Castle tattoos can portray the castle alone, depict different elements of the castle, or designed with other symbols.

Castle History

The castle has been around for many centuries. Early castles were first built around the 5th century B.C. Although much smaller then castles built later, these early castles still served the same purpose. Many early castles were built with wood and didn't stand a chance against large armies such as the Romans. As time progressed, more castles were built with stone.

Stone and mud walls began being built around 1500 B.C., as well as towers. These key elements were also included in the construction of castles in later centuries. Castles were made up of many different features. Around the 5th century B.C., castles began to pop up all over England. It wasn't until medieval Europe that we saw massive castles being built all over Europe around the 9th century. One of the earliest known stone castles was built in Doué-la-Fontaine, France, around the middle of the 9th century.

Stone castles offered much more protection then wooden castles. Although they cost more to be built, the security from the castle was worth it. The large stone walls and towers protected the inside of the castle and "earthworks" protected the outside. Castles were placed on higher grounds, given the castle the advantage point. Ditches and hills protected the outside of the castle, making it harder for the enemy to converge on the castle.

Castles remained in England and all over Europe for many centuries, all the way up to the mid 1850s. They protected the men, women, and children that were confined in their walls. Castles were a symbol of power, royalty, and strength. At one time, castles covered all of Europe and England. Today, they are a symbol of our past and heritage.

Flames, tribal art, Celtic art, swords, shields, daggers, and other associated symbols may be included.

Oh, wow, I don't know why I am always surprised at the different kinds of tattoos. I would never have thought of a castle, but they look amazing.

My dad was in the Army and so my mom went over to Germany when she was pregnant and she would tell me about looking out of the hospital window when my brother was born and seeing up on a hill, a beautiful castle. Seems magical to me : )

Up and more and sharing (well, I already shared earlier, as I saw this, but was unable to comment at the time)

God bless, Faith Reaper

What an interesting idea for a tattoo. I had never thought about a castle. While difficult to choose, I believe the last pic was my favorite one. The lack of color for me represented a more realistic looking castle, and I liked how the sentiment was wrapped in there, too. Per usual V+++ and Shares.

To a most talented hubber,

Kim

@Radhikasree, LOL, castle tattoos are truly a unique tattoo design. I love the detail in them, certainly a symbol of power and strength. Thanks again

@Faith, thanks for sharing your story, truly magical for sure! I love castles, always wanted to see one, if I ever get the chance to get to England. Castle tattoo designs are beautiful, plenty of options to put in your castle tattoo. Thanks my dear.

@Frank, I always think of you when I do certain tattoos, but I wasn't sure about the castle tattoo. Glad you liked them, we'll get you one some day:)

@Kim, castle tattoos are unique. I like that castle tattoo design also. You make a good point. Black and gray shade vs. colored castle tattoos. I prefer a colored castle tattoo but with dark shades. That is a good choice though. Detail certainly matters both ways. Thanks again

@Sueswan, thanks for everything! You don't hear about castle tattoos a lot, but they are beautiful when done right. Great choice, I love that quote. Appreciate you and best wishes.

@Nell, LOL. I imagine that you have seen castles in England Nell, yeah? I always wanted to see one. Castle tattoos are not common, but some of the tattoos above are beautiful. Thanks for your support Nell, take care.

@WiccanSage, thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm so sorry to hear about your condition, truly am. If you're into tattoos, such as I am, you probably appreciate the art. Think about some of your favorite tattoos and hang them in your room as art, may make you feel a little better. Certainly sending my prayers, God Bless.

I found this extremely intriguing when I saw the title. Years ago, I had a fax cover sheet of a castle that was down a winding road. I had it designed by a friend with the stipulation that it be viewed through a keyhole on a wooden door. As intended, it was both mysterious and striking. Thanks for the memories.

@Prasetio, thanks for the comment. There's a handful of great castle tattoos, both men and women. It's tough, personally, I want one that is very detailed, catches all the aspects that make castles unique.

@Chitrangada, these castles do. I love that you view tattoos as art because they are. The only difference, skin and paper. Thanks for everything.

@Aviannovice, ohh, that sounds cool! I appreciate you taking the time to comment, I know your not big on tattoos, so I thank you.

@Teaches, thanks for the comment. Castle tattoos have that aura, especially one with great detail. I guess you could go with a crown tattoo, but castle tattoo designs are an eye catcher.
