That's actually a little harder to answer then you think. When I think of hunting trips/vacations I am looking for destinations outside my area (West Central Florida). I do most of my hunting in Georgia and Alabama... most, not all.
To give you my opinion I would have to know what type of game you plan to hunt. The West Central Florida area I live in has exceptional Hog and Turkey Hunting and fair Deer Hunting.
There are many public hunting areas - W.M.A.'s (Wildlife Management Areas), several private hunting preserves, and numerous hunting clubs.
Some of the best -free- hunting for Hogs can be found in the Goethe Forest W.M.A. around Inglis, the Flying Eagle W.M.A. outside of Inverness and the Half Moon W.M.A. on the river border of Citrus and Sumpter counties.
Citrus W.M.A. around Inverness and the Goethe Forest W.M.A. have some good Turkey populations as well as fair Deer herds.
As far as the nicest pay-hunt preserve in the area, my vote would go to the folks at Ross Hammock Ranch in Inglis Florida. They have first class accomodations as far as lodging and world class native and exotic game. If your looking for a great place to stay, great food, awesome guides and outstanding animals... Ross Hammock Ranch has it all.
Lastly, there are tons of great hunting clubs in the area that have good Hog, Turkey and Deer populations. Most of them offer camp sites (if its a RV or primitive camping type vacation) and year round access.
Crystal River Florida is one of the bigger (I use that term loosely) towns in the area that could serve as a home base for hunting and vacation. It's a waterfront resort town that is real popular with folks looking to dive and swim with the Manatees in the spring-fed water of the river. It makes a great base to do the hunting thing or the vacation thing. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, etc... yet still close enough to drive to all of the hunting areas mentioned above.
I hope I answered the question you were trying to ask.
