the air, his outstanding athleticism, and his great team-work it is almost easy to say that he is better than Bryant. Bryant is a great player but the road is coming to an end for the future Hall of Famer. Bryant has the abilities to shot the game winning shot, win in a tight match up, and has the sweetest shot in the NBA, but all this stuff comes with time. LeBron James still has time to developĀ  that great shot, make determining shots, and learn how to get around and over guys.LeBron James has only been playing in the National Basketball League for 6 years now, and has already started to form these attributes that Bryant holds. James will just be getting better and better and soon take away Bryant's name as Mr. Clutch and having the perfect form shot, but the road is coming to an end for Bryant. Bryant will not be getting much better as the next couple of years approach. If anything Bryant's numbers will be falling because of older age, just as it did to Allen Iverson and the other greats players, its just natural. As I said before, James still has time and with this time he has James could become the best to ever play. Yes, even better than the almighty Jordan. Jordan and Bryant had guys to feed the ball too, and to help out on the court, James never had this. In 2009 James will get the chance to overcome this deprived situation when his contract runs out with the Cleveland Cavilers. A perfect place for James to go to increase his potential to be the best to play is New York, where they are desperate for a dominating guard and have solid post players like David Lee and Al Harrington. James has an extremely bright future and can conclude his career to be the best ever if played with better guys around him. For now he can be named as the better player in the NBA, but more importantly better than Kobe Bryant.

you bring up a lot of valid points, and i found your hub to be very informative and interesting to read. As i feel, you've given more of an in depth analysis of who is better between these two guys, than even some of the writers on ESPN and other sports sites.

Having said that though, I agree with you to an extent about LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, but not everything. I do agree with you completely about when you broke down who the better player was between them. However, none of them will ever compare to Jordan, nor will moving to New York make james career better.

Don't get me wrong, LeBron James is a great athlete, however, he's not a dominant scorer. if anything, his tendencies appear to be more like Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson, during their primes. Both great players, but they normally worked best doing a little of everything averaging close to triple doubles. Lebron seems to share a lot of those tendencies, so that's why i don't believe he'll be the next michael jordan. No doubt barring any kind of injuries, LeBron will win titles and become a future hall of famer. however, when i watch him play, he reminds me a lot of magic johnson and oscar robertson, more than jordan. mainly due to his tendency to be more of a triple double threat than a dominating scoring threat. although, i could be wrong, but im just calling it as i see it.

As for Kobe, he's a great player in his own right. I don't think there is a player that ever played like him. However, regardless of what anyone says, he's never been or will be considered better than jordan. Jordan for one couldn't be stopped offensively during play off series. Kobe has shown to been able to take over games, but Jordan dominated playoff series during his prime. Even in series where the bulls lost, Jordan couldn't be stopped. Where as when the Lakers lost, with kobe, he was stopped or at least slowed down. You couldn't do that to Jordan in a playoff series.

During the playoffs, when the bulls faced the celtics, during jordan's first year in the league, he scored over 65 points against the eventual champions, celtics. Sure the bulls lost that game, but the celtics couldn't stop michael jordan from scoring. even when he got older and came back into the league, after playing baseball for a short time, to lose to the magic in the semifinals, he still averaged close to 30 points a game during that series. the magic won that series, but they couldn't stop michael. plus, michael never played with the same level of talent kobe has been blessed with playing with over his career. seriously, outside of the bulls big three, "dennis rodman, scottie pippen, michael jordan" or "horace grant, scottie pippen, and michael jordan", during each of their 3peats, they had a lot of roleplayers but that's about it. plus, jordan never had a dominant center to play with either.

now lets look at kobe, sure during the playoffs when the Lakers win, he's always been dominant. However, in the finals, the two times he's lost, against the pistons and celtics, he was shut down. putting long arm defenders on him that contained kobe to minimal amounts of shots, specifically during the second half of the games. Heck, Paul Pierce and Tayshaun Prince contained Kobe in those finals, when he lost, and they were hardly the caliber of players that tried to guard Jordan, during his prime. During the Lakers first three titles with Kobe, they benefitted from having the most dominant center of his generation, Shaq. Shaq was not only strong, but he was quick too during his prime. Therefore, you saw a lot of triple and double teams on shaq, that would allow Kobe to get open a lot. However, when they met a savy Detroit Pistons team, Larry Brown didn't double team shaq like all the other teams did. Instead, they had everyone play one on one. Ben Wallace didn't stop Shaq completely, but he did take away a lot of rebounds from him. Thus taking away lot of the Lakers second chance points and more touches for the Pistons. As a result, Kobe got frustrated as you saw him take a lot more shots during the later games of that series, where it caused the pistons to narrow in on him. blocking and contesting almost every shot he took as they shut him down, to beat the lakers in 5 games.

Then you look at the finals 2 years ago, with the celtics. The Lakers were more of a finesse team, with a lot of promising young players like Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom. Plus, they still had derek fisher, whom is still deadly with his clutch shots. however, the celtics were a physical team and out muscled the lakers during every play and for every possession. the celtics dominated the boards during the series, so kobe got frustrated and took more shots again. however, that again allowed for the defense to shut down kobe as they narrowed in on him. causing him to get frustrated again. heck kobe even left the game in frustration too.

you never saw that with jordan. in fact, if you look at the second finals series with the bulls vs. jazz, there were games when the jazz shut down the bulls other players, but you never saw them shut down jordan. as jordan carried his team to victory, and with a cold no less too.

this is not to sound biased by any means, as i think both lebron and kobe are great players but they're never going to be better than jordan. jordan was ahead of his time like babe ruth, wayne gretzky, mahhamad ali, and tiger woods. Whenever Jordan stepped out on the court, EVERYONE knew who the best player was. and take in mind, he played against some of the best talent the game has ever seen too. it didn't matter if it was reggie miller, magic johnson, larry bird, allen iverson, isiah thomas, patrick ewing, joe dumars, karl malone, shaq, and even kobe, he always dominated their teams and outplayed them. Everyone knew he was the best player and there was no debate during his prime.

where as kobe and lebron, there's ALWAYS been a debate. during the times kobe played, people would wonder if shaq was a better player than him or bring up tim duncan or dwayne wade. Hell there's even debate right now between him and lebron, as you mentioned. therefore, there's no comparison.

oh and one more thing, as far as new york goes. have you looked at their record lately? they're one of the worst teams in the NBA, and are way over the cap, so James would have to settle for a lot less money to play for them. unless they can work out a sign and trade deal. anyway, sorry if i bored you with my opinion. lol. however, i just wanted to put my two cents in.

Thanks a lot for the comment. I defiantly can't disagree with you, but in the future James might step up his game. More experience always helps out, and over the years James's shot has been getting noticeably better and better. Yes, Jordan was without a doubt ahead of his time. But I have a good question for you. Do you think if James played during Jordan's era he would be better than Jordan?

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 7 years ago

That's a very good question. I don't think LeBron James would be better than Michael Jordan, but he would still definitely be a great player though. I do think that if you took the current Cavaliers roster and put them back into Jordan's era, I seriously doubt they would be able to compete.

I think it's kind of sad, that out of all the talent James has, the Cavaliers seem to can't get anyone outside of a bunch of has beens to play with him. which is kind of sad, so i agree with you completely about that part of your hub.

Oldskool903 profile image

Oldskool903 7 years ago Author

I find it sad also.

Well, I'm extremely excited to see where James will end up next year. And we will just have to see if that new team he ends up on can help improve James to be the next best thing haha

Stevennix2001 profile image

Stevennix2001 7 years ago

Yeah, I agree with that. lol. It'll be interesting to see where James lands. Personally, I would like to see him go to Chicago, because they already have a good roster with a lot of solid roleplayers. All they lack is a go to guy, and leadership. That's why I think James would be perfect playing in chicago.

Oldskool903 profile image

Oldskool903 7 years ago Author

Now that you bring those points up Chicago would be a perfect place. Wow, that would be weird, James having number 23 playing for the bulls and being questioned as better or equal to Jordan. Haha, but James did say he his going to change his number so that's kind of a bummer. I personally would love to see him on the Knicks, mostly because I am a fan. But I also think he could play really good with David Lee in the post.

"Coming straight out of college everyone knew James was the next big thing. " this doesn't make sense since lebron didn't go to college and niether did Kcbe...but good post man

I'll pick Kobe as the better player, though LeBron certainly is one of the best of all time. To be fair, let's check out both after their respective careers have ended and then analyse the stats and make profound declarations. Thanks for the interesting sports hub. Later!

haha no problem

Now I can't wait to publish my Brandon Jennings hub, my personal favorite player in the NBA right now. Without a doubt I believe he will win rookie of the year, and down the road a definite Hall of Famer, if he stays healthy. Like I said before with LeBron, Jennings has the raw talent now he needs that Kobe experience

I've engaged in lively discussions about the strength of the NBA in different eras, but I won't get into that tonight. I believe Jordan was better than Bryant and James also, but I also consider his championship run to be during a relative down period in the NBA. Great players were on their way up and great players were on their way down, but no one was out there to truly challenge MJ and offer a foil for the "who is better?" debates.

In Kobe vs. James, I give a slight edge to Bryant for one reason--Bryant doesn't just want to win, he wants to kill you. That's how Jordan played, as well.

Having said that, I enjoy watching James more. I like his game and he seems like a better guy somehow. I realize he is one scandal away from joining Bryant in the tainted reputation column (Tiger knows how that feels now), but he seems like a good guy. His athleticism is amazing and he is relatively young, as well.

Good hub with excellent analysis, thanks for sharing!

jonhy beck 6 years ago

all I have to say is this is a great hub. I agree with the fact that Lebron will have a better future, very contriversal though. Although this may be true, you gotta give the award to Kobe, you even said it yourself about how Kobe is the most clutch guy in the league. If you can make the big shots your the bigger player.

Michael Jordan 6 years ago

This is just another Lebron James ass kissing article in a long line of them. I forget who has four championships, oh that's Kobe, and who hasn't gotten dunked on by a high school kid? Oh that would be Kobe again, and then who is the best game closer and game changer, not to mention more mature and not prone to dancing during games? Oh once again Kobe. Lebron is a whiny little bitch who has no place in the NBA , let him go on tour with the and 1 crew, he fits in better there.

Michael Jordan 6 years ago

Oh and for all you nay sayers, Kobe is better than Jordan, hands down, im sorry. get mad all you want, I have great respect for MJ, but when was the last time jordan played with two injured fingers and scored 42? never happened. and when did he ever, and i repeat, EVER score 81 points? it didn't happen

John Smith 6 years ago

I totally agree with what you said here..in a way. I think that at this point in time, Kobe hold the mantle of the best player in the league. However, Lebron is nipping at his heels. Lebron will far surpass the legend of Kobe and here's why. He has the exact same quality that made Jordan not only an impossible force to be dealt with alone, but the bulls unstoppable. He makes those who play with him better. He is on a team of nobodies, yet he carries them on his back year after year after year. For his sake, I hope he leaves Cleveland and ends up with a team that will give him any sort of supporting cast. He will become that force, like Jordan was. Remember, Jordan didn't win a title until his 8th year in the league. James is in #6.

Give him time.

And to the guy who says that Bryant is better than Jordan was...you're an idiot and I will show you one reason that is unarguable:

The Bulls 3-peat once. Jordan leaves and they can't do anything. They barely play .500 ball the second year he is gone (until he came back). Then he comes back and they 3-peat again all with close to the same team. Kobe and the Lakers 3-peat with Kobe, Shaq, Fisher, Fox, and Horry. Then for four years they do nothing. They added Malone, lost Shaq and even got Phil Jackson, but he couldn't carry them the way Jordan did. Kobe isn't, and never will be, the same calibur of player as MJ. I'm not saying that Lebron is either, but he still has time to prove us wrong. Kobe is on his way out now. Sorry, but MJ is still King and no one has the same tenacity, skills or ability to rule every team in the league the way that Jordan did.

kobes a much better player than lebron because he has to work for his shots and makes the almost impossible shot. He's set records that people never thought would ever be set. Kobes the best player of this era and is in the top 5 best players of all time, lebron may get there some day but will never be as good as kobe

da_bizkid 6 years ago

Kobe is far more better than Lebron everyone is looking at his cool dunks and overlooking the challenge Kobe had to get to where he's at now with the Lakers defying all odds that was surrounding him even with the Colorado issue haha but as far as skills and basketball talent and wins and championships that should speak for itself and if Kobe as started his rookie year none of these KOBE vs Lebron would not even be brought up. Lets say if Lebron play in western conference would he be as good I dont think so

boy this hub bogus lebron ass suck like hell when will dude get a ring? i think never as long as kobe is in the league he can give up his dreams and as i recalled kobe put lebron on lock everytime they play lebron willl never be like kobe that why they compare kobe to jordan and not lebron, and if kobe was as big as lebron kobe would be the real deal look at lebron if he wasn't that big he would be a regular guy remember carmello in high school yeah check those games out who was getting put in the basket on a bad day kobe can give anybody a cool 20 points. I believe Lebron is a lot better than kobe. Not taking anything away from kobe, he has an excellent shot especially in clutch situations, but lebron has the ability to get the entire team involved. an area i feel kobe is a little weak in.

oldskool903, lebron was born with his god-given amazing physical ability, but he is nowhere near the mental capacity that kobe has. lebron has yet to prove himself worthy of becoming classified as an al-time great. he still needs to mature and learn other aspects of the game besides driving, dunking, and showboating. i mean... come on... the elbow?? was that even news worthy? he pulled a ginobili there. but all of ESPN and yhe lebron-loving media followed his hour-to-hour update on his elbow. the cavs is actually a great team, and it is true tahat the media hailed them throughout the regular season with no complaints about the supporting cast until they choked in the playoffs..

Well let me put it like this. Lebron is good player no doubt about that. He plays the game well but hes still a student of the game. There are little things he does which leaders do not do. When they were getting ran up in by the celtics, you could see it on his face, he gave up. Im a laker fan, and i watched kobe grow up to be what he is now which is GREAT...better than jordan..HELL YEAH. Ive been laker fan since the 80s. So ive been through the ups and down when they werent getting the titles and losing in the playoff. To me kobe is better than jordan. And everytime i say that people say, your crazy. I say why isnt he, they say cause he got 6 rings. Kobe is 2 away from the feature. So he'll have that by the time he retires. Way better shooter than jordan mid range and 3 point range. The 3 point line is like a free throw shot to him. His 3 point line is at the logo by half court. His game is so smooth. Footwork is out of this world. You'll see him do a move just by moving his feet and your reaction is, you can do that, did you see that, that was sick, that boy aint no joke,or the one i like to say is, hes better than jordan. Lebron is good player but all he does is dunk.jumper is okay. man to man defense he doesnt have. But he will catch you from the back though. He wont give up on a play like that, but he gave up when the celtics tapped that bootey. But the reason kobe is the best is because he puts in the work. Ive seen him get better year by year. Always something new with him. I remember he didnt have a jumper at all. Now hes got one of the best jumpers in the game. Leave him open you might as well start running back to set up on offense. Hes become a leader for the team not just him now. I use to get on him about being selfish and not passing the ball. Trying to dribble through 5 people, pass the dam ball kobe, those were my words. But hes become the best, if not one of them. Lebron has to put in the work just like kobe did..So we'll see..Kobe gets number 5 and 6 for the 3peat then what..He did it the same way jordan did..if not better...So why isnt kobe better than jordan or lebron? before anybody answers do your homework first. By the time kobe retires he'll have better numbers and the same amount of titles if not more...THANK YOU GUYS FOR READING PEACE OUT

I think Lebron is the best because he will score aton of points then the lakers cant come back from thirty point lakers suck!

Scarfo 6 years ago

I grew up near Kobe and around the same age as him and believe me when I say Kobe is and was not unknown. I do not need to know much about "The King" to know he is not a better athlete then Kobe. Let me add that no matter how many rings Kobe wins he will never be better then MJ or Bird. A Legend is a Legend once that status is reached then there is no who was better because there will be no other. Kobe has reached Legend status, I do not like Kobe his attitude growing up in the NBA at times can make anyone furious but the fact is Kobe Bryant has earned his spot as one of the Legends in the NBA that can not be argued. Lebron still has his time to put in raw talent does not make you a legend. ie. and point Mike Vick, what about Allen Iverson, AI was one of the most amazing athletes to step on the floor, every game was like David vs. Goliath but he did not make the Legend cut. Right now Lebron is is on the fence, he better hope Miami works out for him otherwise his chances of being remembered as a Legend are over. Sorry for Grammer. lol

It seems after reading the Lebron fans talk about his talent over Kobe may not remember or even realize the Kobe Bryant went into the NBA right out of Highschool how much more talent is that? I think the comparison even though for fun is an insult to Kobe, also @ Dario same go's with Kobe and M.J, M.J paved the road and there would be no Kobe with out M.J records are made to be broken and I would hope ability and athleticism would evolve because of sports medicine alone. I end on same point a Legend stands alone. Its not all about the numbers its a package of which Lebron has not acquired yet, just the ingredients.

LOL ITS FUNNY HOW LEBRON IS BEING COMPARED TO SOMEBODY LIKE KOBE WITH 5 RINGS?

LeBron, sorry to say, even with his "Dream Team" down Miami he cannot be better than Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant. His character proved to be weak, giving up on Cleaveland when they needed him most, he's not a fighter, he believes in running away, the killer instinct certainly "The Black Mamba" does not lack. I don't see a title in LeBron's career, especially now, he's given up his kingdom to serve in the palace belonging to Dwayne Wade and why is that..."The Black Mamba" LeBron knows he does not possess the talant, composure, nor killer instinct to battle him...Remember, when all was looking grim in L.A Kobe remained, he was confident enough and believed he was good enough that a team could have been constructed around him, and DAMN!! he couldn't have been more correct... LeBron's stats are going to dwindle in the up-coming season, it's only logical because now he has with him two other guys that are going to be demanding the ball and for whom plays are going to be drawn up for. But i am anxious because LeBron, Wade and Boshe on the same team, if the chemistry does not exist really will make for great comedy viewing... Whilst the "Black Mamba" moves onto ring number six... By the way if i am ever really to entertain a convo. as to who is really better between Kobe and LeBron, i'll do that after LeBron wins his first ring. (guess that's one convo. i won't be having)

Kobe is a way better basketball player than lebron hands down. He can shoot better and has better footwork and more weopans to score with.

I agree with Angel. Kobe is far better than Lebron. Kobe has demonstrated that he is a winner, go to guy and intelligent player. Lebron has demonstrated that he is EXTREMELY athletic (freakishly athletic). But his intangibles are questionable. So Kobe is the guy right now. Lebron will eventually be better....I think...

Nice, interesting Hub. I really like how you've laid it out. But one more question, what do both want more than anything else in the world? Championships. Who has the most (the only)? Kobeeeeeeeee

john 6 years ago

you guys are idiots.miami did it with d.wade and shaq(on his way out). now we have bosh.(fresh). we can do it without james. but with james its a done deal. jus joe. your a retard! for saying something like that.lbj WILL wear a ring as a matter of fact. a few rings.+ kobe is old and nearing the end of his career.james just started his 6 years ago.black mamba loses all its venom against lbj.wade and bosh. hell, he will probably do what he always does and cry to his team mates" you guys arent helping me".lmfao.

john 6 years ago

btw. for the idiots that say kobe has more rings. count the years hes been in the league.and count the years he has left. now count the years lbj has been in the league( with a mediocre team). and how many he has left( on a badass team) it will surprise you to realize that. lbj WIll end his career with possibly more rings than even m.j. not comparing the 2 players just saying.i know d.wade will.do the math guys. lets put kobe in cleveland and see what happens.i can guarantee .NOTHING. a sorry ass team worse than when lebron was there. since kobe is a ball hog.that's it.2011+ champions= miami HEAT

mat paris bistro 5 years ago

Rings talk, BS walks. Where's Miami?

Recycledwaste 5 years ago

These guys are elite NBA superstars. Kobe has proved his skill and determination to win, with five rings to prove it. The defending champion Lakers are off to a dismal start this season but are definitely in contention for another championship. Lebron is still playing high caliber basketball in Miami and is reigning MVP for the past two years. Definitely out of contention for MVP this year after signing with Miami but the Heat are coming into their own after a slow start. Miami still lacks size in the post and that might very well be their downfall in the post-season. As far as who is the better player? Kobe Bryant hands down. The more mature, complete, smoother player there is no question that without Bryant there is no championship in Los Angeles. Without Lebron, Cleveland is back to where they were when they drafted him, at the bottom of the standings. It's interesting to speculate what would happen in Miami without Lebron, they might even have a better shot than with. Lebron is still young and will get his shot in the next few years, after Kobe slows down and retires. Oh yeah and by the way, John? Did you forget there are about I don't know 4 teams in the East with the power to put an end to the Heat experiment? Let's see what Chicago, New York, Boston and hmmmm I don't know ORLANDO? Come on you think Miami is the only team that made huge trades this season? You're a sucker for publicity and there's still half a season to play. Moron. But for argument's sake, Kobe is the better player just based on experience alone. Lebron is a beast, Kobe's the beauty. The only way we'll now who is the greater player is at the end of their careers. Lebron has the potential just not the leadership or maturity Kobe has gained. As of today Kobe is by far the better player. I really thought the hub was mediocre, like Lebron's only final appearance. You should have based you're comparisons off of something more concrete. One on one? Team player? Athleticism? Clutch? Kobe in his prime was one hell of an athlete. And one on one? Two different types of players at two different positions. Team player? He's lead his team to five championships. Clutch? Psh.

I think kobe is much better than lbj. Lbj is only good in dunks.

Lebron is better and it's not even close.

Over the past three seasons Lebron has averaged more points

over the past three seasons Lebron has averaged more rebounds

over the past three seasons Lebron has averaged more assists

over the past three seasons Lebron has shot a higher field goal percentage

over the past three seasons Lebron has shot a higher Three point percentage

over the past three seasons Lebron has had a higher PER rating, a higher defensive rating and higher effeciency rating.

Lebron has won 2 MVP's already, Kobe has 1. Lebron finished 2nd in defensive player of the year award in 2009 and Kobe never finished that high.

Lebron and Kobe have played eachother 14 times and Lebron has won 9.

Lebron is the better player in the fourth quarter of games. Lebron is better in the clutch contrary to popular belief. Lebron is better in the playoffs. SOURCE for all of this is here: http://lebronjameskobe.blogspot.com/2010/09/statis...

The ONLY argument is that Kobe has 5 rings except the problem with that argument is that Kobe has obviously had WAY better teamates. Kobe shot only 8 for 24 in game 7 of the finals last year and his team still won. The Lakers were 5-0 without Kobe last year. Kobe had Shaq. After Shaq left, Kobe didn't even make the playoffs the year after...then he lost in the first round two years in a row and went to the media and asked for a trade. Then they got Pau Gasol and won championships. Kobe didn't even shoot over 50% in the last two NBA finals yet his team still won. Kobe has had great teamates. Lebron is a better player.

Lebron has 16,169 career points at 26 years old...Kobe was 29 years old when he reached that many. Lebron James is a better player period.

handyman62 5 years ago from Newport News,Virginia

I would rather have James than Bryant for the following reasons,Better Athlete, better defender, much better passer.I cannot say James is better than Bryant career wise with all Kobe has accomplished, but James has a long career ahead of him.

Lebron James is the first man since the big"0"who can put up triple doubles at will, think of this,Dirk Nowitski has had two triple doubles in his career.Great article enjoyed reading it

yall nigga hating of Lebron and tht Michael Jordan u need 2 clam tht shit down i kno this all late and shit but if u think about probably play better then u haters this days wow smh i pick my best basketball player Lebron ily

Bball 24/7 5 years ago

I think Lebron is better. You make great points, but kobe has never shot better than 50% in his career which is longer than Lebrons. There is no doubt Lebron is better. Rookie of the year: Lebron:yes Jordan:yes Bryant:no lebron started off strong like Jordan who are two outstanding players

Mikedomes 5 years ago

if lebron.works on his shot he will be top5 players all time. Kobe.isn't really a team players and crys to much....lets compare when shaq left lakers missed the playoffs ....hmm lebron played with a bunch of loosers and got to the playoffs every year and finals once. .kobe has a better shot but lebron is a better player!!!

justin johnson 5 years ago

I just want you all to know you are wrong here's a fact the things kobe has done in 8th lebron hasn't even reached........kobee is the youngest player to be on the nba defensive team, the youngest player to win a slam dunk champion, by his 8th year he owned the record do most 3 pointers made in a game, 7 consecutive all star appearences, most free throws made in one quarter, most three pointer made in one half, and the list is longer and longer i just dont feel like typing it look up kobe bryants achievements you'll probably shit in your pants when you see that list i mean kobe is one of the most amazing things seen in basketball......F.Y.I YOU GUYS SAY LEBRON CAN DO ALL THIS STUFF BUT CALL ME WHEN HE CAN DO IT IN THE 4TH QUATER

Ray Vincent 5 years ago

Hmm Lebron still cant win? He chokes peroid. You guys need to wake up. Were talking about KOBE BRYANT! EASILY ONE OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS TO EVER PLAY THE GAME! KOBE IS BETTER AND GREATER THAN LEBRON

the fact that Kobe at 6'6 is a better low post player than Lebron speaks volumes to who is the better basketball player. Kobe is way older than Lebron so yes he is th ebetter athlete now, Kobe is a better shooter, better freeshooter better clutch shooter lebron passes the ball more often but only records assist or two more a game andonly one rebound more a game despite being 2 inches tallers and 60 lbs heavier lol this articles is a joke lol

Anonymous 4 years ago

this is all opinion so who ever wrote this article obviously favours lebron.and yes i do favour kobe. but until they play head on you cant say whose better and even if they do play head on. they're better than the other at different lvls and skills.

Because you forgot to ask the question.

Who has the rings?

Kobe Bryant.

kobe and lebron i think kobe is better because he almost makes buzzbeaters at the right time lebron only dunks he barely even shot threes kobe is the best player in the nba.

hes just the best player in the nba born none he has an assasines mentality born none. lebron is wack author your a bitc

Nick 4 years ago

Kobe is far better than LeBron. Have you seen LeBron James play in the fourth quarter since he lost in the finals vs. San Antonio? I haven't. LeBron is the most overrated player in the NBA and he isn't even the best player on the Heat. That would be Dwyane Wade. Nice try buddy.

Golden child 4 years ago

This is all very bias it's obvious your more of an Lebron fan. I've noticed you said rings doesn't matter which every Lebron fan says but I bet when Lebron wins his first ring you guys will exaggerate on his earning. On the other band Kobe was very athletic his early making un blockable dunks . As you can tell I'm definitely a kobe fan . It's one thing to give good fact and it's another to favor a player. Don't get me wrong Lebron is a great player but you have to remember rings will always show greatness and that's definitely a fact.

kobecan beat lebron james pluse he a pro and was playing befor lebron so yea. im 11 and i sad that kobe bryant is better than lebron james

KOBE ALL DAY lbj isn't clutch at all kobe can hit the toughest shots lbj cant kobe has amazin footwork lbj dosent kobe has great agility lbj is just big nd fast while kobe utilizes what he has kobe is called the scoring master why? because name a place in the court he knows how to score from there nd all the oh rings who cares well what's an nba players dream to win nd to win finals who cares how good u r in regular season mvp crap id rather win a title then win an mvp nd choke in the finals oh nd did u hear how every player even lechoke say kobe is the bet right now so idk id rather win a title then mvps nd kobe is better in the playoffs kobe only lost 2 finals well lbj is bout to lose 3 cuz okc is gonna win it in game 6 nd lbj will be 0-3 in the finals case closed kobe is better

Man oh man. I'm always a sucker for this debate although it's a mute point. We can't compare the two. James is the greater athlete for sure. But James is still too far away from Kobe's legacy that any argument will have to wait until James is in his twilight years. The argument became officially unfair this year. Kobe is still an elite NBA player but his days are numbered. James and the Heat will probably win the NBA championship. So James will have one. And when he does get it, whether this year or another, he'll still have a long way to go to measure up to Bryant. Just because a man's a physical beast does not make him the greatest. Bryant still has this one hands down.

The hubs seemed completely just and fair until the last assessment.

I feel you must have left the votes do the talking.

Deciding who's better is a subjective topic and everyone would have a different opinion.

To be honest James is good but kobe is great
