Who is the greatest Linebacker to ever play in the NFL?

Although my opinion may be a little biased, being a die hard Bears fan since 1975, Dick Butkus was the greatest linebacker to ever put on an NFL uniform. I give props to Lawrence Taylor, Jack Lambert, Ray Nitschke, and Ray Lewis, but in my opinion Butkus was the best. Who's your all time favorite?

Maybe it is because I have always lived near Atlanta, but I have to go with Jessie Tuggle.  Being a Bears fan I can't believe you didn't mention Mike Singletary, he may be the only other linebacker that could have hung in there with Butkus.

I do love Mike Singletary as well mgeorge, but the Monsters of the midway defense that Singletary anchored was so good as a whole, it's hard to say how good he really was.

Well, he may not get into the discussion of best or greatest, but my favorite is Chris Spielman. I just liked the way that guy played the game.

Chris Spielman was a good LB, he was just on some horrible Lions defenses

I live in San Diego County, so with respect and loyalty - Junior Seau. Of least a Top Ten all time linebacker in my book.

Junior Seau is definitely a top ten LB

Butkus is the most intimidating (though his knees gave out rather quickly) ahead of Nitschke and Lambert.
Greatest?  "The Violent World of Sam Huff" (google it) - the 4-3 was invented specifically for him.
I like Bobby Bell, but Sam Huff is THE alpha linebacker. Period.  Next is Bednarik.

MLB Jack Lambert the terror behind the steel curtain my all time fave liked him so much that was the position I choose in High school, but Jack Tatum the Executioner from the Raiders was the most feared ever!

Tatum brought the wood - that hit between him and Earl Campbell was incredible.  He was a safety though, and Mad Dog Curtis has to be on the most feared safety list as well.  And if we're talking DBs, then we have to mention Night Train Lane...

I remember that hit he put on Darryl Stingley that paralyzed him.

Sorry to add a Safety but I know many really though about football as a career choice after Stingley,
