Uncalled move by the government

Millions of Fans Are Praying for Yuvraj Singh’s Cure

It is very unfortunate that a young and budding cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been diagnosed with cancer just at a time he was becoming one of the top all rounders in the game of cricket. In fact it was Yuvraj Singh’s all round play that won the World Cup for India last year. Yuvraj Singh was awarded the ‘Player of the series’ award, in recognition of his all round talent. Subsequently Yuvraj Singh did not play well in the IPL season and was very reticent off the field also. Shrewd observers could sense that something was wrong with him. But nobody thought that Yuvraj Singh would be suffering as serious a disease as cancer. His millions of fans are now praying that Yuvraj Singh should get cured and come back to cricket at the earliest. The doctors are also confident that Yuvraj Singh could be cured in ten months fully.

Uncalled Move by the Government

Just at a time when everything seems to be going well for the young cricketer, the Indian government has come out with an announcement that it will be extending financial assistance for the treatment of Yuvraj Singh. This has really provoked many people to react. Many people who do not know about the game of cricket or about Yuvraj Singh’s achievements are questioning the government’s motive in extending assistance to a rich cricketer whereas millions of poor Indians are languishing with many health problems without money to get cured. Even many of Yuvraj Singh’s fans are also upset at this uncalled for announcement from the government of India.

Does Yuvraj Singh Need Assistance For His Medical Treatment?

Yuvraj Singh Earns Millions of Dollars Every Year

Yuvraj Singh is a top cricketer in the world. His income is in millions of dollars every year. He earns money through various routes like playing cricket, receiving money from the IPL sponsors, advertisements, visiting, coaching and many such activities. In fact, even after Yuvraj Singh quits cricket, he will continue to receive lavish income through various activities connected with cricket like cricket administration, coaching, advertising etc. If Yuvraj Singh starts a cricket coaching academy, there are many youngsters ready to join by paying huge money. Apart from all these things, Yuvraj Singh has been insured by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for a huge sum and his entire medical treatment will be taken care of by the insurance company.

Help the Really Poor

Let the government of India not do stupid things in the name of showing its concern towards Yuvraj Singh. It can only be counterproductive. At a time when everybody prays for speedy cure of Yuvraj Singh, the government’s act has provoked many people in questioning the move. Yuvraj Singh or his family members never sought the assistance of the government for providing treatment in USA. Some time back, the government of India extended tax concession to Sachin Tendulkar for his achievements in cricket. This was also an uncalled move. Sachin is one of the richest sportsmen in the world today. He can very easily pay the tax to the government. He is not a poor man. If the government wants, let it extend tax concessions and financial assistance to millions of poor people and middle class who are reeling under the pressure of spiralling inflation, rising prices and interest rates. A misplaced sympathy is uncalled for.

I strongly disagree with your comments. When Ministers and government servants who make 100s of cr of rupees, are supported with medical benefits, why should a sportsman like Yuvi who have a very short career/uncertain and work so hard & bring honours for the nation NOT get medical benefit?? This has no connection with offering Free medical treatment to the poor, by the government.
