Do Sports Championships Make a City Shine?

I've had an ongoing debate with friends about Pro Sports Championships. Some say they put a city on a map, some say they don't. Do you think they make a city? Why or why not?

They make it seem glamorous, romantize it. But when the hype dies off, its still the same Old place.

Sports championships make a city shine? How? The fires that get started from all of the rioting? My god man, they even rioted in Montreal after the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup.

As for getting put on the map, I don't necessarily agree, unless you're referring to Tom's River or South Bend or some otherwise geographically insignificant place.

plus the dumbest people cause so much unwanted trouble for the cities that win.
