Rocket Richard

 Maurice Rocket Richard was the most prolific goal scorer and well known hockey player of his time.  He remains today one of the best known Montreal Canadians and greatest hockey player off all time.  The Rocket played 18 seasons all withthe Montreal Canadians, during his career he was on 8 Stanley Cup winning teams.  One of Richard's greatest achievments was scoring 50 goals in 50 games during the 1944-45 season.  He was the first person to ever achieve this, only a handful of players have ever done this.  Despite Richard's success as a goal scorer he has only won the Hart Trophy (Most Valuable Player Award) once in his career in 1947.  Rocket Richard was known for his goal scoring and his toughness, he never backed away from getting into a scrum with other players.  He can be compared to other players like Gordie Howe and Brendan Shanahan because of their toughness and scoring ability.

Post Career

 Richard served as the head coach Quebec Nordiques during the 1972-1973 season for a very brief stint.  He wen on to serve as a goodwill ambassador to the Montreal Canadians in the 1990's, he was also recognized by the Hockey News as one of the top 100 NHL players of all time.  Rocket Richard passed away at the age of 78 in May of 2000.
