What could be the most precious day in your life other than your wedding day? When you plan for your marriage, you will have hundreds of things running around your mind. Main thing would be choosing a best dress for you.

Marriage is union of two people, union of two families. People spend lots of money in wedding ceremonies. They spend the most in their dresses. Brides always wear rich colors and exclusive fabrics. They believe this will show up their social status.

Mostly in western countries women wear white for their wedding. But other countries it is different. Every social group has their own custom and color for bridal dresses. But even in western countries they wore any color before the Victorian era. Later they tend to think white resembles virginity (they assumed). So white became as the main color of bridal dresses.

Let’s not get deep into the history. We will see here, the basic types of wedding dresses and which will suite your requirement as well as your body shape.

A-Line/Princess

A-line gowns resemble the letter “A”. This is typically has a tapered top, sloped waist and flared skirt. The dress flows fluidly from the bust to the hem with an unbroken line. You can get this dress with many different fabric choices, depending on the look you want.

If you wish to have a simple look, free flowing silks like charmeuse is the best option because they hang naturally and create a soft feminine shape. If you like to have a more structured shape, use organza. You can keep it simple with white else add a ribbon or bow for a stylish look.

For whom – Brides who are heavier in the hips and waist. It will give a slim look too.

Note : Wear a supportive padded bra if you have a small bust.

Sheaths/Column

Not all brides feel like they want the traditional big fluffy white wedding dress. For brides who want to wear something different, Sheath dresses would be the best choice. They are generally very closely fitted dresses with hems that traditionally end just above the knee. It can be a good look for brides who are going for a more non traditional or even sexy bridal look.

Sheaths are usually made of very simple materials. This may come with straps. Heavier fabrics that can maintain shape, like damask or peau de soie silk, will give the dress a defined contour that will withstand movement.

For whom – Best choice for brides who are tall and slim. It will be a good choice for a bride who wishes to show off her long, slender legs or slim hips.
