Micromax Asia Cup – Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka

Easy Victory For Pakistan Over Sri Lanka

One-Sided Match

Pakistan won the match against Sri Lanka in an easy manner without any tensions. I thought the match could produce excitement and thrill as both sides are evenly balanced. But in the end, Sri Lanka disappointed the fans and made the match totally one-sided.

Sri Lanka Missed The Chance

But at one stage, Sri Lanka could have even won the match inspite of its low score of 188. The Sri Lanka bowlers sent Pakistan reeling at 33 runs for three wickets at one stage. Had Sri Lanka capitalised on it, it could have made a sensational win and kept its chances to qualify for the finals. However, it allowed the Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq to develop a century partnership with Umar Akmal which clinched the issue in favour of Pakistan. By the time Akmal was dismissed for 77, it was too late for Sri Lanka.

Sangakkara And Tharanga Saved The Face Of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka could have won had it scored a huge total while batting first. Its batsmen were in form and one expected a good show by them. But wickets started collapsing one after the other. At one stage it looked doubtful whether Sri Lanka could even cross 150 runs. But luckily for it, Sangakkara and Tharanga engaged in a useful partnership. These two initially added runs at a slow rate but later on accelerated. In the end, the 188 runs scored by Sri Lanka proved to be insufficient against the recharged Pakistani batsmen.

Sri Lanka Are Practically Out Of Asia Cup

Now Sri Lanka are practically out of the Asia Cup. In theory, Sri Lanka can still make it to the finals provided three things should happen. First India should lose to Bangladesh tomorrow by a wide margin. Second, Pakistan should defeat India in Sunday’s match. Third, Sri Lanka should defeat Bangladesh by a wide margin. Just few days back, Sri Lanka defeated Australia and sent India crashing out of the tri series tournament in Australia. Now the wheels of fortune have turned the other way. Tomorrow India is going to defeat Bangladesh to send Sri Lanka crashing out of the Asia Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar And Malinga Should Regain Their Forms

One important point that is causing worry among the Sri Lankan team management is the ineffective bowling of Lasith Malinga. Till recently, Malinga was the Sri Lankan main bowler and he wrecked havoc in the opposition. Even a greater finisher like M S Dhoni could not do anything when Malinga bowled the last over in Australia recently. But Malinga has been battered by the batsmen in three or four matches in recent memory. If this is due to any injury or illness problems, then it could be okay. But if it is due to loss of form, then Malinga’s days are numbered in the Sri Lanka team. But Malinga has luck with him. He can effectively utilise the Indian Premier League (IPL) season in April in India effectively to recoup his lost form and energy. One likes to see Malinga in full strength. He is a delight to watch. I pray that Sachin Tendulkar and Lasith Malinga should be back into their original forms and entertain the fans for many more years.

It was quite interesting to read this hub than watching today's match. It was totally one sided, as you pointed out. Anyhow, let us hope for tomorrow's play. I hope India will win it and enter the finals for facing Pakistan. I also pray for Sachin's 100th ton in tomorrow's match.
