Armpit hair on women. Do you love it or hate it?

Source

A little while ago I wrote a couple of lighthearted articles called The Top 10 Passion Killers for Men and The Top 10 Passion Killers for Women. Never could I have guessed the amount of comments I would receive on one of the passion killers listed in my top 10 passion killers for men article, and that was 'armpit hair on women'. It seems that there are still a fair few people both male and female, who think there is nothing horrible about hairy armpits on a woman at all, and that any resulting odour is only a natural woman smell. That said, I also received a large amount of comments supporting the idea that armpit hair is not nice, and that it encourages body odour, as well as being very unattractive. This is what has prompted me to write this short article, mainly in order to get a better idea through a poll, of whether the majority of people (male or female) think armpit hair on a woman is nice or nasty. Of course I could simply have added a poll to the original article, but I felt that to do that would detract from the other things on the list it contained, therefore it would be far better to create a new topically focused article instead. Here is the result!

The Case For Armpit Hair

The case for armpit hair on women appears to consist of a few regular statements made by commenters on the subject, (I have say some some of these comments put forward a very doubtful argument and I don't agree with many of them) :

  • Armpit hair is natural and should therefore be left alone
  • Any associated odour is only the 'natural smell of a woman'
  • Women need armpit hair
  • Hairy armpits on a woman are sexy
  • Hairy armpits are a sign of health and confidence
  • Hairy armpits on a woman are a 'turn on' for men
  • Any man refusing a date with a girl because she displays hairy pits is immature and does not deserve a girlfriend
  • Armpit hair is a sign of maturity
  • Women with armpit hair are confident intelligent people
  • Shaving increases the likelihood of developing ingrown hairs

The Case Against Armpit Hair

The case against armpit hair on women as made by commenters consists largely of statements such as:

  • Hairy armpits trap sweat resulting in body odour
  • Armpit hair on ladies looks horrible
  • Men mostly find women with hairy armpits a turn off
  • Hairy armpits look masculine
  • Greek statues of women in antiquity had no pubic hair, suggesting that hairlessness was an ideal of feminine beauty
  • It is part of the Western Culture for women to have shaven armpits
  • "Not many men when they first meet a girl go for the yetti look"
  • It's just part of living in civilised society
  • "I think a woman's armpit area is a very sensual place, and not shaving it takes away from that"
  • "I would not want to be with a woman that looks like she is smuggling Chewbacca (from Star Wars) under her arm."
  • Armpit hair is no longer required because we are gradually evolving and losing our body hair. We no longer need it for warmth because we have clothes
  • Certain religions call for women to be clean shaven

So now you have an idea of the two schools of thought on the subject of armpit hair on women it is your turn to vote on what you think. I hope that over the coming months we will begin to see a general consensus of opinion via the poll results below, and this will give us a far better idea of what the majority think about women with armpit hair. I look forward to seeing the results the polls begin to produce as the days go on, not that it will change the way I operate, I am definitely in the 'hair free armpits' club.

Personally I think armpit hair on women is unattractive but that's me. Some people think that hair on a mans face is unattractive. I think its all just a matter of personal preference. Interesting hub though.

Thanks Just Ask Susan. I am with you on the 'unattractive' comment. I think it looks pretty horrible and very untidy. Not over keen on facial hair on men either, but more because I find it prickles and tickles your nose when you kiss them, plus it has the potential for food, tobacco smells etc to get trapped in the hair.

I hate it! lol I honestly wish women didn't grow armpit hair, it's uneeded and very unattractive.

Hi Justjed, I have got my comments set to 'pre-approval' which is why you couldn't see your first comment and must have thought it had vanished because you posted it twice more. I have deleted the second two because they were duplicates of the first comment.

Thanks for your comment, I totally agree with you. I always feel highly aware if I haven't shaved my underarms for a few days that I must wear long sleeves until I do. :)

I know Ted, but the majority of people in the Western World still don't seem to like it, hence the reason for the poll on this hub, to gauge popular opinion. Strangely many people assume it is normal for women in France not to shave their armpit hair for instance, but apparently this is no longer true, and most French ladies do shave their armpit hair.

Women should stop shaving...everywhere. I like lots of pubic, underarm and head - hair. The more the merrier.

Natural is always best.

Misty - first I was LOL! I like the chewbacca comment! I do not sport armpit hair - And don't like it. I don't care if other women have it - but personally - I shave every day. I know my husband would not like it if I stopped shaving. I'd hate for my armpits to look like his! Ew - but now that I thought that - it would be so weird if a guy did shave his under arms too! Lol

Hey Misty, I'm not interested in seeing armpit hair on a woman. It's unappealing to me. I can see how different women from different cultures were raised and I guess it goes to show something of that culture. I would disagree with the fact that women should stop shaving altogether. I mean, if all women stop shaving and men didn't shave either, then you would have an entire human species of very hairy people. And, I'm willing to bet that there would be even more diseases than there are now. Great hub! :)

Interesting Hub. I like to see how the different cultures respond to the idea within their cultural norms of idealized feminine beauty.

I'm hitting the UP button!

Quite a thoughtful hub mistyhorizon2003!

Sometimes the hair on women does look sexy and turning on but largely it doesn't suit most of them!

Like for example, it doesn't look good at all on girls under 25.

It largely depends upon the perspective of the person and it is clear from the various comments above!

But still, thank you very much for sharing the hub! :)

And yes you can stay with the resolution you made in your last comment! :)

Of course you are right colpolbear, we have been conditioned to dislike the appearance of it, but once in that mindset I think it would be hard to go back to liking hairy armpits. I can't ever see a time in my life I would have them.

I have never dated anyone with armpit hair, but I have known females who do not shave and it has never bothered me.

It is the person's preference and I make a note of it - like what shirt they are wearing or what-not, but it doesn't excite me or disappoint me. I would have to say if my wife grew armpit hair the only thing that would really disturb me is if she stuck it in my face or something. I don't do this to people and I don't expect it done to me.

Lone Ranger 4 years ago

Cindy:

There are only four regions on a woman's body where hair is acceptable: A woman's head, arms, eye-brows/lashes and nether region.

I remember once, years ago when I was a young Ranger, that I saw a woman wearing shorts in a grocery store. At first I thought she was a man. She was wearing white shorts, a yellow t-shirt, and had long curly hair.......all over her legs!!! I damn-near threw-up right there and then on aisle five. Twenty years later I can still see the image in my mind and it still makes me shudder.

Later on, and to my chagrin, I discovered my mother-in-law was a loyal adherent of the "European" look. Unfortunately, she had invited us over for lunch and while at the table stretched her hands heavenward exposing the brilliant black locks flourishing within the warm, moist region of her arm pits.

Needless to say, I began to choke on my food as a result, although it could have been the chicken bone lodged in the back of my throat. The bottom line is I couldn't eat another bite nor could I find it within myself to forgive her for the visual assault.

The fact is women are capable of growing hair in all the same places as men, but I don't think this is a feminist plot as much as it is nature's plan. Having said that, there is a difference between women who grow their hair modestly and in good taste, while there are others who like to prove to the world that they are capable of growing a dense mat all over their bodies.

Best wishes and be well - L.R.

I'm really surprised to see how many people could care less whether a woman has armpit hair or not. I personally detest armpit hair period whether it be on a man or a woman. I vote to stay with lots of thick, shiny hair on my head ONLY....clean-shaven legs and pits.

I remember going to the State Fair when I was 16 and this biker looking woman raised her arms and their was a BUSH under there! Lololo! I could not believe it. Thanks for the thumbs up :)

It doesn't bother me (I'm a girl) but personally I like keeping them shaven. Not because of society (which really is ass backwards when it comes to stuff like this, haha) but because of hygiene and aesthetics. It just looks better shaven for me. Underarms, legs, and nether regions are shaven. I will NOT touch my arms though, and I've been unfortunate enough to have a bit more "peach fuzz" hair on my stomach and whatnot (I have dark hair so its noticeable while most girls you'd never see it).

My boyfriend, when it comes to body hair, is a werewolf, plain and simple (at 21, imagine that). He's really self conscious about it, and shaves his own underarms, arms, and chest. I hate it when he shaves his arms and chest though, as I think body hair on guys is nice! But I'm very grateful he shaves under his arms :)

rLcasaLme profile image

Well, in my opinion, the best body part of a woman that attracts the opposite sex is her skin. Is it not?

Isn't it that the more skin revealed, the more the guy appreciates her physical beauty? Conceal some of them, they become less tempting.

That's why Muslim men prefer their wives be totally covered so that no man gets attracted by her.

Better cover a lady's skin with clothes than cover it with hair. It's very unattractive for ladies.

Hi TheMagician, good comment. Interesting what you said about your man. My Hubby is covered in hair too, even on his back. I wouldn't mind so much if he had his back waxed, but if he started shaving his arms and chest I would find that odd as I kind of expect a man to have hair there.

I personally don't find armpit hair particularly sexy, but it is natural, then it is beautiful. I do not keep if because of modern etiquette rules, but in older times when there was no razor or wax women had it, and men did love them without any discrimination. And the smell is quite natural.

Joe Blow 4 years ago

Rank and vile!

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Nare, well I am not sure I agree that everything natural is necessarily beautiful, e.g. mole rats, worms, leeches etc. I also would say that the smell only becomes a problem when people don't wash enough. The bacteria on the sweat are what cause the smell, not the sweat itself. Therefore if there is a smell due to sweat that has not been washed away, it indicates a lower level of cleanliness standards and would be off-putting to most people (male or female). You could argue that people didn't bathe as much in the old days too, therefore no-one noticed the smell because they all smelled as bad as each other. Luckily we do wash frequently these days, so someone with smelly hairy armpits is quickly 'noticed' and not in a good way!

For those of us who don't care either way, I think this is yet another indicator in choosing a partner. If you're open to what is healthy, natural, personal preference, gender equal, etc... it comes through in a lot of ways other than this. A woman who is confident enough to not shave probably is attracted to certain types of people and not others. Vive la difference!

Hey, now! I just happen... Did you know in some cultures, not American, it's just fine to let the hair grow? Some think it is sexy. When I lived in Alaska I let my hair on my legs and armpits grow. It keeps you warm. Ha ha! Now that I am here in Arkansas, I still let the leg hairs grow and armpits. My hair grows slower and less (for me) now that I'm older (55). Some people have shaved their armpit hair and caused cysts to develop in their armpits. If continued to be a problem they have to have surgery and skin grafts done. True story.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Heather, yes I do know in 'some' cultures it is the 'norm' to let it grow. I honestly doubt sweating is such an issue in a cold climate like Alaska. I really doubt armpit and leg hair will make a great deal of difference to our levels of 'warmth' because most body heat is lost through extremities like the top of the head, the fingers, ears etc.

I agree as you get older it grows less as my Mum can confirm this, but she still shaves and has never had a problem with cysts, (now in her 70's). To be honest the risk of cysts is so tiny that I doubt it is really a serious issue. Realistically out of the thousands of people you probably know or have known who have shaved, how many of them ended up with cysts, and out of those how many of them ended up needing skin grafts? I reckon we are more at risk of being struck by an asteroid (as individuals, not as a planet,) than we are of having a problem with a cyst or a skin graft as a result of shaving.

All that said thanks for your comments and your thoughts, even if I do not totally agree with you :)

What a unique topic. As a man, I prefer a woman without armpit hair, but is by no means a deal breaker. My preference/opinion is probably the result of seeing most women without armpit hair. It really is a personal choice for the woman and men should accept it.

Hi Stella, fair point, although I reckon I would still shave either way :)

Linkusbless 4 years ago

Ever since I learnt that pubic hair on women was a sign of their sexual maturity and so was seen by Rennaissance artists as 'wrong', or dangerous, or unattractive, I rebelled.

I last shaved my armpits in 1989 after not having done so for a while and it was so uncomfortable I swore I'd never do it again. I do however use hair trimmers to keep it reasonably short. I do shave my legs (when we get a summer) as I like the idea of wearing highheels and strappy sandals and concede that hairy legs and highheels does look odd--probably because high heels are odd!

I was talking to a male friend about how he would feel about having to 'put on a face' before he went out the door--everyday. He looked at me as if I were mad.

I really don't like the trend towards rendering grown women as pre-pubescent children by making them completely shiny and hairless. I think it's a bit sick.

This is quite an interesting read.

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on the subject here Linkusbless. I personally would hope that the hairless trend was not intended (for most of us) to look like 'pre-pubescent ' children, but was more to make us feel clean, fresh and 'tidy'.

It is great to be independent and rebel about something you feel strongly about, and I admire the fact you did, (and do.) The problem I would have myself is weighing up whether I would be comfortable knowing that in general I was considered less attractive as a result, and was reducing my chances of securing any interest from a member of the opposite sex who I might really find attractive as a potential partner. Apart from this I also have issues with the appearance of body hair on women even as a woman myself as you probably gathered from reading this article.

Linkusbless 4 years ago

I just heard on the radio, that the numbers of bedbugs and pubic lice have increased dramatically in the last 5-10 years in some of our biggest, swishest, cities. One explanation was that pubic hair, acts as an early warning system that alerts you to creeping things 'down there' or I guess in your armpits. I know the hair on my arm has prevented me from being burnt on a couple of occasions--hair folicles are pretty sensitive. If there are rising numbers of utterly nudified young people traveling the world, blissfully unaware that they have tiny bugs crawling around their nether regions, it's no wonder these things are on the rise.

Do we think men should shave their armpits too? They already do their backs and chests and nuts. Clean armpits for men too? I'd like to advocate that men be pressured into spending a minimum twenty minutes every day in the morning looking into the mirror and worrying about whether they look alright. Every. Day.

I don't see any need for anyone to shave on their arms, only under their arms where sweat can get trapped. My Husband has a very hairy chest and back, but again he doesn't shave or wax those areas because they won't trap sweat either. I am sceptical about the pubic lice theory because they use pubic hair to lay their eggs in, so no hair means no lice, although in the very depths of the groin area you will probably still have hair where they could nest.

I recently stopped shaving. I don't know why I didn't do it before...I have no visible leg hair on the back of my legs or my whole thighs and sparse blonde hair on the front of them. I also have very downy underarm hair and definitely not as much as a guy. My fiancé isn't sure he is going to like it when he comes home though. I wish women didn't feel obligated to shave and that more men liked it...It seems like such a trivial thing...I saw an unshaven girl playing soccer against another college which was known for their hippie culture, and I was fascinated...Don't find it unattractive at all!

It's a cultural attitude taught to us. Was a time not too long ago that armpit hair was viewed as natural--because it is. It grown on everyone. But 'there's money in them thar razors and shave creams.' It's an off-shoot of skinny. "We are what we are and we ain't what we ain't." as John Prine sings. What next? Shall we shave everyone's head too as well as armpits of men and women? Maybe it relates to the "Little Boxes" syndrome. C'mon peoples! Can we like who we are and how we look? Next thing you know we'll all be wearing long sleeves and long pants year-round.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Hi Almorr, thanks for commenting. Yes, it is up to the woman as you say, although I do strongly believe that in this day and age making the choice to leave armpits hairy (for a woman) is also making a choice to be less attractive to both men and other women. Not a good move for someone who is single and wants to maximise their chances of meeting 'Mr Right'.

weinerdog 4 years ago

I despise underarm fur on my lady and myself. I am a male that thinks armpits are sexy and I know them to be erogenous zones. This is why my lady and I are clean shaven in the axilla and pubic areas. Who, when preforming sex play, wants a mouth full of hair? Actually, clean shaven, post workout, is the best.

Almorr 4 years ago

To weinerdog, I understand you despising women who have 'underarm fur' but why men as well, I would never dream of shaving under my arms, I do shave my face, what makes the difference between a man and a women is hair, hair is not dirty, I clean myself every day, including under my arms, I have never been accused of BO.

I personally have no problem with men having armpit hair as it seems so masculine, sadly it seems equally masculine on women lol. The title of this article is related to armpit hair 'on women', not armpit hair in general. My Hubby has plenty of hair everywhere except his head, but I think he would be seriously alarmed and turned off it I sported armpit hair as a 'feminine' woman.

ashleybunn profile image

ashleybunn 4 years ago from South Carolina

The way I see it, if men can walk around with armpit hair then women can, too. If you feel like shaving, shave. If you don't, don't! It's really that simple.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

In principle you are right ashleyburn, but in practice this is really a brave thing to do because as a woman with armpit hair you immediately reduce your chances of attracting a man, or being found attractive by men. This doesn't make them 'bad' men, but it is just a natural turn off for most men in the same way as body odour would be to most men or women looking for a mate. Essentially it looks plain nasty on a woman, and takes away her femininity.

ashleybunn profile image

ashleybunn 4 years ago from South Carolina

Personally, I find the concept of femininity and masculinity to be flawed. They're socially constructed. If females weren't meant to have armpit hair, we wouldn't be growing it. Whether or not you remove the hair from your body has no bearing whatsoever on how much of a man or how much of a woman you are. I feel sorry for those that remove the hair from their body for the sole purpose of attracting someone, or because society dictates that they should - they should be free enough from social constructs to make their own decisions.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Ahh, but life can seem a very long time if you are alone, or an object of ridicule. Personally I see it as like wearing make-up, it is down to the individual yes, but if you choose not to, then don't wonder why you are 'always the bridesmaid and never the bride'. If you have a lovely painting you wouldn't put it in a tatty wooden frame, you would put it into a frame worthy of the standard of the painting. Every woman wants to be seen to be attractive, and sadly underarm hair is not seen as being 'attractive' on a lady.

ashleybunn profile image

ashleybunn 4 years ago from South Carolina

But what is "attractive" varies from culture to culture, from person to person - it isn't something set in stone, and not "every woman" cares about whether or not they are viewed as conventionally physically attractive. The "to shave or not to shave" issue truly comes down to a matter of opinion - general, sweeping statements just don't work here.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

I guess this is just going to have to be decided on by the poll results. :)

ashleybunn profile image

ashleybunn 4 years ago from South Carolina

I don't believe that anything can be decided based on opinions - all you have are a group of opinions (which can neither be right nor wrong), and the most you can do is determine what the majority of people who answer felt.

Regardless, it was certainly an interesting hub and it was nice discussing & learning how you felt on the matter :) Take care!

Hello mistyhorizon2003, l Have been looking an opinion polls regarding arm pit hair on women, 20% keeps coming up in all these polls, 20% men like women with hair, 80% don't, strangely enough, its the same with women, about 20% of women say they have left there arm pit hair to nature, of course that means that 80% shave, but it of course varies from country to country.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Interesting point Almorr. What would be equally interesting would be to know if the 20% of men who do like armpit hair are dating or married to the 20% of women who don't shave, or if they are 'frustrated armpit hair lovers' married to shaven women.

almorr 4 years ago

Hi mistyhorizon2003, Guernsey, a lovely island to live, yes if a man is lucky and likes a women unshaved and meets her, say on a beach or a dance no problem, but if she refuses to shave and he dumps her, I think that is a bit shallow of him to do that. The women might have a lot of problems if she did shave, medical reasons such as red spots developing, so she prefers to just leave the hair alone, quite honestly all she needs to do is wear a short sleeve dress or top than a sleeveless dress or tank top, out of sight, out of mind.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Thanks for your further thoughts Almorr. I would agree it would be rather harsh for the man to dump a woman he had already fallen for on that basis, although unless it was for medical reasons she wasn't shaving I would think the woman was not all that keen on him if she didn't want to look good for him and make herself more attractive for him. The point about the short sleeve tops as opposed to tank tops or sleeveless dresses would work on a 'dating only' basis, but unless she is going to go to bed with him wearing short sleeve tops permanently, I can still see the hairy armpits being a 'turn off' for the guy in question, (no matter how much he likes her as a person.)

Gundar Gushamr 4 years ago

Women that don't shave are more in tune with reality therefore their personality seems more intelligent. They understand how much shaving underarm hair stresses the lymph node system. Love natural women. When in the company of a women that does not shave I am comfortable feeling like I am with a woman than a prepubescent teen.

AlMorr 4 years ago

O come on Gundar, to suggest that women who don't shave under arms are more intelligent and in tune with reality is talking nonsense, I agree that they probably have strong personalities and what you call the 'lymph node system'. It is a brave women who goes against the norm and stays natural, but I think she is taking a chance, as most men would eventually notice that she does not shave these parts of her. I can understand you thinking that a women who shaves her pit hair is like a prepubescent teen, but to me that applies to other parts of her body, not under her arms.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

I agree completely AlMorr and couldn't have put it better myself. Thanks for the comment.

Can I add that for the life of me I cannot imagine why shaving under the arms would 'stress the lymph node system'. Hair is a dead product and outside of the body, so nothing you do to it will affect the living tissue it grows from. It is a bit like the old wives tail that if you cut your hair regularly it grows faster. Of course it can't grow quicker as a result of being cut because it is a dead substance. It appears to grow faster because the blunt ends of newly cut hair will quickly show as becoming uneven as the hair grows, so giving the impression of faster growth.

almorr 4 years ago

Hello, I like this hub so much mistyhorizon2003, don't see many women in tank tops or in a sleeveless dress this not so beautiful wet rainy UK summer!! I notice the result of your opinion poll shows a surprising amount saying they think under arm hair on a woman is attractive, almost half and half. Personally I think it is unattractive, but dare I say it, looks quite sexy on SOME women, not all, if it had just been women who voted the result would have been 99% unattractive.

Al from Scotland

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Almorr, I too have noticed this, although I suspect this poll does not really produce accurate date because the average woman who doesn't have armpit hair is unlikely to be trawling the Internet looking for articles about whether armpit hair is attractive or not. The women who do have armpit hair however are looking for vindication for their decision to keep it, and want a platform to state their strong feelings about the right to keep their armpit hair. It is also true that some men have a bit of a fetish for armpit hair, so they too are looking for articles about it and come across this one. In both of these cases the readers are going to go with the vote in favour of armpit hair. I strongly suspect that if you stood in a shopping centre or a high street and stopped people randomly and asked them the same question, the results would be more like a 90/10 split against armpit hair as being attractive.

weylund profile image

weylund 4 years ago

In my case, I am an American male who's attracted to armpit hair on women. That's part of the reason my wife and I started dating in the first place, as she hates shaving with a passion. But, I do see the point made above. I was personally curious as to whether I was in the minority, but the polls on here are likely skewed. While I've seen my share of women who don't shave - whether at the mall or the beach - the ratio probably is more like 90/10 against. So, while I may be strange in the current cultural climate, the fact is that we all come with body hair, and the whole shaving phenomenon hasn't been around that long - perhaps with a few notable exceptions in antiquity.

almorr 4 years ago

Mistyhorizon, I have stood in shopping centre's and high streets, but I would not dare ask any women that. But I have observed, that is looked with the corner of my eye discreetly to see if any women does have unshaved pits. The 90/10 against is correct, the vast majority of women do shave their arm pits

Like weylund, my wife is one who has never shaved her arm pit hairs, she is attractive and sexy, not fat or anything like that, she simply thinks that shaving is for men and thinks that the hair is there for a purpose like you wife does.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Almorr, lol, I guess it might seem an odd question to stop women in a shopping centre or a high street and ask. Perhaps it would be more acceptable if you were armed with a clip board and told them it was an official survey for Gillette Razors or something.

A bit concerned by your last sentence "and thinks that the hair is there for a purpose like you wife does.", I am a woman and haven't got a Wife, plus I do shave my armpits. Yep, just checked, I am still definitely a woman ;)

Except hairs on chest, beard and mustaches on upper lip of males, the rest of all body hair of either human gender from childhood to adulthood, is truly 'feminine' in character since both male and female babies are delivered by women only. Just as vegetation to the earth, hairs as matrixed in various textures and structures are natural to women and humanity they reproduce and sustain.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Technically you are of course correct sastry.M, but as a species our intelligence level has made us form opinions on various things, e.g. fashion, foods and of course armpit hair, in a way other creatures don't. Whether we like it or not the 'opinion' formed by the majority is that armpit hair on a woman looks unfeminine compared to clean shaven underarms.

Sastry.M 4 years ago

@mistyhorizon2003,

While thanking your apt suggestion, we observe presently increasing role of women in many fields of human services apart from the fundamental procreative motherhood ordained by natural creation. Our intellect and intelligence relate to dynamic characteristics of human mind, which in itself is created to as part of human species. As a rough comparison we can relate human brain with CPU computer hardware which rational in construction to almost all human species. The operative user programs, however vary according to individual characteristics of different people and cannot be rationally defined. Many continental Europeans are opinionated to take women wearing pit hair as part of natural order and thus neutral in reaction with no hatred or appreciation. While rest of all living species live as physically created, only human minds are prompted repeatedly to consider what is aesthetic and beautiful what is ugly and abhorring. Just as a majority vote of UNESCO reps of all member nations cannot wishfully change the gravitational pull of the earth, the same naturally patented human structures are basically programed and created symbolic to human species. Tender minds of young children reaching puberty are hate instilled to consider what is beautiful and what is ugly while all other species may entertain jealousy for food but never hate of their physical forms.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

All that said, I still don't think the majority like armpit hair on women, and they probably won't change their opinions in a hurry (purely because of their instincts.) In chimp society picking their noses and eating the results, homosexual activities between male chimps as a display of hierarchy and submission etc etc are perfectly acceptable. What you describe essentially endorses this activity as something humans should accept also. As you probably know, chimps are only about 1% different in DNA to humans.

I don't believe this is about instilling 'hate' into individuals towards those women with armpit hair. This is about what is considered attractive to the majority, i.e. I don't hate a woman with armpit hair, and nor would my Husband, but asked if we found this choice attractive we would both agree to a 'definite no, not at all'. Basically it comes down to 'trust your instincts', if it feels unattractive in a potential partner, then don't feel you need to force yourself to 'like it' or 'accept it' because it is considered the politically correct thing to do.

What an interesting Hub. I agree with other commenters that, were it not for whoever had the smarts to invent the honed rock/razor/shaver, we'd all of us humans be as hairy as the mythical Yeti, (and quite possibly engaged in the pursuit of some mythical human-like creature allegedly distinguishable by the total absence of full-bodied hirsuteness). Such is the nature of our fickleness...

However, I digress. On the topic at hand (well, I hope not actually, as that's often a sign of something completely different, particularly amongst members of the nautical services, both merchant and military), I must say that my personal predeliction is for a woman to sport a range of follicular options. I like long lustrous hair, but only on heads, not arms, armpits, upper lips, noses, ears, backs, legs - and definitely not feet. Elsewhere, variety, as is so often the case, can add the spice on which an enjoyable life depends. Especially an enjoyable sex life. But I do admit that there are certain 'formes' or consistencies that if absent, would unnnerve me. For instance, I'd be put off by an encounter with a woman sporting (or not, if you get my drift) a full Brazilian, but who compensated for such with a proverbial rainforest of growth in her armpits. Or any of those other body areas that fall within my own personal classification of 'verboten'.

The 'elsewhere' to which I refer is of course the key area of a woman's external anatomical features where variety can be, and often is expressed in the choice of individual follicular fashion. And attractive they all are, pleasing to the eye of any man, and not a few women, from total hairlessness through the arrowhead, the landing strip, the close but not prickly trim, et al.. I personally draw the line on braiding, but that may just be me..

This brings me to an aspect that has not been canvassed in your article nor in any of the comments as far as I can see. That being the matter of tactility. I'd suggest that although (shallow creatures that we are) most opinions expressed here relate solely to the visual perspective of hair in all the wrong places, there are also wonderfully tactile surprises and delights available to us, especially in the just mentioned area of the pubis... Many a man has experienced the thrill of discovery after a sustained effort at putting his hand where his eyes have not yet been, when the furry covering, or indeed absence of such, reveals its particular textural qualities, and through its warmth and (ed; cut that part) hints at the promise of what may be yet to come.... It's not called the furry magnet for nothing, after all.

In closing, I am reminded of the story from the 60's of the young couple parked in Lovers Lane. Just as the young man's inquisitive hand reached the destination referred to above, a police car pulled into the lane, catching the lovers in the sweep of its headlights. "Shit" he exclaimed,"Fuzz." To which the young lady responded. Well, what were you expecting? A ponytail?"

Honestly WO, that is absolutely the funniest comment this hub has received yet, especially the part where you said "I like long lustrous hair, but only on heads, not arms, armpits, upper lips, noses, ears, backs, legs - and definitely not feet. Elsewhere, variety, as is so often the case, can add the spice on which an enjoyable life depends. Especially an enjoyable sex life. But I do admit that there are certain 'formes' or consistencies that if absent, would unnnerve me. For instance, I'd be put off by an encounter with a woman sporting (or not, if you get my drift) a full Brazilian, but who compensated for such with a proverbial rainforest of growth in her armpits.".

Totally brilliant, I am still laughing now.

I say to each his own. If you like armpit hair , so be it. Find a woman (I know of none) who have it. I personally think it is a sign of laziness on the womans part. But I won't knock someone who desires it.

Thanks for your thoughts Amberjewell, interesting perspective that it is 'laziness on the woman's part' and not one I had considered. I guess in many instances this could be the case though.

this is (as i always find with your hubs) a good one-- and while I'm not for armpit hair on women as many have said to each their own. I suppose it's a personal taste, but I think it's all a part of trying to be the best you can be, and it doesn't show you are at your "best" (at least to me) if you don't try to keep looking as good as you can be.

I personally can't see myself shaving my armpit hair because it must be itchy and unpleasant to do that. So if I as a man don't feel the need or impulsion to shave my under arms, why should a woman? I've never seen the whole need for bikini area shaving either. Live and let live, says I.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Mr Love Doctor. Actually it isn't at all itchy or unpleasant to shave your armpit hair, (many male athletes do this as a matter of course). I personally feel that for men armpit and body hair is appropriately masculine, but on a woman it is far from attractive, (even to most men who have the appropriate amount of masculine body hair).

Hello Mistyhorizon, I am sure you don't mind if a man like me has never shaved any hairs off his body ever, apart form face, but do you think like I think that apart from some athletes such as professional cyclists and swimmers, any other men that do that are just plain effeminate or just plain sissy, I know that I am probably being a bit harsh as I am of, well the older generation, in the 70's and 80's men who shaved anything apart from face were actually considered 'queer', I know that attitudes have moved on, but I still think that apart from sportsmen, men who shave their body hair off are a bit strange to say the least.

kind regards

Al

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Interesting point Al, I certainly understand why male athletes would need to shave body hair, e.g. to enhance streamlining, but I don't really see why other men would need to unless they had a partner who particularly loathed body hair. For example, my Husband has an incredibly hairy back, which I have to say is not what I consider a particularly attractive look. I have no issues with hairy chests, arms etc on a man, but like many women I find the overly hairy back somewhat of a 'turn off'. When I met my Hubby he periodically had been getting it waxed, (even prior to meeting me), and clearly he was a bit self conscious over it therefore (I am guessing other women may have previously made the 'ewwwwww' noises when they first saw it). Over time he has now stopped ever getting it waxed, and I have to say it is a little bit like going to bed with a man in a gorilla suit, especially as he is very hairy on his legs, bottom etc too, (in fact everywhere except the neck upwards). On that basis I would therefore not think it was 'effeminate or sissy' to get the hair removed from the back and bottom. However, for a man to shave/wax his legs, chest or arms without an athletic need to, or for the love of a partner who hates it, I would find that rather strange and a bit weird.

Hope that answers your question.

Regards

Cindy (mistyhorizon2003)

Well said Cindy, my full first name is Alan, a year ago my son gave me a computer and told me to use the name AlMorr, anyway you should be proud that you are married to what I call 'a real man' , he sounds to be a nice guy ,nothing to be ashamed of in a man having a hairy back, I also have back hair and very hairy shoulders, chest, arms and legs, which by the way I have never waxed or trimmed. I have never been ashamed of my body hair since it started growing when I was in my early teens, I have had quite a few comments, at least people notice it.

Yes you have answered my question fully.

Hi Alan, thanks for coming back to explain more about your experience with body hair. My Hubby is lovely, and I am kind of used to the hairiness of his back now, so it doesn't really worry me that he doesn't get it waxed any more. He inevitably gets a bit of lighthearted teasing over it, but I don't see it as a problem.

Catch up again soon no doubt :)

Hi Cindy, I also correspond with another Hubber, call 'Strictlydating' she is from Australia ,if you type in "he shaved everything" on the huppage website and scroll down to the hub to 'about 7 months ago' the hub starts "Like Steven" from then onwards I tell striktlydating all about myself, it gets to the point further down that I feel that I have hijacked her page because some young men are actually asking ME questions about hair growth on their chests, however striktlydating congratulates me on contributing on her hub in advising these young men on a mans point of view rather than hers or a woman's in general. You and striklydating are my favorite people that I like corresponding with.

Thanks Alan, I will definitely check out her hub. The name 'strictlydating' sounds familiar so I am guessing I have corresponded with her before on either my hubs or hers.

I have a hub on the Ginger Beer Plant and how to re-create it that has developed into a mini community too. At least three visitors are regulars and exchange comments, suggestions, questions etc amongst the group. I like this as it adds value to the hub and encourages new information to be included from other sources.

It is great to have people like you visiting my hubs on a regular basis, and I agree with 'strictlydating' that it is important to have the man's point of view as well as the womans.

Hope you catch up with you again soon.

Hi Alan, I wouldn't honestly pay too much attention to Hubpage scores on any matter, including commenting levels. Off the top of my head I have no idea what my commenter score is, and really I don't care as it is unimportant, (just another way for Hubpages to try to manipulate us into spending more time on a page, therefore making them look better in the eyes of Google).

Hey, Linda McCartney was a hairy lady (of course, her armpits were no exception). But Paul fell for her -- it was just beyond physical appearance. Or is it that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, maybe Paul was turned on by that hairiness.

Great hub. i'll vote this up. :)

@ talfonso, I have been shaving my armpits for years, but on the occasions I leave it three or four days and don't, I can't say I have ever had any irritation so you might want to give it a go. Personally I believe the men who say 'it is sexy' have a bit of a fetish for it in general, and probably actively seek out partners who will agree not to shave their armpits in order to 'humour them'.

Glad you really liked the hub, and thanks for the 'up' vote :)

Hi Cindy Alan here to just tell you that as you know the summer in the UK has not been very good this year, however, in the couple of days that is was sunny, I saw a lot of women in sleeveless tank top vests and dresses. I did not see one lady with hairy arm pits. When I look at women, its with the corner of my eye, I don't know if I should be disappointed or not, though I think that you will be pleased with my observations. I think it depends on the women, if she has a light covering of hair OK, but the one at the top of the page is a bit too hairy, even for my liking.

Regards.

Hi Alan, yes, here in Guernsey the weather has been rubbish too, mostly rain and not nearly enough sun. Fortunately I have not had the misfortune of seeing any 'hairy armpits' during this summer either, (nor did I want to). I suppose a bit of stubble where a shave is due is not so bad. but a veritable forest of hair awaiting 'mowing' is very distasteful, and thankfully I managed to avoid this :)

Almorr 4 years ago

Hello Cindy, there is a difference between a woman not shaving her arm pit hair, say for 3 days and a man not shaving his face for that length of time. I have never put it to the test regarding my under arm hair or anywhere else on my body, never waxed or trimmed a hair ever, but I did let my 'bristle hair' on my face grow for 3 days about a year ago to find out how fast I could maybe grow a beard, the bristles did grow quite quickly but it was so rough, spiky and uncomfortable that I said to myself 'never again', OK I could grow a thick beard in a month, but I am not going to, I am hairy enough elsewhere, so I am clean shaved, I feel better that way, have to shave at least once a day to keep things tidy.

Regards to you and your husband

Alan from Scotland.

Hi Alan, I must admit I am not a fan of facial hair on men personally, mainly because it seems to get up my nose when I go to kiss them (well it used to in the days when I dated a couple of men who sported facial hair). I also always view beards and moustaches as places for food, tobacco etc to get trapped, in other words very unhygienic.

Hope you are well.

And deodorant is used just the same and does the same. I came here and learned to shave it. Not for one second I ever thought about underarm hair being sexy or not - cannot relate to it in terms of being sexy or not. Yet, I have to make one statement - when a woman has a lot of underarm hair it looks better to either minimize it or shave it completely.

Hi yssubramanyam, I don't really understand your comment as it is clear English is not your first language. If I am correct in how I understand your comment I disagree with it. As a woman you can shave every two or three days and still have smooth underarms, whereas you seem to think even once a day would not be enough to keep smooth underarms (which is totally incorrect). As for women not being able to handle a razor in 'such a complicated area', assuming you mean the underarms you are severely mistaken and very wrong. In this area women will be far more superior to men in their shaving skills for obvious reasons, i.e. it is women who normally shave there, men don't in general! The rest of your comment does not make any sense to me in English, i.e. "but hesitate to express due to false decency. i will sincerely shave if some woman want . with ou having any dirty thought in mind. because i love to do it. i am free and frank.", I am afraid this actually doesn't translate into anything in English that makes any sense, so you might want to reword it in grammatically correct English so people know what it is you are trying to say.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

The key question to vote on is really the first one though, as this determines whether or not armpit hair is considered attractive or not. As you clearly don't think it is attractive, I urge you to vote accordingly, as too many people visiting this article are finding it because they actually 'like' armpit hair, therefore the voting is proving to be a bit 'skewed' as a result. Votes from people who have no fetishes in this direction etc, will help redress the balance.

Thanks :)

Hi Cindy, I also have been trying to translate what yssubramanyam means in that post, I have read it several times, I think she means that in both places, under arms and 'down there' it is OK for a woman just to leave things to nature.

I have been corresponding with a man from Cleveland Ohio, he has a hub on hubpages with the heading ""Run its hairy arm guy"", his name is Rickzimmerman. He draws cartoons about all sorts of things to do with hair, I mentioned this hub and the one to Australia, he wrote back saying that he would try a cartoon of some woman with hairy arm pits, I could not help laughing when he said that 'I have my own hair net-work' LOL Yes all those letters about hair, I suppose I do, its just Cindy that I have been fascinated by body hair since I myself became hairy in my teens.

What is important is the woman herself, isn't it ? Her looks, her personality, the way she carries herself, the interest of her conversation, etc...If she lets her armpit hair grow, there is probably some reason behind it. If it grosses you out, just walk away. If it doesn't, then this is not an issue. In any case, it is extremely rare, these days to see a woman with armpit hair, even in Europe. And remember that there was a time when every woman had armpit hair, even in the US, the same way there was a time guys didn't show their underwear

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

But surely 'her looks' include her armpit hair, which for most people is abhorrent, therefore she is 'selling herself short' in terms of her potential to look good. Let's face it, if a woman had a superb personality and was a stunning looker, but chose not to wash, or chose never to have her hair cut, or chose to let her toenails grow to a horrendous length, everyone would sympathise with the potential partner and say "no wonder she can't find/keep a man". No matter how great her 'conversation, personality etc", she might find that Mr Right who thought she was the woman of his dreams runs a mile when she unfortunately shows off the fact she has a forest of hair under her arms.

austinhealy profile image

austinhealy 4 years ago from Treasure Coast, Florida

OK Mistyhorizon, let me ask you this : there is a fairly new trend which consists of men removing hair on their chest. Does that mean that in let's say 20 years it will be considered as a lack of personal hygiene for a man to have hair on his chest, when it's been that way forever until recently. I am not being an advocate of armpit hair for women, I am merely saying that if I met a woman interesting enough to be a potential partner, armpit hair wouldn't be a big issue for me. In other words, I would never let Mrs Right get away because she has armpit hair, because it wouldn't outweigh her qualities in my opinion. In the most extreme case, if it would eventually bother me, I would try to tactfully bring up the subject, and we could work on a compromise lol, the last time I checked, that was the way relationships worked. Change of subject :What kind of weather do you currently have in Guernsey ?

Cheers !

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

I would have to argue that a hairy chest on a man is not the same as a hairy armpit on a woman, not least because of the sweat getting trapped under arms, but not on the flat open surface of a chest from which it can easily evaporate, therefore I would not say it could be considered as a lack of personal hygiene for a man to have a hairy chest. In fact even if a woman washed under her hairy armpits a couple of times a day at least it would make them unhygienic unless they were in a hot climate or it was hot weather, in which case she would probably be fighting a losing battle.

I admire the fact it wouldn't put you off Mrs Right, but if at a later date it began to bother you and you then brought up the subject in order to try and reach a compromise, wouldn't that cause problems too, i.e. you were now trying to change her as opposed to accepting her for the person she was when you met her? Just a thought, but it occurs to me that once the initial glow of a new relationship wears off is when the flaws (no matter how minor) begin to get on each others nerves, and then the cracks begin to appear and before you know it you are going your separate ways.

Weather here is actually sunny and warm today, but in recent weeks has been awful, wet, rainy, cold and windy. The summer overall was terrible, and we only had about four weeks of reasonable weather altogether. Worst summer in God knows how many decades.

I have deleted your comment Majid based on the fact a virtually (if not identical) comment (probably from you) was made some time back and was covered in the responses and in this article.

Women do not 'need' armpit hair,

The odour is not necessarily 'natural' and is frequently body odour,

To consider it 'sexy' is an opinion, not a fact as you have stated,

Armpit hair on a woman is not a sign of 'health' at all, (as for the confidence, well that is misplaced unless she is not looking for a relationship or is simply stubborn about keeping it),

Women with armpit hair are not necessarily 'intelligent' (there is no scientific connection and this is a ridiculous thing to say),

Hairy armpits may be a 'turn on' for you, but that does not mean the same applies for all men (look at the polls in this article),

Shaving with a proper razor is incredibly unlikely to ever produce an 'ingrowing hair', (I am 42 and have never had one yet, nor do I know any woman that has had this problem),

As for the comment regarding a man who won't date a women with armpit hair being 'immature' and 'not deserving a girlfriend', that is ridiculous in the extreme.

You really need to stop reciting the same old comment again and again, and instead consider the fact that your comment is wildly inaccurate and based mostly on your personal opinions stated as apparent facts (even though they are not).

Alan here, I think the translation of the lady from India is, (I've been up all night working it out LOL ) She feels she is free to shave or not too shave under her arms, she feels more 'decent' in shaving than not shaving , well Cindy I think that is what she means.

Hi Alan, don't worry, I guessed you weren't serious about being up all night on it lol.

Yes, Mum was an excellent singer, and whilst I can't claim to ever hope to be as good, I can sing too. It is nice to know you too have an interest in music and that you enjoy the classical side particularly. I like all sorts of music including classical, and can listen to anything from Meat Loaf to Roger Whittaker quite happily. :)

Hi Christin53, thanks for your feedback. I don't really mind it on men, and I find chest hair quite manly, (although when it starts to become a bit too 'all over' I like it less). With regards to the hairy armpits and how there would be 'a lot of smelly men around' if that were the case, you make a good point. The only way I can explain it is that I wonder if women with hairy armpits generally care less about their appearance, and therefore possibly less about the personal hygiene side of things. What I can say is many of the women I have met with hairy armpits are more masculine in nature, and maybe take a more 'butch' attitude to whole 'smelling feminine' thing. I most certainly have met a few such women in my life who definitely had that rather sweet, sickly and unpleasant BO smell about them. Another possibility is this is related to the difference in hormones between men and women, and that this could affect the likelihood of a noticeable odour developing more easily than it would on a man. Just a few thoughts of my own, I am not claiming to know the answer, but I have only occasionally come across men with a BO problem and hairy 'pits', and usually the men have not had any odour because they showered enough to avoid the nasty bacteria that causes the odour to build up.

This is a very interesting hub with some brilliant comments. I personally don't like to have under arm hair and I shave once a fortnight but I'm fairly lucky in that it takes a very very long time to grow anything there. As for hair on men, that's fine but if then grow long hair anywhere I prefer it to be trimmed just to keep everything manageable.

Yes very true TyeshaMatthews, the same way some women like to grow their head hair long, and others keep it cut short. The thing is that with 'personal hair' such as armpit hair, what do the majority like or dislike and why, (hence the poll). Everyone has choices of course, but if the majority find hairy armpits very unattractive why would anyone want to 'keep them' unless it is to prove some kind of point, or make some kind of statement?

I personally don't get it. I clicked on the title of the article because I was interested in the argument, but as soon as I saw the picture above, I was immediately turned off. I really can't say why, I just am. And, I'm a guy who thinks some woman can really pull off having a bald head (though not my preference).

I do have a question for women who like/have hairy armpits: Sooooo, what...would you groom the pits still? Fix them up a little? Would it add to the two hours spent getting ready already? Just some questions for fun, not to be taken as serious pokes or anything.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi 'SpeakUpStandOut', I wouldn't worry too much about the poll figures as you have to bear in mind the majority of people tend not to be looking for articles on this topic unless they are keen on either having a woman with armpit hair, or are women who have armpit hair because they are trying to make some kind of 'statement' about their independence. Odds are this will 'skew' the results somewhat and that in reality most people do not like armpit hair on women.

Hi Cindy, another interesting letter from our friend in India, yssubramanyam. I have a very hairy neck, I usually shave it every 2 weeks between going to the hairdresser every 2 months, but because of the cold weather I have decided just to let the neck hair grow out until I go to the hairdresser at the beginning of December, by then the fuzz hairs will be very thick and she will have to work for her money, in fact as it is December I will give her a Xmas tip. Hi Cindy, I cannot say that I like the smell of under the arms the least bit, when I have been out a cycle run I always when I get home use body spray under them and wash them to stop people saying that I have BO, I don't think it would make any difference if I shaved off the hairs, the smell would still be there.

Regards

Alan

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Alan, you would still have a smell for sure, even without hairs, the difference is that the sweat, and therefore the smell is trapped more in hair than on bare skin. By shaving it minimises any odour that would otherwise be much more noticeable. I also still feel women seem to be more prone to BO from hairy armpits than men appear to be, and my 'hormone differences' theory may well be the explanation.

Cindy

Hello Cindy, it seems to have gone a bit quite now, so I thought I would tell you about a party I was at many years ago at New Year. One of the girls suggested that us guys should strip off down to our waist to see who had the hairiest chest, OK I thought, I could be the winner here, but I told this girl, 'you must count all the hairs on the men's chest, she agreed. So one by one we took our cloths off, one man had no hairs at all, a few had about 10 hairs, when I took my cloths off, she gasped, ' O my goodness, I'll never be able to count all that lot, your like a werewolf', I told her to start counting the hairs on my chest' , of course she got to a 100 and gave up, I was declared the winner. Later in the evening she got a bit drunk and asked to see how hairy I was '"down there" I of course refused.

Hope you and your husband are keeping well

Kind regards,

Alan from Scotland

LOL, great story Alan. Yes things are a bit quiet in here right now, but it appears to be the same across most of my articles so it could just be a 'time of year' thing, or it could be Google playing 'silly buggars' with their search engine results algorithm again.

All well here (thanks for asking), just a bit sniffly due to a sudden allergy I seem to have developed to our neighbour's cat. Strange as I am normally fine with him, and I am not having any problems with my own cats. The neighbour is away right now so her cat is spending quite a bit of time round our place, but thankfully she is back this week so hopefully he will spend a bit more time at home and my allergy can wear off again.

Hope all is well with you too.

Cindy, what a coincidence, my daughter Gillian is expecting her first baby in December and she has given me her two cats to look after while she and her husband get ready for the arrival of her baby girl, I just hope I do not get any allergy from her cats, so far OK, I do have a cat of my own, she is called Kitty and is 17 years old, that's quite old for a cat, but since my wife died nearly 3 years ago, I look after Kitty very well indeed. I am sure you will get over your allergy quickly.

Thanks Alan, allergy has worn off a bit now, but I am not letting him in my bedroom or on my lap which seems to have helped. 17 is a good age for your cat, but she may have a few years in her yet, when I worked at the vets we had one cat on our books that was 23!!! Congrats to your daughter by the way, I would love a baby, but there is something wrong with my internal plumbing (won't go into details suffice to say it is very unlikely it will ever happen even if I could afford IVF, and time is running out bearing in mind my age). Always lovely to hear someone else has been blessed with a baby on the way :)

Hairy 4 years ago

mistyhorizon2003 11 months ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)Hub Author

I am afraid it isn't just my opinion 'Hairy', and most men appear to find these a huge turn off and the 'smell of a woman's moist armpits on a hot day' is also known as BO, (Body Odour, not pleasant).

I honestly don't see the connection between a 'confident intelligent woman' and this being more likely with 'Body hair' nor is there any evidence to link the two together that I am aware of!

I can always add a poll to this article if you want proof of the fact most men dislike hairy armpits on a woman. Give it a couple of months and I think you will see the results prove the point.

Hairy

Have you now changed your opinion.

You will see from your own poll that most men do not object to a woman leaving armpit hair alone and most would not be put off dating a woman displaying unshaven armpits.

A hairy woman is more likely to be respected by men than other women

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

I strongly suggest you read the comments here thoroughly as it has already been determined that the majority of people (like yourself) who look for articles on armpit hair are already fans of it, therefore the results of any poll are very likely to be 'skewed' because of this (something I confess I hadn't considered when I put up the poll). Bearing in mind the results on the first question in the polls (particularly) is extremely close and only 618 people have voted so far, I am guessing that if the same poll was placed in an article that was nothing to do with armpit hair on women, and therefore attracted a broader audience, you would suddenly find a massively different vote in favour of men not liking women with armpit hair.

Ask your male friends if you don't believe me when I say most men don't fancy women with hairy armpits.

My underarm hair is gorgeous! Even though my hair in general is dark, my underarm hair is sparse and golden. I have enough confidence in myself to leave my underarms fuzzy, and I really don't care what anyone else thinks about it. Personally, I think the full-on pit hair is much more attractive than that awful stubble that grows in minutes after shaving. Plus I'm lazy, and the endless shaving of that hair is not worth my time. And you know what? My husband doesn't care; as it turns out, having underarm hair doesn't detract from the fact that I have a working vagina.

I trust that you now find men to be much more mature than you thought and a small majority prefer women with armpit hair and a majority would not be put off having relationship with woman displaying her armpit hair

Do you realise you are in a minority. Join the hairy women,Cindy and through away the razers

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 4 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Hairy,

I think I also explained before that the results of the poll are bound to be 'skewed' because of the topic of the hub being about armpit hair on women, and that this makes it a hub most likely to be searched for by people who are 'pro armpit hair' as opposed to the majority of average people who it wouldn't even occur to to look for an article of this nature. I had forgotten to factor this in when I suggested a poll would be a good idea to prove the opinion of the majority. If this poll were on a popular article on a completely unrelated topic e.g. pet care, recipes, UFOs etc, then I am certain the results would be much more clear cut against women with armpit hair. Also bearing in mind the votes (even on this hub which will draw in readers who are looking for validation of their decision to keep armpit hair) are incredibly close, I think this gives a very clear indication that on a neutral hub or article the votes would be massively higher against armpit hair on women.

I for one am definitely sticking with the razors and the subsequent clean feeling a smooth armpit leaves you with.

You have certainly stirred up a few opinions here, with such a seemingly simple question. The feminist side of me wants to shout out "Hair is natural, what's wrong with it? How dare you even question this?" However, the vain side of me still wants to have smooth hairless armpits! I like to think of it as a personal choice, along with how to do our hair, what to wear etc., rather than it being a result of conforming to social stereotypes.

I have had boyfriends who weren't at all bothered by it, but I prefer the clean shaven look myself :)

Hi Saloca, I feel the same as you, I so wish it wouldn't grow back :)

almorr 3 years ago

Hello Cindy. interesting point from Saloca wishing hair would not grow back, I sometimes wish the hair on the back of my neck would not grow back so quickly, I have to use my shaver every fortnight to shave the hair off, otherwise I just get so uncomfortable with it there, just one of the drawbacks for us hairy men. You have already said in your post that you do not mind a man with hairy arm pits, as long as he washes and cleans his arm pits regularly.

Alan

I honestly find it quite disturbing and a bit disgusting (even though it is natural).

I agree with the comment about it showing a lack of hygiene but it does not only show a lack of hygiene, it also shows serious laziness (In my opinion).

Thanks for your comment Neinahpets, I am not worried about it on forearms as at least it won't end up smelly there. I suppose if it was very dark hair on the forearms it could look rather unattractive though.

Not sure I understood much of that yssubramamnyam, but thanks for commenting anyway (I would strongly suggest you don't trust translation software as it usually produces very inaccurate results unless you use very expensive programs).

Alan 3 years ago

Hi Cindy, yssubramanyam our friend in India means that women who have armpit hair are beautiful and natural, I hope you are keeping well. I just discovered a Internet site called "The Hairy Pit Club" now ladies in this club all have stopped shaving in the last couple of months or years and they all say that they feel 'liberated' 'free' and most are never going to shave again, I know you do not agree with any of them, some of the ladies look quite sexy, others as you would say "disgusting" but that common theme of freedom and liberty runs right through that particular hub, even a lot of younger women, teenagers say the same thing that they have been too much taken in by all the grooming ads and just want to be like men and be natural, interesting thoughts from those mainly younger ladies.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan, hope you are well and lovely to hear from you. Thanks for the information, I think I'll give the site a miss though, can't be doing with all that 'feminist' type attitude of 'we don't care what we look like because we are independent women'. Call me old fashioned, but I like to look my best and groomed in order to appear attractive. I love it when a man holds open a door for me or pulls out my chair for me to sit down. I am impressed by a gentleman who rejects my offer to pay for a drink or a meal and insists on doing so. I honestly believe it is a sad day when women have so little interest in looking extra nice for either the opposite sex, or even for their own self respect.

Catch up soon

Cindy

men are used to clean armpits, why do they like bushy hair on other area? it is made fancy by woman, the practice must be left to independent minds alone. please make it clear regarding translation. it is not clear to me. it is well Indianian English. i love..

keirnanholland profile image

Yes, the dog in the picture is a girl, she's the dog of my ex-gf who was in fact hairy.. The dog's name was Mila after the town "Milagro" in New Mexico. The picture was taken on the Valle Grande, behind the Los Alamos, Ski Hill. She ended up marrying a chinese guy, and chinese people tend to be quite hairy, at least I've heard this is true of the southern Chinese. Two Chinese grad students told me this, so it must be a stereotype that is perpetuated in China.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi again yssubramanyam, no offence intended, but your comments tend to be in really bad (and therefore hard to understand) English. It makes it really hard to work out what you are trying to say. I am guessing at what you are trying to say in your most recent comment, but assume you mean that men like clean shaven armpits, but like hairy 'lower' areas (which actually is far from true as most men do not like 'other areas overgrown and hairy either). I really have no idea what you mean by "It is made fancy by women" as this doesn't mean anything in English. Yes women with 'independent minds' can make their own decisions, but should not expect to be found attractive by most men (especially western men) if their choice is to be 'hairy'.

To answer your final question about making it clear regarding translation, well, most of your words just do not read sensibly in English, and even your final sentence about it being 'well Indianian English. i love' means literally nothing, as it might as well be in a language that does not exist, and certainly to an English person they would be left wondering what you were trying to say. Is it possible for you to get an English speaking friend to help you word your comments so that we can communicate more easily in future?

Hi Alan,

Really cold here right now, but hey ho, I am off to Tenerife for two weeks from Saturday where it is between 19 and 24 degree Celsius. Right now snow about 4-8 inches deep depending on where you are, so had a fun time driving my jeep into town to pick up hubby from work (no salt or grit on the roads). Got back having only slid a couple of times, and wiped out a small temp road sign and a traffic cone (no big deal, just drove over them and carried on going lol). Weather supposed to improve from Wednesday, so should be good for flying on Saturday.

Stay safe and enjoy the sun :)

Well natural girl, ultimately it is up to you, but the majority of men will tell you openly they don't like women with 'hairy pits' or too much hair in the 'lower areas', although the polls on this article tend to offer misleading results because the nature of this article attracts a certain kind of person who tends to have a bit of a 'fetish' for hairy armpits (and no doubt lower down too). A better gauge would be to ask a random selection of male friends and see what they say, in which case you will most likely find that in the western world men prefer ladies to look like ladies, and therefore not overly hairy in certain places.

So sorry to hear this Alan. I used to work in a couple of vets surgeries as an assistant (never a vet sadly). my mom has armpit hairs and so do I and my daughter. We tried to shave them but the hair grows even coarser and darker. We have armpit odor which smells bad so we shave them often. Tried many cosmetics and cream stuff to remove but failed. Hence, we just pretend that our armpit hairs are essential to make ourselves unique !

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Lol Peachpurple, nice to see someone with a good sense of humour on this ;)

PS. For those who take the above comment seriously, it is important to note that shaving cannot in any way make hairs 'darker' and the hairs would only be 'coarser' because of the sharp edge shaving leaves on the hair (as soon as the hairs grow through, drop out and are replaced, the new ones will be just as soft feeling as previously).

renga 3 years ago

Armpit hair is required for both men and women. There is no need of shaving the hairyarmpit. If we start shaving them, it will start growing fastly. Women with hairy armpit really looks more attractive and sexy. I want to view more hairypit women photos. Can I see this?

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Renga, I am afraid you are wrong about several things here, firstly armpit hair is not required on men and women at all, secondly hair is dead, therefore no matter what you do it it (including shaving or cutting it) it will not grow back any faster (this is scientific fact), and thirdly women certainly don't look more attractive and sexy with hairy armpits unless you have a fetish for that kind of thing. Afraid if you want to look at more hairy armpit pictures you will have to look elsewhere e.g. Google Search.

Hello Cindy, your friend from Scotland, I hope you are enjoying the lovely summer of 2013, beautiful weather we are having here in Scotland, sometimes it is a bit too hot, 28c is way above the normal for Scotland. However, all the ladies I have seen have been wearing sleeveless dresses and tank tops, and to be honest (you will like this) I have not seen one woman with hairy arm pits, all the ladies I have seen have NO hair under there arms, I bet that is good news for you. I hope you and your husband are enjoying the good weather as well

Regrads

Alan

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Lol Alan, yes it is good news that the ladies your way have shaved their armpits and appreciate the fact this looks much nicer than the hairy variety (especially considering the potential for BO in this heat).

Hope all is well with you too. All good here thanks, although my potatoes have got potato blight (I discovered it today). Just spent over three hours organising a 'back pack sprayer', cutting off the diseased foliage, fighting to get the sprayer to work properly, spraying the healthy remains of my plants with Dithane 945 to (hopefully) slow down the disease somewhat, spray my still healthy tomatoes to prevent the spores spreading on to them and then put all the relevant containers back into their original positions. Horrendous task, but I just need the potatoes to stay alive another couple of weeks to ensure I have some decent sized tubers for the local show, after that I am not so worried.

Best wishes

Cindy

kiernan holland 3 years ago

Probably the reason arm pits are so smelly if hairy is that the hair increases the surface area and the sweat that runs into it, dissipates heat when the breeze blows through it.. So if you used underarm deoderant...

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Sweat actually doesn't smell at all though Kiernan, it is the bacteria that feed/breed on sweat that make it smell. The hair traps the sweat, hence providing a perfect breeding/feeding ground for bacteria to multiply. Deoderant would help hide the smell, but not remove the actual bacteria, merely hide the evidence of their presence. Yuck!

almorr 3 years ago

In that case Cindy do you think men should shave their arm pit hair? As you know I do a lot of cycling, I will admit that there is that usual smell from them when I get home, I ALWAYS wash and use deoderant when I get home. Being a man I do have hairy arm pits, but as you have stated in previous posts that is OK for a man, as long as he washes and cleans them, which I always do. Do you think men should actually shave the hair off?

Regards

Alan

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Alan, well if you are going to wash as soon as you get home then you don't need to shave your armpits, plus I feel it takes away a man's masculinity if they do (whereas you don't want a woman to retain any masculinity). I strongly feel however that on women it is just plain ugly and totally not sexy, plus I notice the BO problem seems to rear its ugly head far more on women with hairy armpits than it does with men for some reason.

Regards

Cindy

almorr 3 years ago

Hi Cindy, thank you for your reply, like the way you say 'it takes away a man's masculinity' I do have very hairy arm pits, shoulders, legs, chest, etc, I like to think I am masculine. Interesting that you say the BO problem seems to rear its ugly head more on women with hairy arm pits more than men.

I just hope you solved the problem of your potatoes and that prevented them from having potato blight.

Kind regards to you

Alan

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Lol Alan, maybe it is partly a hormonal thing with women, or maybe it is just that the type of women who tend not to shave their armpits are often the more masculine or feminist types who seem less concerned about personal hygiene because they are on a mission to prove something to the world about being equal to men, who knows!

Potatoes had got the Blight, but as I caught it early and removed the diseased foliage and sprayed immediately, I managed to slow it down enough to get them to limp through another couple of weeks. Lifting them now and most of the tubers look very good. The show is next week, so fingers crossed I should do okay.

Regards

Cindy

cultural differences 3 years ago

My first experience of withnessing a female with underarm hair was in Italy, She was walking down the street or should I say she walked with the kind of strut that catches ones eye, she was obviously in love and as she reached her arms upward to embrace her man she looked into his soul as she wispered to him, as I noticed her beauty and the beauty of the moment I noticed her arm pit hair, when she put her arms down she had some of her arm hair exposed against her skin and fabric of her crisp blouse, till this day it is a turn on of a beautiful moment in life. one that is etched in my mind forever, and if you stop for the moment and noticed the scent of your woman or mate you will recognize and identify with fragrances that represent their day. I love connecting with my woman and deeply inhaling her fragrance of her day. the hair is just a bonus. highten your conciousness. what I have learn is things that turn us off just turn us off, no matter of the story or circumstance.

"Any man refusing a date with a girl because she displays hairy pits is immature and does not deserve a girlfriend"

Honestly, that's a pretty dumb statement. I know you (the author) said that you don't agree with all the statements and hopefully that is one of them.

Personally I hate armpit hair on a woman and am disgusted to see it. I like a little pubic hair, rather than the hairless look. But don't like too much hair.

It all comes down to personal preference. I was with a woman for 10 months that hated armpit hair on guys. I didn't see the problem with it, but I loved her and wanted her to be happy with my image, so I shaved it. She also didn't like leg hair, but I put that idea down real fast. I don't have thick hair anywhere, so she dealt with it. But honestly, if she had armpit hair, I wouldn't have gone out with her.

After a while in dating or a relationship, almost everything comes down to personality rather than looks. But looks still play a part. If I totally let myself go, I know my current gf would still love me, but I doubt she would have much physical attraction towards me. I love her so I want to be good and look good for her.

Again, it all comes down to personal preference and I don't think anyone with a fair amount of intelligence can make such a bold (and idiotic) statement as the one above.

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 3 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

I 100% agree with you on this (including about the idiotic statement that person made). This also sounds like you are a fair person because you were willing to shave off you own armpit hair for a girlfriend (I see your point about drawing the line at leg hair though lol).

Thanks for your comments :)

almorr 3 years ago

Hi Cindy, not been in contact with you for a few months now, I hope the show went well and your potatoes won a prize. If any female had asked me when I was younger to shave anything off my body, apart from face I would have politely told them to, well I don;t swear, 0ff. Of course nowa- days with so many ads on the TV for 'grooming for men' girl friends and wives may ask their men to do just that, and some of them do, that is the difference between the 1960's 70's etc and 2013

Hope everything in Guernsey is looking good for the Autumn

Guernsey has been rather wet and miserable going into the Autumn, although today is sunny and yesterday was quite sunny too. Are you far from there?

Hi Cindy, I am glad your 'Best Root Vegetable in Show' did so well. So happy to know that your parents enjoyed the cruise of the Islands around Britain and especially their day in Orkney. Orkney is not the most northely part of Scotland or the UK, Shetland is.

Yes, I have always lived in Scotland, I was born in Glasgow 67 years ago, but I know live in Cumbernauld, now that is halfway between Glasgow and Stirling, Stirling is very famous for its castle, a lot of tourists visit Stirling Castle, great view from the top of the castle rock, see for miles almost to Edinburgh, which also has a famous castle of course.

I used to have a friend many years ago who lived near Falkirk in Stirlingshire in Scotland, unfortunately I never got to go and visit her, but we were pen pals for some years as children.

I have never been to Scotland, but it is somewhere I want to go one day (the scenery appeals to me).

Regards to you too, and catch up soon.

Perhaps you should advise people on the results, as I doubt many people will go looking for them based on posts that are effectively shouting at them (all in capital letters).

Can't allow your comment as it lead to a porn site (I checked). Needless to say this just backs up what I said all along, most people who like armpit hair have a fetish for it. thanks for your help to prove this :)

Hi Cindy, just been reading all the posts from you and your followers for the last year, looking back I told you that my daughter gave birth last December to a baby girl Sophie, but I forgot to tell you that my daughter in law gave birth to her second daughter in May, her name is Olivia, so I now have 3 grand-daughters, perhaps one day I will have a grandson.

Congratulations Alan, you are so lucky. I will never have that experience as I can't have children of my own to get as far as grand children. I think they are very lucky to have someone like you as a Grandad, and you could say the ultimate furry bear for them to cuddle lol.

Catch up soon

Kind regards

Cindy

almorr 3 years ago

Hello Cindy, thank you for your reply, I am so sorry that you could not have children, however, as you have told me before you have a wonderful husband who I am sure loves you very much. Yes, my 5 year old grand-daughter commented about my in her own words "my manly hairy arms" another time she commented about something I myself had not really noticed, mainly my hairy ears, that's new to me, later on that day I looked closely at the mirror and sure enough, just like the rest of me, they are very hairy as well, LOL, never mind, that's just me getting older, although I am very fit indeed and enjoy long walks in the winter and as I have told you, I enjoy cycling a lot as well

Not too long until Xmas Ouch, I should not have mentioned that LOL

Regards

Alan

My goodness Cindy, no one has written anything for more than 2 months, considering that you usually get some letters at least 4 or 5 times a weak, I wonder why this has happened. Anyway, its almost Christmas, I have bought all the presents and the Xmas tree is now up and looking very nice as well. May I wish you and your husband a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2014

Hi Alan,

I think it is because Google periodically make changes to what displays where in the search engine results. They like to feature new/fresh content, and as this article is quite old now they have probably downgraded it. Not to worry, I am also writing on Bubblews.com now under the same name and already put a smaller similar article there about armpit hair on women :)

You sound like you are far more organised than me with regards to Christmas. I haven't sent a single card yet, only have two presents organised and we are moving house on Tuesday. Right now it is chaos here lol

Anyway if I don't hear from you before I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and that we can catch up again in 2014 (if not before).

Kind regards

Cindy

Alan 2 years ago

Hi Cindy, just registered and wrote a post regarding your moving house on that new "Bubblews.com" site. I am not sure if you can reply back to people like this one? Anyway moving house at any time is one of the high stresses of life mentioned of all stressful things, the other is a close love one dying. Its nice to get into a new home once things settle down. I just hope the removal goes smoothly

Alan

Hi Alan, That is great, I shall check it out. I can answer comments on my posts or on other peoples in much the same way as here, although to conform with the Bubblews rules any exchanges in the comments section need to remain on topic to the subject of the original post, so can't go on to other matters irrelevant to the post.

You are right about moving house being one of the most stressful things you can go through in life as well as bereavement (I think divorce is in there somewhere too). It isn't as bad for us because we are only moving across the car park so won't need to hire a removals company or pack things too carefully.

Anyway, better go now, loads to do, but will check out your comment/post on Bubblews.

Regards

Cindy

Hi Again Alan, what name did you register under as I have no way of finding you unless I know so I can connect to you? Alternatively you can connect to me and let me know it is you by commenting on my profile page.

Alan 2 years ago

I used my usual registered name "AlMorr" That's a short version of my full name which is ALan MORRison, Morrison being sort of Scottish, son of Morris I think. However, to be honest with you Cindy I prefer Hub Pages, I don't think I'll be using that Bubblews much at all. I'll not keep you back from your preparations from moving house. I have read your profile page and as you know, also your other Hub Page posts.

Hi Alan,

It does take a bit of getting used to at Bubblews, but the money is far easier to earn and it's more like a Social Networking site (like 'Facebook') as opposed to a serious writing site.

Every time I try to search for you on Bubblews under AlMorr I get a 504 Gateway error page. This is usually because the site is down or under maintenance for some reason. I am not having that problem searching for other users by name though. I am wondering if something went wrong with your site registration as you don't appear to exist right now. Perhaps you could check out if you do by going to your own profile page. Assuming you do and you connect with me and comment on my profile page I will easily be able to track you down in order to connect back.

Must get on now as still only half way through our packing for the move.

Catch up soon

Cindy

Bravo! Women should not deface epilation and shaving! Hairy female armpits are very sexy. In Bulgaria 90 years of the 20th century, women had no epiliriha and were very sexy! Epilation is filthy and disgusting Jewish-American, homosexual fiction!

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 2 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Not sure why the 'Bravo' Bulgar man as this article is not suggesting armpit hair is a good idea, merely asking for a consensus of opinion on the matter (personally I am totally against it as it looks revolting), equally not sure why you think that shaving has anything to do with 'Jewish-American or homosexual fiction' as even in Britain shaving is considered normal for a feminine woman (actually a large amount of homosexual women are the ones who don't shave, not the ones who do!).

Happy New Year Cindy, I hope you are now settled down in your new home. I had a good time, spent new year at my sons house. I am having a little problem with my computer, cannot get Google Chrome on it at all, only Internet Explorer, that goes so slow, my son says he will try and fix the problem as son as he can.

Happy New Year Alan. We are mostly settled into our new home now, although still some minor stuff to do. Strange that your computer won't let you get Google Chrome right now. Have you tried uninstalling it via 'Add/Remove Programs' and then downloading it again? You could also try downloading Firefox which is much better (and more secure) than Internet Explorer and nearly as good as Chrome.

Alan 2 years ago

Glad you are settling down in your new home Cindy. Yes I have tried uninstalling it via 'Add/Remove' but it refuses to 'Remove' My son thinks that a viros has got into that part of my computer, in fact he gave me this computer

He has a university degree, however, like yourself he is about to move house, as soon as he has the time he will try and get Google Chrome back

Hi Cindy, not much has happened on this Hub for over a month now, I notice you have written about 100 other posts on various other subjects when I pressed the "Mistyhorizon " 'about' icon'. I have read and replied to the one about cats, I will get round to reading the other hubs and reply to some of them. I hope you are coping with this ""wonderful"" weather of rain and gales we are having this winter, actually today Tuesday is nice and sunny, but for how long!!

Hi Alan, yes things have gone a bit quiet on this hub, but that is normally the case for most articles online as time goes on and newer stuff is uploaded by other people on the same subject.

I have a lot of articles published on here actually (close to 300) so you might take a while to get through all of them lol.

Weather here still horrible, wet and windy. The seas here have been amazing with flooding in various areas of our coast and roads strewn with boulders, rocks, stones and seaweed thrown up by the waves. Can't wait for things to improve as this is starting to really get me down now.

I hope all is well with you and your family.

Regards

Cindy

almorr 2 years ago

That's amazing Cindy that you have almost 300 articles published. I replied to the one about dogs and thunderstorms. As I live well inland in the centre of Central Scotland, this area has missed the worst of the storms that seemed to have hit the south of the UK

Yes, all is well with me and my family, my daughter told me she is expecting her second baby in July

Weather here much better thanks and land is drying out at last. Chickens laying well now and I have 30 more arriving at the end of this month, then 16 more at the beginning of May. This will bring me up to 60 chickens in total.

So the chickens become hens, that means you must have plenty of eggs, that sounds wonderful Cindy.

We don't see many of the eggs Alan as the local butchers buy them all of us and sell them on. It should be better when our 30 new ones arrive next week and we might actually get to eat some ourselves :)

Hi Cindy, I hope you are enjoying the nice warm spring weather now, here in Scotland its been a lovely day, just to tell you I got a brand new Laptop computer today so for the first time in about 3 months I can type this with 4 fingers and thumb instead of using 1 finger on my smartphone, the old computer could not be repaired. I am learning how to use my new Laptop, that will take time of course

Nice to hear from you Alan. Weather here definitely improving which is nice. Had a bad week last week when two Labrador dogs broke into our chicken pen and killed all but one of my chickens (we were only gone for an hour picking up 30 new chickens to add to our original ones). Anyway we have the police on the case and know who owns the dogs, it is just a matter of proving it categorically and hoping as the dogs have done this before the police take action and we get compensation. The whole incident has been really upsetting and the scene was really traumatic. Hoping we get justice for our lost hens that had become more like pets than simple livestock.

Good luck getting used to your new computer. I am sure it won't take you long.

Regards

Cindy

Almorr 2 years ago

So sorry to hear about the lose of your hens Cindy, I just hope the police find the owner and he is fined and the dogs are destroyed

Alan

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 2 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

To be honest Alan I don't want the dogs destroyed, I would rather they were rehomed with an owner who was responsible enough to keep them secured in their garden when they were not there. It is more the owners fault than the dogs. We do know who the owner is and where the dogs live so the police are following it up and hopefully he will do the right thing and pay up the relevant compensation and make sure his dogs don't continue to keep doing this to people's chickens like they have in the past. Whether the police charge him or not remains to be seen, but they agree that it is definitely the same dogs that have done this multiple times now. I guess it is their gun dog instincts having been distorted into making them killers, and now they have a taste for it and enjoy the thrill.

Regards

Cindy

Alan 2 years ago

Hi Cindy, I hope you got the dog situation sorted out and got or will get some compensation for the sad lose of your chickens. The weather is getting a bit better now. My new Notebook Laptop computer to give it its proper name is fantastic, they have given me some updates since I got it 3 weeks ago, I can now use Google again and use the old computer's mouse and keyboard, also I use a link from it through my 37" TV as well as the Laptop's 11.5" screen, that makes it even better.

Keep well

Alan

Might be another few weeks before we even find out if the owner of the dogs is taken to court by the police. He is still refusing to pay up compensation for our killed chickens. Waiting on news constantly right now (very stressful).

Glad your new notebook is going so well :)

almorr 2 years ago

Hi Cindy, not much happening now, just to tell you my daughter gave birth to a boy on Saturday 26 July, this is my first grandson. The lovely weather ended on Saturday, during that period I did not see any lady with hair under her arms.

Has the owner of those dogs been taken to court regarding the chickens?

Regards

Congratulations Alan. We are in the Uk on a brief visit right now (Dorset) picking up my cat that I owned over. 9 years ago in Tenerife. She flies into Gatwick tomorrow where we will collect her from, then bring her back to Guernsey on Wednesday. As for the chickens, well we are in the process of threatening to take the guy to court privately. He then got his lawyer to contact us directly asking for copies of any paperwork we intended to use in court (which I have sent him). Now need to wait to see if he will settle out of court, but if not we will take him to the small claims court privately safe in the knowledge that win or lose he will have spent well over £500 on lawyers fees anyway (even though we won't have as the small claims court only costs about £30). If nothing else we will have hit him where it hurts, I.e. In the pocket.

almorr 2 years ago

Hi Cindy, I am so happy that Scotland is still part of the UK, I know Guernsey has a lot of independence as well, but I think it still is part of the UK!! It was a very tense time in the early hours of Friday morning, I was so relieved that the no vote won, if it had been yes, according to some economists Scotland could have become another Greece in a few years time.

Hope you have sorted the chicken situation out with the small claims court

Regards

Alan in Scotland UK

mistyhorizon2003 profile image

mistyhorizon2003 2 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands) Author

Hi Alan, I am glad Scotland is still a part of the UK too. Technically Guernsey is not a part of the UK as we are self governing. We are a part of Britain though (it is complicated).

Chicken thing finally sorted. I threatened the dogs owner with a private civil court case, and after liaising with his lawyer he finally made me an out of court offer of a settlement figure, but without admitting his dogs were responsible for killing my chickens. I didn't get the full amount I was after, but got about half. This at least saved me the stress of going to court anyway, and his lawyers bills must have cost him three or four hundred pounds on top of what he paid me. I now have closure, but also the consolation of knowing this whole incident cost him a lot of money so he did get punished effectively.

Hope to catch up again soon

Regards

Cindy

Hi Cindy, been a bit quite here now for some time, anyway just to wish you and your husband a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2015. My daughter now has two children Sophie will be 2 on 20th December, she now has a son Ewan who is 5 months on Boxing Day. At New Year I will once again be going to stay with my son and his Chinese wife, they now have 2 girls, Emily who is 6 and Olivia who is 15 months.

Once again Have a great Christmas

My fiance is the cleanest human being on the planet, the hottest, the sweeties, the sexiest and I asked her to let her arm pit hair grow out just for me to see what it would be like and OMG....all of a sudden, something came over me that I have never experienced in my entire life! Her natural scent drove me into a frenzy of PASSION that I could not believe (nor could she) I think she appreciated the final outCUM b/c she has not shaved under there in 2 months = HAPPY SOLE MATE!

Hi Cindy Alan here in a sunny Scotland, not much has happened on this website this year, seems a bit strange after all the activity last year. Hi Cindy, Alan from Scotland where the weather is beautiful after last weeks gales and rain. I hope you and your husband are both keeping well. I know you said in a recent post that you don't like men with a beard, well I am sorry to tell you that I have not shaved for exactly 12 weeks today (11th June) my last shave was on 20th March, HOWEVER I do remember you saying that the reason you did not like a man with a beard was that food got into the beard and that was dirty, I have made sure that does NOT happen to me. In my case I trim around my mouth, I do NOT have a moustach as that caused problems at only 3 weeks growth

My family and neighbours like my new look. I have made sure that none of the criticisms that you mentioned don't apply to me

Good luck with the beard, I am sure you will take great care of it.

Hi Cindy, Happy New Year for 2016. Alan here from Scotland, seems ages since anyone posted anything on this post, not seen any ladies with hairy arm pits for YEARS, yes, I don't know if I should be happy or sad, I know you dislike them but I think a little hair under some ladies arms are a little sexy but not like the photo above where that lady has as much hair as I have under her arms

The weather has been awful but I have not been flooded out or anything like that.

I grew a beard from March 2015 but shaved it off when it got too thick at about 4 months when some people thought I was getting far too hairy on my face and starting to look like Santa Claus, however its coming back again as my last shave was on Christmas Day before I went for Christmas dinner at my daughter's house, I'll see if I can go longer than 4 months this time.

Kind regards to you and your husband

Happy New Year to you too Alan, lovely to hear from you as always.

All is good here and I am still playing pool regularly and am due to go to France in Feb for the European Championships as a member of our island ladies B team. Also doing a new part time job for a couple of hours a day as of yesterday so a lot to learn right now. I am going to scale down the amount of chickens I keep to give me more free time and to make life easier for my long suffering Husband who normally gets the job of seeing to them when it is dark or raining.

Life is busy but fun!

Hope to catch up again soon.

Hi Alan,

Yes comments are quiet on here now, but it is an old article and to be expected that things would quieten down.

All good here and am pleased to hear all is well with you too. Working part time now for a lovely company as a Recrutiment Coordinator (posh name for a receptionist/administrator really). Still have some chickens too, but have scaled back to about a dozen of them. Also still growing vegetables but have scaled that back too due to having less free time. Overall things are going well.

Lovely to hear from you and hope you will continue to stay in touch.
