How To Eliminate and Get Rid of a Double Chin, Homemade Remedies, Wrap and Exercises for Chin and Jaw

The appearance of a double chin may be attributed to a couple of different factors such as excess weight, aging, slack facial muscles or may simply just be a hereditary factor. In many cases you can reduce or eliminate a double chin by doing simple facial exercises, reducing calories or using easy over the counter remedies such as chin wraps or resistant exercisers.

Here are some easy and effective ways to help you get rid of a double chin.

Change of Diet

If excess weight seems to be the cause of your double chin, a change of diet can be one of  your most effective remedies. Your chin can store up fat like any other part of your body so a reduction in calories can work wonders in eliminating that fat. Try changing your diet to include more high fiber foods as well as add more fruits and vegetables. Combined with some facial exercises (listed below) you will see a change fairly quickly.

Watch Your Posture

Posture plays an important role in the appearance of a double chin. Be sure to keep your shoulders back and your head up straight with jaw jutted slightly forward. This can make an amazing difference in reducing the look of a double chin.

Try a Lower Jaw Exercise

While this exercise might have you looking like a marionette, it can be quite effective. Pull your lower lip over your bottom teeth using your lips and jaw muscles. Open you mouth as wide as possible and jut your jaw out - then open and close your mouth 10 times.  You will feel your jaw and neck muscles being worked immediately. Try to remember to do a set of 10 of these at least 4 or 5 times a day (probably better to do it alone - otherwise people will be looking at you a little strangely.).

Tap your Chin Away

Using the back of your hand, gently but firmly tap the skin under your neck while keeping your mouth closed.  This exercise helps to tighten the muscles from the outside. Like the exercise above, do a set of 10 reps at least 4 or 5 times a day.

Double Chin Exercise - Resistance Exercise

Place you palm on your forehead and try to push your head forward against your hand using your neck and jaw muscles. Hold in position for about 3 seconds. Keep your hand in a firm resisting position so you can feel your neck and jaw doing all of the work. Then place your hand on the back of your head and try to push your head back against your hand. Repeat 5 times in front and back at least 4 or 5 times a day. You should feel the muscles in your jaw and neck being effected immediately.

Double Chin Exercise - Chair Exercise

This is another great exercise you can use to help you get rid of a double chin. Sit on a chair (preferable one without arms) and keep your feet on the floor. Grab each side of the chair with your hands and tilt your head back as far as you can comfortably and look at the ceiling.

Now open and close your mouth about 10 times. Again, you should feel the proper muscles being worked almost immediately.  Another exercise that is effective when used 4 or 5 times a day.

Buy or Make Your Own Chin Wrap

These kind of wraps are great when you want to show immediate improvement to your chin area. One solution you can use is mineral oil. Simply apply mineral oils under your chin using a cotton ball and wrap with plastic wrap (under chin and going over top of head) then cover with a warm towel for about 30 minutes. Or you can dip an ace bandage into the mineral oils, wrap in a similar fashion and cover that with a warm towel for about 30 minutes.
