Five Fabulous Beauty Finds

You Won't Regret Buying These Beauty Basics

Buying health and beauty products can be tricky. You may use a product for a long time, but not be completely satisfied. Product confidence means that either you have used it before and you know it's good, or you have a personal recommendation to go on.

A sales pitch is not equivalent to results. This is why I have compiled this short list of health and beauty basics, so that you can buy these products without regretting it the next day!

Fabulous Foundation/Concealer: PanStik by Max Factor

This is the most underrated stick foundation/concealer on the market. It actually does what you want makeup to do--cover. It covers freckles, dark circles, sun spots and scars. It goes where so many other foundations fear to go--medium heavy coverage, and what's wrong with that? Truth be told, we wear makeup to cover our flaws--we want our faces to look more even, with less marks and imperfections. That is job #1 for foundation, and this product delivers every time!

I have personally used Nude Ivory for over ten years. I discovered PanStik after a whim purchase, and it is simply the best foundation I have ever used. When I was in my 20s, I used it to even out my skin tone and dim my freckles. Now that I am nearing my 40s, I use it to cover dark circles and a few sun spots. If you have never used PanStik, get ready to be wowed! It creates a smooth, even canvas like you've never known with other foundations.

PanStik has its critics. Some believe it is too heavy, being that the second ingredient listed is mineral oil. As a woman who has combination skin, I can honestly say that I haven't had any fewer blemishes using other foundations from any of the major drugstore brands than I have while using PanStik. It is said that mineral oil blocks pores, encouraging acne. A number of times, minor acne is the really just the result of not washing your makeup off at the end of the day and touching your face too much. Any makeup that is slept in will encourage blemishes. People who are acne prone tend to have sensitive skin, and they may have to try a lot of different products before they find something that works. As long as I wash my face before bed every night, I don't have a problem.

Is there more to PanStik's main ingredient than controversy? Here are the much less talked-about positives. Mineral oil is an occlusive, meaning that it seals in moisture. That is a good thing! Facial skin is thin and it needs moisture. Dehydrated skin looks wrinkled long before is should.I can tell you that my skin is more nourished and younger-looking when I wear PanStik. It has a dewy finish that doesn't leave you crinkled. That is more than I can say for any of the mineral makeups I have tried. It's really very simple. Moisture=anti-aging. This makeup is fabulous!

Fabulous Body Lotion: Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion is simply the best. It is an excellent, long-lasting moisturizer that puts all of the rest to shame. Apply this lotion right after your shower, and I guarantee that later that day, you will be shocked at how soft your skin is. And that soft, smooth feeling lasts until your next shower, when you will still feel it on your skin as you are lathering up again.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion delivers a beautiful, healthy sheen that improves the look of any part of the body. I cannot overstate this--your legs will glisten, your arms will look more toned, as the light bounces off you. This lotion has the power to airbrush the body with a glow that is more than a camouflage. Over time, cocoa butter can smooth scars, stretch marks and minor skin imperfections, so it's making you beautiful while it truly improves your skin.

Palmer's also contains vitamin E, an important antioxidant. You are probably hearing a lot about antioxidants these days, and with good reason. UV exposure creates free radicals, molecules with only one electron (two electrons are present in normal molecules). These single-electron molecules steal an electron from healthy human cells, resulting in cell damage. The good news? Antioxidants bind themselves to these free radicals so that they do not harm other cells. In effect, antioxidants diffuse this dangerous situation on the skin that can lead to cancer.

Another thing I really love about this lotion is that it will not sting any sensitive skin areas or small wounds/cuts. In fact, the opposite is true. Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion will soothe your skin and act as a balm to promote healing.

Fabulous Hairspray: Suave Professionals Extreme Hold Unscented Hairspray-Aerosol

Suave Extreme Hold Hairspray is a wonderful bargain hairspray that really works. It does what it is supposed to do, and there are many hairsprays, both aerosols and pumps, that do not.

My #1 requirement: hold with grip that lasts. So many hairsprays miss this mark, even though it is their primary purpose. Not this one! This hairspray will keep your hair where you want it to be, period.

Now it's time to separate the men from the boys--this hairspray is not sticky or wet. That eliminates pretty much all of the pumps and most of the aerosols. Shake the can and the spray is a fine (not super-fine) mist. Douse your hair and it will not get sticky.

Last but not least, it is unscented. That makes it less likely to trigger a sneezing attack and more likely to allow your scented body lotion or perfume to sparkle with no competition.

Fabulous Nail Polish: Finger Paints Nail Color

If you are a Sally Beauty Supply shopper, you will recognize this name. Finger Paints nail color is sold exclusively at Sally's. This polish is an excellent reason to stop by while you're out on your errands, or, order it over the Internet--you won't have to worry about returning it, because you are going to love it!

Finger Paints nail polish is a great bargain, because it performs like the more expensive brands (OPI), but you can often buy one and get one free with Sally coupons you can print off their website. (Click on "Exclusive Coupons" to view the monthly coupons available).

I have used several brights and dark colors, and they have great staying power. A nail polish must last and resist chipping to be considered worthwhile. Polishing your nails is too tedious to have your hard work ruined in 2 days. Even dark colors, which will chip sooner than lighter ones, hold up pretty well when you use this polish. This polish really has some grip, which is good for me, because I will often be too lazy to apply base or top coats! And it still wears well!

Finger Paints also has a salon-inspired color palette that is more complex than drugstore choices, with beautiful seasonal hues. I should mention that to those who enjoy OPI's whimsical color names, you won't be disappointed with Finger Paints--the one I used last week for my pedicure is called "If It Ain't Baroque, Don't Fix It," which is similar to OPI's beloved "Lincoln Park After Dark." Try this color!

The best part? This nail polish has a glassy shine so intense, you will find yourself looking at you nails because they catch the light! This nail color has that wet look so many women love, so go ahead and buy a bottle or two!

Fabulous Body Wash: Johnson & Johnson's Shea and Cocoa Butter Baby Wash

What do you want a body wash to do? Johnson&Johnson's Shea and Cocoa Butter Baby Wash can do it all, leaving you feeling clean and soft, without irritation. This liquid soap isn't overly foamy, which I like, but it does get the job done. You can also wash your face with this, and it won't squeak when you're done!

As you can probably guess from the name, this body wash is deeply moisturizing--I mean deeply. After you wash with this, your skin will shine in the shower! It isn't really slippery in the tub like oil is, but it produces similar results while cleansing at the same time.

Another thing to love about this (baby) body wash? It has a unique scent that will grow on you until you're an addict (or at least an aficionado!) This fragrance defies description, and you may find it a little odd at first, but give it time and you'll soon be a convert!

This body wash is fabulous!

I love to shop with a specific recommendation in mind. I like to see what my opinion is compared to others, and I feel more confident that the items will work out. All of these suggestions can be found at bargain prices in local grocery, drugstore or discount stores. You could also order the hairspray, lotion, nail polish or body wash through the website links below. You'll want to buy the PanStik from Walmart, Ulta, or CVS (or any other store that allows returns of opened/used merchandise), so that you can be sure to get the correct color.

Enjoy your new goodies!
