Ametrine Gemstone and Jewelry

Ametrine Gemstone is a breathtakingly beautiful sparkling purple and yellow colored stone which is a combination of Amethystand Citrine gems. With this unusual gemstone one gets two gemstones in a single piece for the price of one! As you may have already noticed the words amethyst and citrine are combined to yield the name Ametrine. The purple and golden colors of this gem are as a result of different oxidation states of iron impurities within the crystalline structure. It is a durable gemstone and has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale with a trigonal crystal structure and can be readily recognized by its colors, hardness, glassy luster and lack of cleavage. The beauty and hardness of this stone makes it most suitable for jewelry, especially pendants. Wearing Ametrine jewelry is said to bring clarity to the spirit, mind and body. It is a good gemstone for those who are born in the month of February or the Zodiac sign of Pisces. This stone is also a good stone for those born under the Zodiac Sign of Libra and Gemini. The planets associated with this stone are Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune and Pluto. Ametrine is associated with the Solar plexus and Brow Chakras.

Ametrine is a variety of Quartz and also is referred as ‘Trystine’. Another name of this gemstone is ‘Bolivianite’ which may be due to its availability in the jungles of Bolivia. The Anahi Mine in Bolivia is the major world producer of ametrine. This stone is also found in Brazil and India. The Anahi mine became famous in the seventeenth century when a Spanish Conquistador received this stone as a present when he married a Princess from the Ayoreos tribe named Anahi. Though it is a quite unique and rare stone, it is not a very expensive stone when it comes to the price. Artificial Ametrine is created by differential heat treatment of amethyst.
