Planning For A Deep Sea Fishing Trip
Have You Ever Went Deep Fishing?
So You Want To Go On A Deep Sea Fishing Trip?
You might want to consider some things that you may encounter while you are on that trip. Planning ahead is always a good idea before you go on a deep sea trip. Here are some tips for you that just might help you plan for the next time you decide to head out to sea and try for the next big bite.
Check The Weather Forecast
First thing I definitely recommend doing is checking the weather forecast for that time frame that you are planning to go out for. You can check if it is going to be a nice sunny day or if it is going to be a windy and rainy day by looking at the forecast on the news or online. This can also help you plan out what you will need to wear. Remember the temperature can vary a lot from what it is on land. I would plan on it being anywhere from 5 to 20 degrees colder depending on the time of year and how far out you will be going. The further out you go out, the colder it will usually be.
Good Tip
You might want to check the tides and wave heights for that time frame if you check the weather forecast online. If you do this, it just might help you prepare better for the ride out and sea sickness. If you have never been, I do recommend taking something just in case you are sea sick if you can. Checking the wave heights and tides can also help you figure out what to bring on the trip and what you might catch out there.
Check Your Gear
The next step that I would recommend doing is checking out your gear. Now I know some boats have rod rentals, but if you are bringing your own gear on a party boat or on your own boat, it will help you in the long run to check it all. First, see what kind of fish you will be going for. This will help you figure out what you will need to bring and what can stay at home. This way you are not hurting yourself by bringing too much and if you are underprepared, you could lose the fish. You could possibly break your rod too. Another thing you should do when checking over your gear is to look over the conditions of your gear like rod, reel, line, and whatever else you might need. If you don’t, you might be dropping the line and then you run out right as you let it go. You can hook the big one and the rod just snaps. If you don’t check your gear, you pretty much end up with a fishermen’s nightmare.
What Are You Going After?
The third step would be to get to know what you are going after. This is one step that a lot of people tend to skip. If you can learn what fish you are going for, I would definitely try and look it up. Doing this can help you better prepare yourself for that fish that you are after. One big thing you want to find out is what that fish eats. If you do this then you can learn some tricks to what bait or jig to use. This can also help you find out how fast the fish is and what depth the fish will be at when it feeds. Another good reason to look up what fish it is that you will be targeting is so that you can find out the weight and size of the fish. This can play a big part in what you bring on the boat. I mean who want to be the person that’s going for little bait fish when the tuna bite is on.
Storing Fish
Finally you will want to think about how you will store any fish that you decide to keep. If you go on a deep sea trip, you most likely are going to be able to keep any legal fish that you catch. You might want to bring your own fish bucket. This is a great way to store the fish that you caught and not get them mixed up with the fish that other people have caught. Another thing that you will want is ice. Putting ice on the fish will help chill the meat of the fish until you get home. Just don’t forget to bleed the fish. Other than that, you should be good to go.
Now It Is Time To Get Out There!
Here are only a few tips out of the many I could give. I think they will help you out a lot the next time you choose to go out and tackle the great sea for the next big bite. Just remember the tips can only get you a shot at the fish. Catching the fish is all a matter of finding the one that wants what you are putting out there. But hey, like they say a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.
