Marvellous Achievement

Marvellous Achievement

Sachin Tendulkar’s achievement of completing his hundredth international hundred is an achievement above par. No other player has even a fraction of a chance to equal this record. Sachin has been waiting for one year to achieve this feat. He scored his 99th century against South Africa during the last World Cup. Since then, there has been enormous pressure on his broad shoulders to complete this milestone for his country and for his fans. Now Sachin has done this. Every Indian’s heart goes towards Sachin for this marvellous feat of achievement.

Sunil Gavaskar Was Cunning and Played Politics

Sachin started playing cricket at the age of 16 in Pakistan. Sachin’s first series was Kapil Dev’s last series as Isaac Newton was born on the day Galileo died. Since then, Tendulkar has been carrying on for the last 23 years and looks ever younger. Age seems to have no effect on him. Fame and wealth have not gone to his head. Even now Tendulkar is ready to obey his captain and discharge his duty faithfully for the nation. India should reward his achievement by conferring on the greatest title Bharat Ratna on him. By honouring Tendulkar, India will be honoured. Contrast the discipline and obedience of Tendulkar with the arrogance and politics of Sunil Gavaskar. When Gavaskar achieved many batting records in his career, he carried them to his head. He refused to cooperate with the Indian captain Venkatraghavan. He scored the slowest innings ever in one day internationals (36 not out in 174 balls) against England in the World Cup in 1975 inspite of clear instructions from his captain to go for the runs. Gavaskar also dropped Kapil Dev in the Calcutta test to prevent him from achieving the world record of playing in hundred tests continuously. Gavaskar was jealous of other players. Gavaskar played cunning politics by using his power and influence. But Sachin has a clean mind. He has never been jealous against anybody. Sachin has never spoiled the career of any other player. Sachin has never disobeyed any captain. These hallmarks grace him much more than the hundred centuries he has scored.

Imran Khan’s Appreciation Is Surprising

Many appreciations are pouring in from all parts of the world for Tendulkar. Probably his cell phone’s disc memory would have overflowed. He may not be able to open his email account due to traffic jam. Kapil Dev, who till recently was clamouring for Tendulkar’s retirement, has been silenced by this century. I was really surprised by Imran Khan’s gracious complements to Sachin.

Imran Asked Richard Hadlee to Come out Of Retirement to Break Kapil’s Record

When Kapil Dev broke the world record of highest number of wickets in test cricket, the entire world praised him and congratulated him. But Imran Khan strangely was angry and called for Richard Hadlee (a New Zealand cricket bowler whose record Kapil Dev broke) to come out of his retirement and once again break the world record. I could not understand what made Imran to say so. Had Imran said that he would come out of retirement and break Kapil’s record, it could be understandable and even sporting. Had Imran said that some Pakistani bowler should break this record and do the country pride, I would have understood. But why did Imran Khan want Richard Hadlee to come out of the retirement and break Kapil Dev’s record? Richard Hadlee was a New Zealand citizen. Even if Hadlee had come out of his retirement and broken Kapil Dev’s record, what benefit would Imran Khan or Pakistan get out of this?

Imran could not digest Kapil;s achievement. Gavaskar was also jealous of Kapil Dev and dropped him from the team to prevent him from achieving a world record

Sachin’s Hundredth Hundred – a Crown in His Feather

Imran Was Angry That an Indian and That Too A Hindu Broke the World Record

Imran was very angry first of all that an Indian had broken the world record. Imran did not mind if the record was with a New Zealand player. India is Pakistan’s arch enemy but New Zealand is not. Naturally Imran was jealous that an Indian broke the world record. Secondly, Kapil Dev is a Hindu. Pakistan views all the Hindus as its enemies. In Pakistan Madarshas (Muslim educational institutions), the students are taught that Hindus are bad people and they deserve to be killed. That is why Pakistan is sending terrorists into India to create havoc. But Richard Hadlee was a Christian. Pakistan does not view Christians with the same hostility as they view the Hindus. Therefore Imran was not prepared to tolerate a Hindu holding a world record.

Sachin’s Achievement Would Have Infuriated Imran

Now also I expected Imran to issue a statement like ‘Barry Richards or Bobby Simpson should come out of their retirement and break Sachin’s record’. As Barry Richards belongs to South Africa and Bobby Simpson belongs to Australia, Imran will not mind if they come out of retirement and break Sachin’s record. Imran will have no objections if South Africa or Australia holds the record. He will object only if India holds it. Moreover Barry Richards and Bobby Simpson are Christians whereas Sachin Tendulkar is a Hindu. Naturally Sachin’s record achievement would have infuriated Imran.

Imran Himself Is Under Assassination Threat from the Talibans

But inspite of all these things, Imran gracefully appreciated Sachin. Why? Because of one reason. Imran himself is under threat of assassination from the hard core Islamic group of Talibans in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Talibans are directing their guns at anybody who supports girls’ education, which they feel is against Islam and Prophet Mohammad. Imran is one of their prime targets. Because of this personal threat, Imran is less interested in whether a Hindu holds the world record or a Christian. Imran is also not concerned about whether an Indian holds the record or a South African.

Irrespective Of What Imran Says, Sachin Is Great

Time and age mellow feelings. Imran was quite young twenty years back and roared when Kapil Dev broke the world record. Now Imran has softened due to ageing and extends his hands for friendship. But one thing is clear. Irrespective of what Imran Khan thinks or says, Sachin’s achievement is a Himalayan achievement without any parallel. None can come even nearer to Sachin now or in future.

Nice hub! You had mentioned in your article that Sunil Gavaskar scored the slowest century (36 n.o in 174). This is not a century. Very slow innings!
