The Boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao - World's Greatest

Introducing Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao -- The world best fighter of his generation

This hub is dedicated to the man who give so much pride to his country -- The Philippines and his fellowmen -- the Filipino people. Dubbed by his promoter, Bob Arum as "The best fighter I have ever seen," including Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler. He is fondly called “Pacman” because he is like a lightning and his fast punches sow fear among his opponents.

Boxing is considered dead in the recent past, but not in this time when Pacquiao is still playing as Mark Kriegel (National Columnist for FOXSports.com) said “Actually, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that boxing isn't dead. Rather more astonishing is the identity of its latest, greatest savior: an undersized Filipino who barely speaks English”.

He is the only fighter who won in seven weight divisions in world boxing history prompting Matthew Syed (Sports Journalist of the Year and 2008 Sports Feature Writer of the Year) to say that he is “the greatest boxer and is among the finest and most ferociously gifted boxers to have laced a pair of gloves”.

Last Sunday (November 15, 2009) was another crowning glory to the much talked about Manny Pacquiao who took the boxing world at awe when he successively win all of his fights in seven different weight divisions. He knocked out Miguel Cotto on that day in 12th round, which prompted Cotto to say “I couldn’t attend such conference because I needed to be checked by doctors but I wanted the media to know I fought the best fighter I ever fought."

From, Barrerra, Hatton, Marquez and now Cotto, he all won and fight like a true “Pacman“. Everybody in the boxing world is anticipating his fight next year to Mayweather which prompted Mark Kriegel to say “A match-up between Pacquiao and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr next year would not only be the richest bout in history, it would also make all other recent “super-fights” seem like irrelevant”. and he added that “the list of parties who've contacted promoter Bob Arum in hopes of hosting a mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather include the Yankees and the Mets, the Jets and the Giants, the Cowboys, a consortium of Nevada businessmen, and a former Presidential advisor“. Then there's Texas, with no state income tax, and a stadium that holds up to 111,000 for football. And don't forget Las Vegas, where Arum says he has a group willing to build a makeshift outdoor stadium to seat 30,000.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight next year will definitely be dubbed as "The Fight of the Century".

Greatness from a humble beginning

Manny Pacuiao's record in boxing is astounding, he has fifty five (55) total fights, 38 wins by knock out, three (3) losses and two (2 ) draws

Coming from a humble beginning and poor parents, Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978 in the southern part of the Philippines. He started his career when he is 16 years old and he never looked back. He is currently married and has four children.

As a boxer, he never underestimate his opponents and always respect them, but he always perform his best.

Part of his greatness is that his level headedness. There are a lot of tales that attest to the politeness and kindness of Pacquiao. He loves to help people and always gives back to them whatever money he earns from boxing. He helps people everywhere in his hometown and all those who asked for his help. He is considered a hero to his countrymen, and people looked up to him as a model of strength and humility. He is also considered an icon to the Filipino people because of his ability to unite all the political parties. It is true that when Pacquiao has a fight, the nation is in stand still and crimes is at its lowest, all people are glued to the television. The politicians are at peace with each other and forget politics for a moment. He unites Filipino people from all walks of life.

His mother attributes his winnings to the prayers she does every time her son fights and known to pray the whole time her son has a fight in the ring..

Credits to his name:

  • He is currently the number one pound por pound boxer in the whole world as rated by the Ring magazine
  • World Boxing Organization welterweight world champion
  • Ring Magazine Light welterweight champion
  • He is also the former World Boxing Council lightweight world champion
  • World Boxing Council super featherweight world champion

Having been the TV Producer for Heavy Weight Fights back to Floyd Paterson and Ali, I don't get excited about all the bouts that follow all touted as the World's Greatest. Our grandkids will hear the same hype. And, in a world where everyone seems to be hitting everyone else, what's one more bout. Organized or not. I'm not a fan. David Russell

Just been (drove by) by his house yesterday... and it still amazes me the heights he has reached. I, however, want him to retire. Mayweather is not really worth it. Hahahahaha!!! But if Mayweather doesn't cheat on his weight this time... then it would be a great fight. But Mayweather will never do that. He'll pay anything to get that extra weight. Ahahahaha!!! Great Hub this is...

hi, It is ok if he retires, it really depends on him, if he will fight with Mayweather, I really wish he wil win, even if he doesnt win, he is still the best fighter! YAY

Hi prettydarkhorse. Since the retirement of Sugar Ray Leonard from boxing, I have not kept up with what's happening in the boxing world. Rather I have been--upon Micheal Jordan's retirement from basketball--a avid golf fan, thanks to Tiger Woods. With Pacman on the boxing scene, I just might return to the boxing world. Not only is Pacman humble and likable--my wife by the way is Filipina that's how I learned about him--but also he is a great fighter!

Hi hubby7, good that you read this one too, surely your Filipina wife is a good one too, hehe, am biased to Filipinas, LOL, HE is really a good fighter, and still TIGER WOODS rocks,

I dont know if he will fight Mayweather this year,

Maita

Well written and great research done, great read, thanks.

The only thing is that Mayweather fans will continue to disagree, well not until May and Pac will face each other in the ring. And the sad truth is they may never will.

Well not unless boxing fans can tell them that May-no more demands and Pac-take the test.

Great Hub. As well as Manny there have been some great Filipino fighters like Flash Elorde and Pancho Villa and what of Nonito Donaire, he looks a bit special too. I guess it's exiting times for Filipino boxing.
