DKNY Perfume

Updated on August 21, 2009

DKNY is a fashion house started by the designer Donna Karan in the mid 1980s. DKNY stands for Donna Karan New York and New York City is the inspiration behind her fashion designs and fragrances. In her words, her designs balance comfort with luxury just like the city that she loves. All of the DKNY perfumes are variations on the same theme, apple. DKNY Be Delicious perfume was the first fragrance created in 2004 and the DKNY perfume line that has followed is one big tribute to the Big Apple. Even the packaging is a tribute because each bottle of DKNY apple perfume is shaped like an apple. You can see the shape of the bottle in the advertisement below. If you like ladies perfumes with a fruity flavor, then DKNY perfume is a good place for you to look.

DKNY Be Delicious

The first DKNY perfume for women was Be Delicious, which is a fragrance appropriate for daytime wear.  The top notes are green with hints of violet leaf, apple, grapefruit, and magnolia.  The heart of the fragrance is made up of tuberose, lily of the valley, rose, and violet.  The scent finishes with hints of sandalwood, amber and musk.  A DKNY perfume review says that the fruit smells overbear the floral ones and the fragrance is an enjoyable one for most women.  You can purchase Be Delicious for anywhere from $38 to $51 dollar per ounce depending on where you shop.  There is also a DKNY Be Delicious for men.  This scent is not drastically different from the women’s version except that it is more woody and has hints of coffee smells in it.  You can buy the men’s fragrance for around $30 to $40 an ounce.

DKNY Be Delicious Shine

Of all the variations on the original DKNY fragrance, Shine is probably the closest.  The tops notes of Be Delicious Shine are American apple, cucumber, and grapefruit, just like the first DKNY perfume.  The middle layer has other familiar scents like magnolia, tuberose, violet, lily of the valley, and rose.  The only notable difference is in the base where there is no musk but rather a combination of sandalwood, white woods, and white amber.  Debuting in 2007, Be Delicious Shine sells for $27 to $30 an ounce in stores and online.  The packaging and coloring of DKNY Shine is almost indistinguishable from Be Delicious.

DKNY Be Delicious Picnic in the Park

DKNY Picnic in the Park is the fruitiest of all of the DKNY perfumes.  The scents in this perfume include green apples and pomarosa apples.  Pomarosa apples are also known as Malay apples.  Other fruit hints include orange, grapefruit, and juniper berries.  The base has a woody smell combining apple wood and quinine.  Quinine comes from the bark of a cinchona tree.  The perfume is still green in color like Be Delicious, but it comes in a more traditionally shaped bottle.

DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom

The DKNY perfume Fresh Blossom is one of the scents from the Be Delicious line that strays a little from the apple theme. However, it still has a fruity beginning and floral heart, just like the other DKNY fragrances. The top notes include sparkling grapefruit, cassis, and apricots and the heart of the fragrance is sheer muguet, rose, and jasmine. Another popular scent with citrus top notes is Happy perfume by Clinique.  You can buy DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom for around $30 to $40 an ounce. The packaging is similar, but the perfume is light pink rather than green in color.

DKNY Be Delicious Night

The only scent in the DKNY fragrance line that is meant for evening wear is the DKNY perfume Delicious Night. The bottle alone, attests to its sexy, nighttime vibe. Instead of the traditional silver top, the top half of the bottle is black and the perfume is a dark purple color instead of green or pink. There is also not hint of apple in this fragrance. The notes included include a chilled blackberry martini, crushed ginger, frozen pomelo, satin jasmine, night-blooming orchids, purple freesia, purple iris, incense, molten amber, patchouli, myrrh extract, and velvet vetiver. This scent can be purchased for anywhere from $27 to $40 an ounce.

I have not tried all of the fragrances I discussed above but I found a lot of my information from websites that review and sell perfume. In addition to the DKNY material, I found lots of other information useful there such as a Cartier perfume review, a review of the new Versace perfume, and a Moschino perfume review. At these review websites you can also buy discontinued perfumes and purchase discount Vera Wang perfume and Creed perfume samples. If you are looking for information on a specific perfume or a place to buy any kind of fragrance then you should look at these online retailers.
