Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals

Unwise Attempt at Malinga’s Yorker

Pollard’s Explosion

Kieron Pollard’s brilliant all round performance won the match for the Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals in yesterday’s IPL cricket match at the Wankhade Stadium, Mumbai. Pollard hit 64 runs off mere 33 balls with six fours and four huge sixes. Ambati Rayudu was giving respect to every ball at the other end when Pollard exploded with the bat. By the time Pollard left, he had made sure that Mumbai Indians won the match already.

Shah Outwitted Pollard in Aggression

But inspite of Pollard’s innings, Rajasthan Royals made a brilliant attempt to steal the match notwithstanding early loss of wickets. When Rajasthan Royals was at 7 for 2, nobody gave it any chance. But Owais Shah and Rahane started counterattacking the Mumbai Indians bowling. They put up 82 runs third wicket partnership before Rahane left for 40 off 31 balls with four fours and two sixes. Those who saw Rahane hit the mercurial 98 in the previous match made up their minds to see such an innings once again. But Rahane was out off a ball from Pollard, consumed by Richard Levi. But even after Rahane’s departure, Shah continued his fireworks. He took the score to 134 before he was out for a well-made 76 off 42 balls with five fours and five sixes.

Unwise Attempt at Malinga’s Yorker

Shah unwisely attempted in Malinga’s third over to hit the first ball for a six, exposing his stumps. Malinga is famous for his Yorkers and had Shah played out that over without taking any risk, things might have gone in favour of Rajasthan Royals. But Shah unwisely sacrificed his wicket and put an end to Rajasthan Royals’ fighting.

Pollard, Man-Of-The-Match

Mumbai Indians put up 197 for six wickets thanks to Pollard’s fireworks. The first five batsmen contributed in double digits. Pollard took four wickets for 44 runs in his 4 overs. Pollard also took an excellent catch to dismiss Botha. Pollard’s fielding was athletic. He was awarded the man-of-the-match prize. At one stage Pollard was on a hat-trick. Munaf Patel also got four wickets for only 28 runs. But it was Malinga who got the priceless wicket of Shah that proved to be the turning point in the match. Had Rahul Drvaid put down his head and contributed with some useful runs, Rajasthan Royals could well have made that improbable win and continued their winning streak.

It was a good game. Both results looked possible till Shah was at the crease. Enjoyed the power hitting by Pollard and Owais.
