ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment Review
Is Kate Somerville Exfolikate Worth the Price Tag?
In my Kate Somerville ExfoliKate review, we are going to take a good look at this product, how it works, how to use it, who it’s suitable for – and above all, whether it’s worth the price tag, we believe it is - and we are going to tell you why!
I think that ExfoliKate® is a really clever name for this intensive exfoliating treatment from Kate Somerville.
This is her best seller and from the many reviews from happy customers that I have read online, I can’t say that I’m surprised!
How does ExfoliKate® Work?
Most of us are used to applying exfoliating products to slough off those dead skin cells and brighten a dull complexion. Most of these products contain grains or beads that physically remove the dead skin debris. ExfoliKate® also includes Microbeads which gently do this job without risk of scratching the skin surface with rough grains that can cause even more problems for those with sensitive or acne prone skins by causing irritation or allowing entry to bacteria.
That’s where the similarity with many exfoliating products on the market ends, because ExfoliKate® also works enzymatically, in a similar way to a skin peel, to gently and effectively dissolve the dull, lack-lustre top level of the skin, revealing a brighter, clearer layer beneath.
Natural Fruit Enzymes To Dissolve Dead Skin Debris
You don’t have to worry though! This enzymatic action doesn’t rely on harsh chemicals as the product uses natural fruit enzymes from Papaya, Pumpkin and Pineapple to give your skin a smooth and healthy glow.
Useful For Acne-Prone Skin
Users agree that it is effective at removing the dead skin debris that could otherwise block pores and create a medium for acne bacteria to feed on, thus causing blemishes to develop. So for acne sufferers, it is a great way to help prevent future breakouts. It is also effective on blackheads and helps to even out skin tone and discoloration. Just one application is all that is needed to see visible results.
Salicylic Acid To Balance
In addition to the microbeads and fruit enzymes, this exfoliator also contains salicylic acid which helps to balance the hydration of your skin. Users report that is does not over-dry their skin, even with combination skin-types with some dry areas to begin with.
Rosewood and Cinnamon for Anti-Aging
I love the natural Rosewood and Cinnamon extract additions to the formulation because as I have mature skin, I am also looking for a product that will help reduce the aging effects of wrinkles and fine lines.
Soothing and Healing Ingredients
For those with acne-prone skin, or existing blemishes the healing and soothing effects of Vitamin E, Honey and Aloe Vera are a wonderful reassurance and an effective combination.
Clinical Trial Results
In the clinical trials quoted on the Kate Somerville website, they used an expert grader to evaluate the results on 20 women. There was a 75% reduction in the roughness and dullness of skin and 88% said that not only had the texture of their skin improved, but it was smoother too.

What Benefits Will You Notice?
After use, you will notice that moisturizer and other treatment products are better absorbed into the skin and makeup glides on more smoothly.
If you can time your weekly or twice-weekly application of ExfoliKate® to coincide with taking a shower, the advice is that the steam actually makes the enzymes work more effectively so you should see even better results.
How To Use Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment
Kate recommends you use this exfoliating treatment once or twice a week. It does not really matter what time of day you use it, provided that you always apply it to thoroughly cleansed skin.
Wet your face and then apply a thin layer to your skin, all over your face (avoiding the eye area). As shown in the video, the product is a green color, so you might like to make sure you are not going to be disturbed for this part!
Once applied, you should massage your skin using light, circular movements for around thirty seconds; you will notice a slightly grainy texture, but it does not feel abrasive. It tingles while it’s working and gives your skin a warming sensation.
The advice is to leave on for up to two minutes before rinsing off with warm water and patting skin dry with a soft towel. If your skin is sensitive or you feel more of a stinging than a tingling sensation, it would be best to apply for a shorter time.
- One lady who published her review online, reported that her Aesthetician suggested she start off using the product for only thirty seconds on her sensitive skin and gradually build up.
- Another tip for sensitive skins is to place a pea sized amount in the palm of your hand and mix with a little water before applying.
This lady used both these tips and experienced no problems. However, the enzymatic and physical exfoliating action does increase blood circulation in the skin which can cause some redness or flushing for a short time after use (estimated times vary but you should expect around twenty minutes), so maybe best not to use it for the first time right before going out – just in case!
This Allure Best of Beauty Award Winning product could be the perfect solution for you if you want great results from a product with natural ingredients, but your skin is very sensitive.
Is Your Skin Really Sensitive?
If your skin is really sensitive, there is an alternative product called ExfoliKate® Gentle which you might like to try instead - this product won an Allure Best Of Beauty Award in 2010!

Exfolikate Reviews Online
Reviews I have read seem to be pretty much in agreement that although the product initially seems a little pricey, it's well worth it because:-
- A little goes a long way, so it lasts a good while
- It leaves skin feeling silky smooth, fresh and glowing
- It is a great way to maintain your complexion between salon facials
- The tip about using it in the shower because of the way steam helps to activate it seems to be widely reported as effective.
- The product helps to make pores look smaller
- It is popular with both men and women
The only downsides reported seemed to be:-
- Initially the product can have a burning sensation. Reviewers agree though that unless you have very sensitive skin, if you persevere, you will notice that this sensation diminishes with regular use and the exfoliating effect gets better.
- The price. Obviously for some people, the price tag is going to be a sticking point but for those who love the product the advice is almost universal - it's well worth it!

Is ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment Worth The Price Tag?
On balance, yes! This extremely effective dual action treatment offers salon quality results. The price tag may seem high, but a little of the product goes a long way so you will find the per treatment cost pretty good over the life of the product.
So Many Great Reviews
With so many great reviews and accolades, including the QVC customer choice award 2012, and the Beauty Choice, new product Beauty Award, it gives a lot of confidence before parting with your hard-earned cash!
If you have a busy life and don’t have time for salon treatments – or are like me and can’t afford to treat yourself to these very often, Kate Somerville Exfolikate could be the single most effective weapon in your beauty arsenal and a real treat to use too!
