Dressing Well for the Business Woman

Keep it Classic

The best dressed women in the workplace are not wearing the latest trends in business wear. An asymmetrical suit might look hot now, but it's a bad investment and leaves such an impact on your coworkers that they will notice when you wear it again, and again, and again. A woman's suit should be tailored and classic. Don't be afraid to splurge on the suit, you will be able to wear it for quite some time.

I suggest muted tones, gray or black, never bright colors. Once again, it stands out when you are forced to rewear. You would be amazed how much accessories and shirt color can change a suit. Always wear stockings. It's just too casual not to. I prefer the darker stockings, a sheer black seems to work the best.

If you buy classic shoe styles you can still have amazing shoes. Certain styles become outdated very quickly, choose carefully and you can have great shoes that everyone will admire.

Make sure your shirts are crisp and unwrinkled. A white shirt with a black suit looks incredibly fresh and sophisticated.

I know this style sounds somewhat boring. That's what accessories are for. You can be trendy with your accessories. A current handbag, great watch, fantastic earrings will allow you to have fun with current styles while keeping your basic look timeless. No one likes to look back at pictures and explain in an embarrassed voice, it was the style at the time....

While I'm recommending a timeless, classic look, I'm not recommending that people just grab some ill fitting non descript suit off the clearance rack. Buy something nice and have it tailored to fit you perfectly. When you see that amazing suit in a classic style, with the pricetag that makes you cringe, just remember that it will likely last a decade instead of a season.
