Corioliss C1 Titanium Plated Hair Straightener Review

Updated on September 22, 2020

Ok, let me get this straight (pun intended)

I am a big hair straightener junkie! I have almost owned all of the highly suggested and reviewed hair straighteners including the overhyped GHD. Some people can never have enough shoes, bags, clothes. For me, my eyes light up whenever I see a hair straightener that promises to easily straighten out and style my kinky hair in just 1-2 passes. Of course not all have lived up to its claims.

This obsession with hair straighteners stems from the belief that perfectly styled hair can change anyone’s look and up the glam quotient even if you don’t concentrate on anything else – your dress, makeup (hello, sunglasses!) or accessories. Whereas a bad hairstyle has that power to ruin your entire look no matter which expensive brand you sport. By using a good straightener, you can create that perfect hair style with oodles of volume that lasts throughout the day.

I was on the lookout for a new hair straightener as the previous one was proving to be quite ineffective. I had a Babyliss Pro 230 Radiance. It is a pretty good ionic straightener if you do not have frizzy hair. But for someone with frizzy, wavy to curly hair like mine, the straightener didn’t do much. The frizz returned as soon as I stepped out into the humidity. All that time spent on prepping your hair up with anti-frizz products and then straightening your hair with your iron completely gone to waste within an hour.

I have had several ceramic hair straighteners in the past (Philips, GHD, Babyliss, Braun; Babyliss being the best out of these 4) and it was a similar story with all of them. I tried several hair products. Still, the same story.

My hair appeared straight for days when I straightened it at a salon and they only used heat protectant. So I realized the problem was not with my hair or with the humidity. I just needed the right tool.

I decided the next time I visited a salon, I would pay close heed to the tools they were using.

What my salon was using was a high-end straightener named the 'Bio-Ionic One-Pass Straightening Iron'. I just noted the name, came back home and researched. Even if these straighteners had nano-ceramic plates I decided to explore more options. That’s when I came to know about titanium plated straighteners and how effective they are in taming frizz. Getting a bio-ionic one-pass straightener was super tempting but it did not meet my budget. If I had the money, this is something I would go for hands down. It lives up to its name - all it takes is a single pass to get your hair straight (I kid you not). More on this later.

There were also rave reviews for another titanium plated straightener called ‘BabyLiss Pro Nano Titanium’. But this was not available in my country and it needed to be exported.

I searched for other titanium plated straighteners and came across the affordable 'Corioliss C1 titanium plated straightener'. I couldn’t find much reviews on it online but I decided to give it a go anyway. I was not left disappointed!

Product features include: temperature settings from 140 to 450 degrees F. Titanium plates give off negative ions which along with infra red technology helps in taming frizz better. The 1" wide plate is suitable for all hair types. Absolutely no snagging at all as compared to my ceramic straighteners.

Experience

I just spritzed some heat protectant all over my hair and straightened it section by section as usual with my newly purchased Corioliss C1. You can easily straighten your roots as well. The straightener takes just seconds to heat up and because it has titanium plates, the heat is distributed evenly i.e. no hot spots which is usually the case with ceramic straighteners. So far so good, my hair looked sleek, shiny and straight. It is not pin straight but that’s not what I am aiming for anyway. Anything which tames my frizz, straightens hair considerably without flattening it out (as I already have thin hair) and makes the style last all day long is what I am looking for.

I stepped out into the humidity (my place in India is humid throughout the year), did some shopping and all that while I didn’t feel my hair frizzing up. When I returned home, I was ecstatic to see my hair is as straight and frizz free as I initially straightened it.

This straightened effect lasted till I washed my hair.

Before I bought this straightener, I was almost fed up with my hair and was thinking of permanently straightening it again. I did not want to head off to a parlour every time I wanted to style my hair. Moreover I was not completely happy about permanent straightening because I had been doing this for 4 years straight and wanted a break. I wanted that option of stepping out of my house in my kinky curls now and then. For this reason I am really happy I came across Corioliss C1. It saved me from another session of permanent straightening at the right time.

It has almost been 4-5 months now since I have started using this tool and so far I do not have any complaints. If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative to the high-end titanium straighteners, which is effective, then the Corioliss C1 is definitely the straightener you should go for.

What helped me in making this decision

As mentioned before, I couldn’t find much reviews online for Corioliss C1 titanium plated straighteners online. There were not-so-good reviews on the ceramic plated version. I wasn’t keen on buying that. I found some videos online which helped me in making my choice. Check out these videos:

If I had the money, I would go for..

  • Bio Ionic One Pass

I have visited the salon several times to temporarily straighten my hair and each time I have been left very impressed by the performance of the Bio Ionic One Pass. My hair was sleek and straight (more straight and sleek than how it appeared when I used Corioliss C1) in just a single pass. My hair retained its bounce and volume. Your hair stays straight till you wash your hair.

Apparently the fastest iron out there. At the salon, it did straighten my hair in just a single pass. I also came across reviews online of customers claiming the same and sharing videos of how this straightener was able to do magic in just one pass. I was really impressed with its performance. It comes in two versions - 1" and 1.5". Contains silicone strips which is what makes it more effective. Gives a very straight look (without the need of blow drying it first).

If it was available in my country, I would go for..

  • Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium

This one is a widely reviewed titanium straightener and more affordable than Bio Ionic One Pass. I didn't purchase it because I had to export it from the USA. Moreover, I wasn't sure if it would perform to its maximum here in India. Have to mention, I was really impressed with the rave reviews it got from customers. This one like the Bio Ionic One Pass requires only one single pass of the straightener.

A lot of reviews are available for this straightener online and most of them are positive. If it was available in my country, I would have gone for this because it is not as expensive as Bio Ionic. Very thin and lightweight makes it very comfortable to handle. Titanium plates are able to emit negative ions and it also has far infrared technology like the Corioliss C1.

Tips

  • Always spray heat protectant on your hair before using a hot hair tool especially a titanium straightener. These straighteners can get way more hot than your regular hair straightener so protecting your hair is a must. Coat each strand with heat protectant when your hair is completely dry and then iron it out. I use the Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray.

  • To acquire a pin straight look I would recommend blow drying your hair first and then using this straightener. I have an Elchim blow dryer.

Elchim is a great blow dryer. I saw it being used by a lot of beauty bloggers and as luck would have it, I was able to purchase it from a local supplier. It doesn't completely make my hair straight or cut down its frizz totally (you might want to try out an ionic blow dryer instead to combat frizz) but I am happy that it works much better than my previous blow dryers. I am able to achieve the pin straight look using my Corioliss once I blow dry my hair with Elchim using a round brush.

  • To get a straight and sleek style with more volume, use rollers. I use the Remington Hot Rollers.

Gives my hair decent volume and what I liked most is that the set comes with its own set of color coded clips. All you have to do is plug it in and wait for few minutes to start using the rollers. The rollers are velvet textured and it is recommended you do not use any hair spray on them. They come in 2 different sizes: medium and jumbo. Use the jumbo sized rollers (4 nos) to create good volume on the crown and the medium sized rollers (8 nos) on rest of your hair.
