Bejeweled Bookmarks and other Artazia Delights

Background: Art Deco.

Not to be confused with its forerunner, 'Art Nouveau', 'Art Deco' is a term which refers to certain art forms of the 1920s and 30s. Its style was colourful, geometric.

Though thoroughly modern and sophisticated, it often drew on earlier avant-garde ideas - indeed it was even influenced by ancient art.

It covered designs in art, architecture, transport, fashion, etc, etc.
The term comes from the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.

Quote from the website of the Victoria & Albert Museum:
"The arts of Africa and East Asia provided rich sources ... . Archaeological discoveries fuelled a romantic fascination with early Egypt and Mesoamerica."

Beauties of Artazia

I have just discovered 'Artazia' ~ and I found it quite captivating!.

Such pretty pieces! Intricate works of art! Really delightful! And refreshingly different!

First, I discovered the bookmarks ~ and then a plethora of delights.

They would make very attractive gifts ~ and welcome ones, I am sure!

Some Artazia items are hypoallergenic.

Artists are especially chosen for their talents, which particularly complement Artazia.

One of the artists, who produces this unusual and stylish jewelry, is Ayala Bar, a gifted Israeli Jewelry artist, influenced, in her work, by Art Deco, Byzantine and Victorian styles.

The Artazia Collection also features beautiful items of 'Judaica'.

Check out the 'Total Satisfaction Pledge and easy return and refund policy' mentioned on Amazon.

This is from one of the Amazon 'Product descriptions':

"Each piece is truly like a miniature artwork, the intricate design is hand painted and set within a very light stainless steel frame. Austrian crystals, beads and a variety of other materials are delicately assembled and set in artists resin resulting in a beautifully finished and durable piece."

Artazia is proud to announce that they produce and sell 'works that transcend fashion trends and whose appeal is not tarnished by time or geography'.

The stainless steel used in magical Artazia jewelry, is laser-cut and resists tarnish. The innovative, hand-painted, unusual designs may include crystals, beads, Swarovski crystal, other glass, chains, etc, forming a delightfully intricate collage, within its steel frame. Layers of artists resin, over this assemblage, result in a strong, but light, glossy contemporary work of art.

Let's see what is on offer, via Amazon!

Trish_M: Congratulations on reaching 100! (hubs, that is!) :-)

I can definitely see the Byzantine influence on many of the pieces. As a quilter, I love the 'Cat and Crazy Quilt', and crazy quilt is one of my favorite patterns---lovely, lovely pin!

The trees of life---the one in the middle that's balanced and the one on the right which has a beautiful chaos---call to mind William Butler Yeats' "The Two Trees" whereby the beautifully chaotic tree represents a heart beset by bitterness and the balanced tree represents the tree of love. (There was very little in life and death that was not covered by my dear Mr. Yeats!)

Thank you for this lovely, lovely hub, Trish. Your range in writing is inspirational.

Voted up + useful + awesome + beautiful + interesting

Kind regards, Stessily

Hello Stessily :)

Thank you for your lovely comments :)

I saw these items and just thought that they were so pretty and unusual! They inspired me to write :)

I'll have to read Yeats's tree poem. It sounds good. I have read a few of his works, but not many, I will admit.

Thanks again!

Trish_M: I "got" the inspiration in this hub 'cuz the words sparkled with an easy flow like the jewelled items! :-) Your images are so clear that I almost feel as though I might be able to touch them!

Canada's Loreena McKennitt set "Two Trees" to music; it's available on YouTube. It's one of my favorite WBY's poems, and those two Artazia trees of life express the poem well, to my mind.

Thanks again for a lovely, bright hub!

Kind regards, Stessily

Hi again :)

I cannot take credit for these lovely images, I'm afraid ~ they are from Amazon.

I realise that I hadn't noted them all, so I have corrected that now.

I'll look for that on YouTube :)

Trish_M: Wow! Amazon faked me out by taking photos that have your level of quality! :-) I'm so used to relishing the great images which illustrate your hubs and which are taken by you that I did not pay attention to the attributions.

Here's the link to the YouTube video which I prefer (by CelticMusings) of Loreena McKennitt's rendition of "The Two Trees": http://youtu.be/qsYINRjr9dw.

There's another that's kind of interesting ("Legolas Greenleaf The Two Trees" by katharwen at http://youtu.be/BXlL_L1--Ug) 'cuz the images are of Legolas (Orlando Bloom) from Peter Jackson's ring films and the music flows with those images.

Kind regards, Stessily

Hi :)

I'm listening to Loreena McKennitt now ~ and I like it very much!

I use my own photos when I can, but I often find suitable images in 'Creative Commons' ~ usually via Wikipedia Commons. I try to remember to credit them all accordingly :)

Trish_M: I'm so pleased to hear that you located William Butler Yeats' "The Two Trees" as well as Loreena McKennitt's composition/recording and that you like them!

I feel that Loreena McKennitt really captured the spirit of the poem!

I cannot count the number of times that WBY's words --- mainly about the demons' bitter glass :-} --- come to my mind and usually bring me to my senses 'cuz I don't want those "unkind eyes"!

Kind regards, Stessily

P.S. Being notified as your follower of this added comment gave me another excuse to read this hub again, and it is just as interesting, etc., on a second read!
