Nelson Evora won the Olympic gold medal in the men's triple jump on Thursday.

With a jump of 17,67 meters Nelson won the Olympic gold medal for the triple jump beating silver medalist Phillips Idowu by 5 centimeters.

After Fernanda Ribeiro gold medal at the Atlanta games Portugal gets another gold medal 12 years later.


Who is Nelson Evora


Evora was born in Ivory Coast but moved to Lisbon with his family when he was four. He became a Portuguese citizen in June 2002 having previously competed for the Cape Verde Islands. Evora decided to switch from high jump to long jump and triple jump after injuring his knee at the age of 15.

Nelson Evora √Čvora currently competes for Portuguese sports club S.L. Benfica.
