The most common cause of acne at any age is a poor diet. By poor diet, I mean you are eating WAY to much sugar, starch, processed foods & not enough fresh foods. If you find it hard to give up junk foods, you are likely addicted to them. Instead of cutting all the junk at once, which can actually be bad for you - Try adding in more vegetables & fruits. Start with something simple like eating an apple a day & one serving of raw veggies a day. The easiest way to introduce more vegetables into your diet is replacing one meal with a healthy salad filled with greens! Give it a try, you should notice your skin becoming clearer in one month.
This essentially goes hand in hand with poor dieting, like a chain reaction! Hormones are responsible for a lot of what your body does so when they are out of whack, so is your body. Reduce all foods containing soy, sugar, hydrogenated oils (canola especially!), and add it some hormone helpful foods like raw honey, coconut oil & wheat germ!
YES! MITES! Researchers are now finding out that these little mites can cause all kinds of bacteria to form on your face from their poo! They are actually a common cause of rosacea! To get rid of them is a matter of correcting your diet & keeping your hair & skin clean. They feed on parabens as well, so reduce or completely eliminate them out of your life! They are no good for your body anyway! Remember up to 60% of what you put on your skin goes directly into your blood stream.
Allergies (food, air, pet, ect.)
Many people over look this, and yes, even doctors over look this, as a common cause of acne. If you have even a mild food allergic you are unaware of, this can surely cause it. Some people are actually allergic to caffeine & don't even know it!
I throw this word around a lot & not many people are aware of what they are. Parabens are synthetic, lab created preservatives. They are designed to extend shelf life of beauty & hygiene products. They are not only linked to causing minor things like acne, aging & hair growth - BUT are also now being linked to hormone imbalances, tissue disease and yes, even cancers!
Vitamin D deficiency
If you are fond of using sunscreen, chances are you have a vitamin D deficiency; not to mention a butt load of parabens in your system. What sunscreen does is blocks 94% to 97% of your bodies ability to produce vitamin D from natural sun light which in turn leads to all kinds of problems! It is the biggest epidemic overlooked by the whole country! Varying on age & location, up to 90% of people are deficient. Vitamin D plays a HUGE role in keeping hormones in check, organs functioning properly, tissue & muscle repair, and more. When your body doesn't have enough vitamin D in it, your skin doesn't either which gives bacteria room to grow leading to all sorts of skin issues.

Do yourself & your body a favor and get to bed before midnight EVERY NIGHT & sleep 8+ hours a day! Teenagers especially need good sleep! You want to fight off acne? Get 10-13 hours of sleep every day. Yeah, that sounds like a lot, but your body needs it as you are growing into adulthood! Don't pay the price for staying up late & sleeping less. No party is worth it.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
ACV has been around for centuries curing things on the outside of the body as well as internally! To use for an acne treatment, simply put some on a cotton ball and dab all over face 2 to 4 times a day. Keep in mind, this is vinegar & it does stink!
Organic Raw Honey
This is one of my faves! Raw honey is known for fighting off bacteria. It has been used as a medicine for centuries upon centuries! The beauty of raw honey is it is preserved with so many minerals & vitamins that normal, "transparent", processed honey is stripped of. It taste great too! To use as an acne treatment, simply put a thin layer all over your face & let it sit for 20 minutes to an hour. When you are ready to rinse it off, ONLY use warm water. Don't use soaps or creams during or after washing. Wait at least 4 hours to apply any cream or make-up to your face. Its best to do this at night!
Organic Raw Honey + Cinnamon
Want to make your raw honey more potent? Add in some cinnamon powder! A mixture of one tablespoon of raw honey to one teaspoon of cinnamon powder is said to make a noticeable difference in the worst types of acne. If you don't want to mix it yourself, you can buy it pre-infused for under $6. For acne treatment, take raw honey and place one tbsp in a glass jar. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, remove from flame and gently place jar with raw honey in it into the water, being sure not to touch the bottom. In a matter of 20 seconds, it should be runny. Take it out of the water and mix in one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix before it cools. Once mixed well, apply to face & follow the same directions as the Raw honey above!
Organic Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is well known for treating sunburn & insect bites but did you know it is AMAZING for acne & even reversing acne scarring!? The best kind to put on your face or take internally is straight from the plant. If you have an Aloe Vera plant in your home, put it to good use! If you do not have one, nor know where to fins one, the next best thing is organic aloe vera gel or juice. To use as an acne treatment, take plant leaf & break it off. Split it in half and rub both open sides all over face. Let it dry and apply make-up or cream as usual. If using gel or juice, same thing applies. Let it dry & don't rinse it off!
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a common house old term for people living near the wilderness! It is not only known to treat scraps, bug bites & skin rashes, but even treat and heal acne as well! It is a natural astringent & antibacterial oil. It can be found in a lot of natural & organic acne face washes, scrubs & creams. You can buy it mixed in a paraben free formula (wash/cream/ect.) or simply use the concentrated essential oil. To use just the oil as an acne treatment ALWAYS place it in a carrier oil. Tea tree oil can be too strong for sensitive skin & actually make your acne worse by inflaming the skin. I personally like using extra virgin olive oil - Use a small glass jar an put 3 tablespoons of olive oil (or other vegetable based oil) into the jar. Add in 12 drops of tea tree oil. Place lid on jar and swish it around a bit, then let it sit for a few hours before using. When you use it on your face, a little goes a long way. Do not rinse it off.
What the heck is sulfur you might say... ? Well, it is a natural mineral found in me, you , animals, plants & pretty much everything natural on the earth! In powder form it is commonly known as MSM (Methyl-sulfonyl-methane). The more grass fed animal products, organic veggies & organic fruit you eat, the more sulfur you will have in your system. Sulfur is made from the clouds sucking up ocean water & spitting out rain on everything! I am sure there is a better way to explain that but you can google that later. So what does sulfur have to do with acne? It is hated by internal & external bacteria & viruses! You know, the bad ones! It is commonly used to treat candida over growth in the intestines thus, clearing up skin issues! You don't have to use it internally if you don't want to - You can use MSM cream or lotion instead! It will be absorbed into your bloodstream & will begin doing the dirty work. To use as an ace treatment, this is a no brainier - Apply it to your face! Wait 30 minutes before applying make-up.
Chances are, whatever you slap on your face already has this in it, including your make-up! Why? Skin loves Zinc! The best way to use Zinc to treat acne is taking it internal & externally. Find a paraben free cleanser & cream that contains Zinc in one of the first 5 ingredients & take a low dose, whole food supplement daily. You can do it the natural way by increasing your green veggies, eating walnuts & skipping out on sugar rich junk which actually depletes the body of Zinc.
This one sounds weird but it is known to clear up acne & even rosacea! I am not kidding! The ingredients found in common anti-dandruff shampoo are known bacteria, mite & small insect killers. If you think you have mites living on your scalp or skin, wash with it! I always recommend using paraben free formulas but Head & Shoulders is known to clear up the toughest acne. Do NOT use it more then 7 days in a row on your face & only stick to gentle formulas of H&S if you plan on using it. For a paraben free, natural alternative, use Pure & Basic's tea tree & rosemary formula. To use as an acne or rosacea treatment, simply put it all over your face, let it sit for a few minutes & rinse it off. If you use H&S try a small area first to make sure it doesn't irritate your skin & never use it more then 7 days in a row! Do not use other stronger anti-dandruff shampoos like Selsun Blue. They are too strong to place on your facial skin.
