Various formats of cricket: Test cricket

The classical form of cricket is test cricket. It has been played for five long days, six hours a day. It takes longer time in comparison to one day internationals(ODI). One day international matches take just one day. All types of cricket matches are played between two teams having 11 players each side.

Both the teams play two innings in test cricket format. There is no restriction or limit of time in playing an innings. One of the teams bat first and play their innings till 10 of the batsmen out. The opponent team bats the next in the same way. The first team then comes again to bat their second innings as their first. The opponent team plays again their second innings. Sum total of both innings of both the teams decide the result.

Many times all four innings can not be completed even in prescribed five days and match ends with a timing draw. This feature of test cricket makes it unpopular. People do not have patience and time of five days to watch a test match in modern and busy life.

The IPL fever would be cured if the overkill continued. When this hub was written it was truly a novel idea. Then the BCCI decided to expand the tournament and put most players up for auction again. That took some of the gloss off of it. They can always remedy that by playing only one round of matches, but overkill is the name of the game.
