    NBA Board approves small changes

Updated Jul 20, 2012 6:49 AM ET  LAS VEGAS (AP)

The NBA Board of Governors approved a new look for uniforms and a couple of changes in the use of video replay.

Commissioner David Stern met with the media Thursday after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting.

''The view is, that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for Adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail,'' said Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, who is handling the uniform change. … ges-071912
This is a pro team but it seems silly to do this.

I agree its silly, but to be honest I'm not surprised by the fact they approved the change. In Europe we've had to put up with companies plastering their names over soccer shirts for years. So I guess it was inevitable in a way that something like this would happen. I wonder how long it will be until the NFL, MLB and NHL follow suit.

This is the normal course of action in sports leagues around the world, especially European futbol and basketball leagues around the globe. It seems to be the way things have been going for the past 15 years here in the US as well with corporate sponsorship of arenas and stadiums and such.
