Top 5 Ugliest Football Players of All Time

Updated on March 13, 2017

The World of Football - The Ugly Truth

The glamour of football can be seen in everyday life. Stars in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham appear in luxurious ads on daily basis. However the ugly truth is that 99% of football players do not look anything like Ronaldo or Beckham. Majority of them do not resemble anything like that. No matter how ugly looking a player is, in the end of the day, there is only one thing that matters the most and that is how good you are on the football field. Some of the ugliest players have been blessed to have great talent, and some of them simply did not make the grade. In any case, players need to be judged solely by the way they play the game. This list is meant for entertainment purposes only, as all of the players in it are respectable, talented and famous professional football players.

Carlos Tevez

#5 - Ugliest Football Player of All Time - Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez is the one of most talented player on this list. His football achievements are far greater than his looks, as he has played in some of the top clubs in Europe and South America. The Argentinian native has played for Manchester United, Corinthians, Juventus and Manchester City to name a few of those famous clubs.
Together with his looks, comes a bit of a feisty personality which has got him in trouble several times and this is one of the reasons why he has moved football clubs so often. No matter how he looks Carloz Tevez is a top notch player, who is a gem to have on every team (at least his playing skills and fight for every inch of the field). His successful career will continue to evolve as he is currently playing for Juventus in Italy where he is considered an indispensable first team player. Carlos Tevez is now one of the highest paid players in China. He currently plays for Shanghai Greenland in the top division in the Chinese Premier League.

#4 - Ugliest Football Player of All Time - Luke Chadwick

Luke Chadwick comes at number four as one of the ugliest players to ever play the beautiful game of football. Once he was considered a great talent and even played for one of the most famous football clubs in the world: Manchester United. However his stay at the Red Devils did not last long as he bounced from club to club across nearly all English football leagues. He even played for English national teams under 18 and 21, however never made it to the highest level. Norwich, Stoke, Reading and eventually MK Dons were the teams that once believed in his ability as a potential talent. His talent clearly did not translate into scoring goals as he has scored only 14 goals for MK Dons in nearly 200 matches. Best of luck to Luke Chadwick as he might want to consider a career in coaching or sports radio (TV might be a stretch)

Franck Ribery

#3 - Ugliest Football Player of All Time - Franck Ribery

Franck Ribery together with Carlos Tevez represent some of the top football players in today's age. Just like Tevez, Ribery plays for a top club in Europe: Bayern Munich and the fans of the club could care less how he looks. He is their best player and he is one of the best in the world. He has achieved lots of success with the German team, and one would be mistaken to judge him by his looks. He is a beast on the football field and there are very few defenders that are able to stop the Frenchman from dismantling them on any given occasion. All that being said, Ribery is not the prettiest player, but his talent makes up for that and he is someone that every football club in Europe would love to have in their line-up. Ribery has over 220 matches for Bayern Munich and will definitely be considered as one of the top players that played for the team.

Ivan Campo

#2 - Ugliest Football Player of All Time - Ivan Campo

Ivan Campo comes up at number two in the ugliest football players list. Contrary to what people may think, Ivan Campo actually had a pretty respectable football career. He played for Valencia Real Madrid and Bolton. He played mostly at the defender position of the football field, and experienced the biggest success of his career with Real Madrid. He was even capped four times for the Spanish national team (a pretty hard team to break into). He ended his career in Cyprus playing for AEK Laranca where he played only eight games. Ivan Campo will always be known for his good defensive skills and his talents clearly overshadowed his looks.

Trifon Ivanov

#1 - Ugliest Football Player of All Time - Trifon Ivanov

The number one ugliest player of all time, is Trifon Ivanov. The Bulgarian beast became famous around the unprecedented run of the Bulgarian national team in 1994, when they took 4th place. He had great talent as he stopped world famous players in 1994 and helped Bulgaria achieve great success in 1994. Many people claim that his success as a defender is strongly correlated with his looks as he scares every player that plays against him. His most successful years playing football were spent in CSKA (Sofia), and Austria where he played for Austria Vienna and Rapid Vienna. All in all he is the ugliest player to play the game, and probably the most dangerous one to go against as he was well known for his hard slide tackles on the field.

Updated*

Sadly on February 13th 2016, Trifon Ivanov passed away due to a heart failure. He was on 49 years old. A lot of former and current players paid tribute to his great career as a football player. Players around the world gathered together for a minute silence before each game in almost all major leagues that same weekend.
