Top 10 Future Ballon d'Or Winners

Updated on April 11, 2016
Douglas Costa
Douglas Costa

10 - Douglas Costa

This 25-year-old player has exceeded the expectations placed on him since his move from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer. Costa has kept his place in one of the strongest sides in Europe because of his power and trickery. Costa is not unfamiliar to titles, as he has assisted Shaktar Donetsk clinch on to the Ukranian Premier League and the Ukranian Cup on numerous occasions.

He has been a remarkable talent at an early age and throughout his six years in the youth ranks at ex-club Gremio, he excelled at the Punta Cup, as he got his hands on the Player of the Tournament award. He even claimed the Golden Boot at the Taca Belo Horizonte de Juniores, a prominent tournament for Under-20 sides in Brazil. This man really has a bright future and Bayern Munich can only improve this player. There are numerous clubs waiting in line to get their hands on this world class player.

Raphael Varane
Raphael Varane

9 - Raphael Varane

A defender hasn't won the Ballon d'Or for many years. However, Raphael Varane may be the man to do break that unceasing run. The young Real Madrid defender has many years ahead of him to improve and he is already a top class player. He is very fast and agile. Therefore, strikers struggle to get past him. The 22 year has been the target for many teams, and many big teams will spend big bucks for this guy.

As well as this, it is very important to note that he is surrounded by other top talents such as Cristiano Ronaldo, and I bet that he’s already received a tip or two from him. Chelsea is known to be one of the teams on this man’s tail.

James Rodriguez
James Rodriguez

8 - James Rodriguez

The wonder kid James Rodriguez has a lot of potential, no wonder Madrid splashed a staggering 80 million euros on him. Now that is a lot of money! I do think that Rodriguez is yet to prove his hefty price tag, though I believe that he can do it. He needs to try and become a bit more consistent and he can certainly do it judging by the fact that he is with his childhood idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rodriguez played much of his initial football in Envigado, about 12 kilometres away from his hometown. He primarily got noticed at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, when he scored a staggering 6 goals for his country Colombia. Many of these goals were stunners and played a huge part in Colombia’s success in that tournament. This enabled him to win the Golden Boot, and that too at the age of 23. This young man has got quite a bright future, and he will be among the all-time greats if he continues to play in the midfield position like this.

Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne

7 - Kevin De Bruyne

I have to say, Chelsea made a big mistake by letting this guy go. De Bruyne, 24, plays for Manchester City and is simply worth every single penny. City were very lucky to get him, because there were many other teams who were read to splash tens of millions for this player. He is still to reach his best level.

De Bruyne also has a wide variety of different accolades under his belt. This includes the Bundesliga’s Player of the Year for the 2014/2015 season. The pacey player will probably be Guardolia’s gem once the manager is here.

Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling

6 - Raheem Sterling

Once again, City splashed the cash for the most expensive English player. Some say he is excellent, while others say he is overrated. I say that he is a very good player, but he needs to sort a few things out. First of all, he really does need to work on his shooting. He can make amazing runs with the ball, though he just can't seem to get his finishing right. If he does improve his shooting, he will become a goal scoring machine.

Sterling came all the way from Jamaica at a young age and when he came to England, his talents simply blossomed. Liverpool gave him his big break and now he is a first team regular for England. It is amazing how he came all the way from Jamaica at the age of three and how he has now become a world class player. This man will certainly make it far in his career and may even become a legend for England.

Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard

5 - Eden Hazard

One bad season, and everyone forgets about him. Hazard has to be one of the most talented footballers in the world, though everyone has seemed to forgotten him just because of one bad season. We've all seen the 25-year old's ability and we all know that he can definitely get hold of the Ballon d'Or. He has aided Chelsea in their prospects of winning titles and trophies. He has also done well for himself, winning a staggering number of 22 individual honours.

Real Madrid are on his tail and they are ready to pay huge sums of money for him. We all expect to see him come out strong next season.

Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial

4 - Anthony Martial

When the Red Devils first got hold of this teenager, most people knew nothing about him and Manchester United were criticised for spending £36 million on him. However, he has turned to be one of United's best transfer decisions so far. He is going to be a sensation if he continues to play in this manner and attitude. He has many years to improve his consistency, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he wins this prestigious award.

Martial wrapped a move to Olympique Lyonnais at the young age of 14. During his second season there, he scored 32 goals in 21 games. Therefore, he is classified as being one of the most prominent players in the world. His style of play is known to be similar to that off Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale

3 - Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale is the world's most expensive player, with Real Madrid spending 85 million pounds on him. He is an exceptional player, and this season he has shone and shown his true potential. However, the injuries are eating into his time at Madrid. He must reduce his chances of getting injured somehow. I do expect him to win it at one point in his career. He will probably become Madrid's main man once Ronaldo retires.
The winger is also a regular for the Welsh national team and he has been an inaugural part of taking Wales to the 2016 Euros. The speedy winger was named the PFA Young Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the year in 2013. He has been a very athletic person since his early years, no wonder he ran 100 metres in 11.4 seconds at the age of 14.

Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba

2 - Paul Pogba

Manchester United made a really big mistake by letting this young man slip through their hands. His dominant defending and powerful attacking have allowed him to become one of the most wanted men on the planet. He left United to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2012, as he was growing exasperated due to the privation of first team opportunities. Pogba has expressed his dislike for ex-manager Sir Alex Ferguson, as the legendary manager called the player “disrespectful.”

Pogba has been playing football since the age of 6 and the French international has continued to gain experience in a wide variety of different clubs and countries. He continues to shine both for club and country and I doubt that anyone would be surprised if he wins this award on numerous occasions.

Neymar
Neymar

1 - Neymar

Taking the number spot, is Neymar. He has had an incredible year with Barcelona, scoring 41 goals in 2015. At the age of 23, he is the fifth on the all-time scoring list for Brazil and he has already won a wide range of different accolades, both individual and for the club. He has already been nominated for the Ballon D’or and he will undoubtedly continue to be nominated if he stays in his current form.

The only other team that Neymar has played for is Santos, where he exhibited unbelievable talent and skill. He scored his 100th professional goal at the age of 20. That just goes to show that this is man that will break even more records. Once Messi retires, he will probably the main man for Catalonian club.

These are just ten of the talents that have displayed amazing talent; there are probably many more players out there. Who else do you think has the potential to win the Ballon D’or? Tell us in the comments.
