The World Cup is a process of elimination. Each round sees winners, and sometimes runners up, going through to the next round of the competition.

Each team has to play a match against the other three teams in their group.

The first and second placed football team in each group will go through to the second round. There will be eight matches in the second round. Each of these matches has the winning team from one group playing the runner-up from another group.

From these sixteen teams eight will go through to the quarter finals. The four quarter final matches are to be played on July 2nd and July 3rd.

Four teams will go through from the quarter finals to the semi finals, which are to be played on July 6th and July 7th.

July 10th will see a football match to determine the 3rd and 4th placed teams in the overall World Cup competition.

The World Cup 2010 final is to be played on July 11th, in Johannesburg.

England's chances of winning.

England's group is no worse and maybe no better than other groups. At first glance it does not look a particularly hard group but you never know. The England Squad can be unpredictable, to say the least. Who knows, perhaps England and the United States could be the qualifying teams in Group C.

Football in USA and football in the rest of the world are two different things. The only sport I watch is college basketball. The World Cup is a big deal, though. Good hub.
