London Olympic Games 2012: Women's Tennis Final
One more gold medal for the United States! Serena Williams won Maria Sharapova in the final of Olympic singles tennis tournament.
30-year old American who is currently ranked fourth in WAT, won over 25-year old Russian - 6:0, 6:1.
The first set was confidently won by Serena. During the second set Maria managed to win one game. The match was just 1 hour and 3 minutes long.
Serena showed 10 aces, 2 double faults, 7 unforced errors and 24 winners. Maria had 1 ace, 5 double errors, 10 unforced errors.
It is the third gold medal for Serena Williams, though first in singles. She was an Olympic champion in Sydney-2000 and Beijing-2008 in doubles (with her sister, Venus). Venus earned her single gold medal in 2000. And the Williams sisters still have chance to earn another gold in doubles.
In the bronze medal battle, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won over Russian Maria Kirilenko - 6:3; 6:4.
Looking forward for the men's final, where we'll see Roger Federer and Andy Murray. The battle for the bronze will be among Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro.
