An Easy to Follow Pattern

If you are looking for a stylish, updated poncho to wear, look no farther. I have found the most beautiful and user-friendly pattern. Making this poncho was enjoyable as I slowly saw the beautiful pattern emerge. Before choosing this pattern, I did a search on google for free poncho crochet patterns. After reading through several of them, I selected this one. It stood out among the others for several reasons. The style appears more modern than most, it does not have the usual fringe, but a more elegant-looking scalloped edge, and a must for me is that the pattern directions were easy to follow.

Incredible Yarn

I purchased this yarn at a Benjamin Franklin Craft Store. It is "James C. Brett Marble Chunky" brand, and it is machine washable. The color is "landscape". As you can see, it comes in a variety of colorful blends. It comes in a large round-shaped ball and cost-wise is more expensive than other brands. I love the mixture of colors in these skeins. The craft store where I purchased this yarn has closed, and the only places I've seen it are online, charging a few dollars more than what I paid.

It took almost two skeins to complete the poncho, and probably about 6 hours. It may take you much less time, as I'm probably considered slow compared to most. I'm a multi-tasker, so I am usually watching television or talking on the telephone while I'm crocheting - that probably doesn't help.

Results

After making this poncho, I was very pleased with the results. Its is soft and thick enough to keep me warm when it is chilly. It looks great over all kinds of shirts and colors. It's versatile enough to wear with casual or dressy clothes. I personally like to wear it most with dark blue jeans when I go shopping or out with friends. The colors are rich and earthy, and even though it costs about $25 to make, it looks far more expensive than that.

After wearing it to work, one of my friends and co-workers insisted on having one as well - she loved it. So, I did make her one and only charged her $20 more than the cost of the yarn. After getting it and wearing it, she too made positive comments about its wearability and comfort.

Purchasing Yarn Online

While many stores do sell yarn, if you are doing a large project or a using a high-dollar yarn, it will probably be worth your while to order from an online store such as Herrschners. They offer bundles of quality yarn at very good prices when compared to store prices. There is a Hobby Lobby nearby that has an incredible variety of yarn, however there prices are super-high and they never have sales on yarn. I often look at their yarn and then search for it on Herrschners, where it will be much cheaper. If you do visit the site to look for yarn, be sure to look at the Bargain Corner, and under Knit and Crochet, click on yarn. Look through those prices and you will be happily surprised.

Your welcome. I wanted to add pics of my finished poncho but I have it packed away for the winter and can't put my finger on it! I will add pics when I find it - as the colors are so pretty.

I found this pattern on one of those free tear-off slips in front of the yarn at a local store. I have also been unable to find it online. I know I still have it somewhere - will start my search today - will post here and add to article ASAP.

Several people have been asking for the poncho pattern. It is a free pattern, available in the stores. I don't think I can legally copy it and post it. I believe you can retrieve it at www.lionbrand.com after joining their community using your email and assigning a password. It appears to be free.

I have just found this post today and really love the poncho. I read all the comments and went to Lion Brand (I am already a member of their community) This looks like the BOHO PONCHO Pattern L50053. It looks the same, but of course, is in a different colour scheme. Thanks for your post.

Please can you tell me what stitch you used, I used 3 double crochet in each space. It looks like you have used less. I love the yarn you have used and the way the colour changes. Thank you for sharing it.

Kezzagold, the stitch is a double-crochet. The yarn is a thick and fluffy one so it may appear to be a more involved stitch. Thanks for your comment!

You can find this pattern at stores that stock yarn. It will be one of those FREE patterns you can take displayed near the yarn - I have seen it repeatedly. Because of copyright issues, I am not able to post it here.
