Imran Khan And Kapil Dev Want Sachin Tendulkar To Retire

Imran Khan And Kapil Dev Want Sachin Tendulkar To Retire

Lot of discussions are taking place as to whether Sachin Tendulkar should announce his retirement now. Imran Khan and Kapil Dev have repeatedly called for Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement as they feel that youngsters should be given opportunity. They cite the example of Rahul Dravid retiring from cricket recently. They also say that a player like Sachin Tendulkar should retire when he is in peak form and not when he is at the rock bottom. Sunil Gavaskar retired when he was at his peak form. Even in his last innings at Bangalore against Pakistan, Sunil Gavaskar scored 96.

Sachin Tendulkar Has Refused To Retire

But Sachin Tendulkar has refused to oblige people like Imran Khan and Kapil Dev. Sachin Tendulkar has clearly announced that he reserves the right to announce his retirement and nobody can interfere in his decision. Is Sachin Tendulkar right by saying that he will not retire now?

Did Imran Khan And Kapil Dev Follow Their Own Advices?

Imran Khan and Kapil Dev say that one should retire when one is at his peak. But did they follow their own advices? Imran was at his peak in 1992 but did not retire. Kapil Dev did not retire when he was at his peak in 1983. Imran Khan and Kapil Dev are also telling that Sachin Tendulkar should have retired after India’s victory in the World Cup cricket last year. But did Imran Khan retire after winning the World Cup for Pakistan in Sydney in 1992? Did Kapil Dev retire after winning the World Cup for India in 1983 at Lords? The answer to both the questions is a clear no. Then why should they advise Sachin Tendulkar to retire now? Why should they tell that Sachin Tendulkar should have retired after the World Cup?

Both Imran And Kapil Are Jealous Of Sachin Tendulkar And His Wealth

The answer is that both Imran Khan and Kapil Dev are jealous of Sachin Tendulkar. Imran Khan is jealous because Sachin Tendulkar is an Indian and that too a Hindu and has broken many world records in batting. When Kapil Dev broke the world bowling record, Imran Khan grudgingly wanted Richard Hadlee to come back from retirement and break Kapil’s record. The reason why Imran said so was that he was jealous of Kapil Dev. Now Imran Khan is jealous of Sachin Tendulkar also.

Should Sachin Tendulkar Retire Now?

Kapil Dev Is An Unhappy Man Now

Kapil Dev is unhappy for many reasons. First of all, his business partner cheated him and he lost heavily in financial terms. Secondly, Kapil Dev met with failure while organizing his private T20 cricket. Thirdly, Kapil Dev has been totally ignored by the BCCI and other people. So Kapil Dev is jealous of Sachin Tendulkar and his wealth. Every match Sachin Tendulkar plays adds to his wealth and fortune.

Sunil Gavaskar Took A Foolish Decision

Sachin Tendulkar’s logic is absolutely correct. If a player is at his peak, why should he retire? Why not he carries on for some more time and contributes for his country? Sunil Gavaskar retired prematurely when he still had few years of cricket in him. But that was his personal decision. I would term it as a foolish decision. Why should Sachin Tendulkar follow the footsteps of Sunil Gavaskar and retire now?

Sachin Tendulkar’s Fans Want Him To Carry On

Sachin Tendulkar has millions of fans all over the world. All his fans want him to carry on for many years to come. Giving opportunity to youngsters is all okay, but when a person is performing better than youngsters, what is the logic in dropping him or forcing him to announce his retirement? Let the youngsters like Rohit Sharma first prove their capabilities. Rohit Sharma was provided many opportunities in the Australian tour but he did not come up to expectations.

Lance Gibbs Broke World Record After He Was Forty

Many players in the past have carried on even after reaching the age of forty. Geoff Boycott, Bobby Simpson and Lance Gibbs are the examples. Tom Iverson played his debut at the age of 49 when Don Bradman was the captain of Australia and he took many wickets in that 1946 series against England. Let Sachin Tendulkar play cricket for as long as he likes. He is a national hero. Nobody can impose retirement on this quality player. Retirement is a very personal decision which Sachin Tendulkar alone will decide in due course. Only Sachin Tendulkar’s millions of fans have a right to say anything about their master’s retirement. But the fans want Sachin Tendulkar to carry on forever.

As he said, no one asked him to start playing cricket and no one should ask him to retire. It's completely his decision. Let the great man decide for himself. As far as Kapil Dev is concerned, I have huge respect for him but he can't question Sachin's decision to continue playing. We all remember how long it took him to break the record of highest wicket taker. Hypocrisy?

I think he should mainly due to his Australian summer performance. He has lost his edge against the top teams, he's got the record, so it's time to retire while he is still around the top half of his best. Cheers Michael

Your facts are wrong. "But did Imran Khan retire after winning the World Cup for Pakistan in Sydney in 1992?... The answer to both the questions is a clear no. "

Imran khan DID retire after winning the world cup final in Melbourne

Dear rtyhkol,

I thank you for your valuable comments. You are correct and Imran Khan retired from cricket in 1992 after the world cup. I stand corrected. But Wikipedia gives an information that Imran Khan retired after the 1987 world cup (which I mistook as 1992 world cup) but was recalled for the 1992 world cup. If this information mentioned in Wikipedia is true, then Imran's first retirement is not a proper retirement at all.

As far as Kapil Dev is concerned, according to ESPN Cricinfo website, he retired only in 1994 well after winning the world cup in 1983 and I am right.
