5 Tips to Achieve a Healthy and Young Looking Skin

Updated on July 14, 2013

Each one of us wants to look younger than our actual age in spite of knowing that aging is inevitable. As we get older, we start to lose the youthfulness of our skin which starts to develop wrinkles, though they appear prominently post 55-60 age group.

Lot of people believe that to maintain youthfulness of their skin they have to undergo expensive cosmetic surgery and use costly cosmetic products. Contrary to this belief, you can actually keep your skin looking younger and healthier by adopting healthy lifestyle choices and following a regular skin care regime.

5 Tips to Achieve a Healthy and Young Looking Skin

These tips for younger looking skin will help to slow down your skin's natural aging process. Thus, you can flaunt your youthful appearance while you’re in your 60s and 70s.

1. Sun Protection

Prolonged exposure to sun is the #1 reason that causes wrinkles and skin pigmentation. Using a sunscreen with an SPF is a good habit but still you should avoid sun exposure between 10-4 because these are high intensity hours. Scientific research has shown that ‘a lifetime of sun exposure’ is responsible for most changes that are seen in aging skin.

2. Don’t smoke

Smoking is not just bad for your skin but also for your health! Perhaps, you’ve heard and read it several times that smoking causes Cancer. Give up this smoking (and alcohol) to maintain appropriate level of collagen in your skin so you don’t look old and tired before 60.

3. Make healthy eating choices

Avoid eating too much junk food; eat healthy and organic food instead. Do not forget to eat fruits regularly as they contain vitamins and anti-oxidants that help fight skin aging and maintain youthfulness of skin.

4. Follow regular skin care routine

Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are critical to maintain elasticity of skin. Do it regularly and avoid using beauty products if you’re not sure if they are right for you. Visit a beauty expert and take their advice on which products to use depending upon your skin type.

5. Get adequate sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is critical to our health and well-being as much as it is for healthy skin. Most of us are working on hectic schedules and deadlines which can cause irritation, depression and develop poor sleeping habits. If you want to prolong the natural ageing process, you simply have to get adequate sleep of about 7-8 hours daily.

Conclusion

Each one of us is going to grow old but by making some smart choices we can prolong aging and achieve a healthy and young looking skin without any cosmetic surgery or applying expensive products.
